i believe when letting the jib out if you go around the left side of the manual winch you can run over to the electric winch and use that. i think it will clear the helm. basically you use the manual winch like a block to get to the electric winch.
I like you guys a lot! You do things at a relaxed pace and you give instructions in an easy way to understand. All things depending, a catamaran could, very possibly, be my "Mid-life crisis car"!
Hi Douglas, we are glad this video helped a little 😊 that is awesome that you are going out there we cant wait to be in the BVI next year too. thanks for watching
Great job. Information like that helps folks understand what it takes to sail a boat. Stay safe. Until our adventures cross, fair winds and full sails ⛵
Generally the first sail I raise is the mizzen this brings the bow into the wind, then I raise the main sail and then I reach back and pull the mizzen 90 degrees to the wind and that will back me up and put the wind to port or starboard and then I let go of the mizzen and if I need to I will unfurl the foresail.
Here is a tip I learned from some sailor racers. You do not need to turn the boat into the wind necessarily as long as you fix the boom so the sail is into the wind. That way, you can keep moving, especially is a precarious situation. I've been sailing for almost 30-years and did not see this. Go figure !!
I'm definitely feeling appreciated for the sailing class in your catamaran, it was very informative and easy going, makes me daydreaming (about my own adventure wish) would it be nicer if, your ability could give us more sailing classes and the use of the "navigation system"installed in the control panel of your boat, as well as more of the pulleys ,and names!. I'm exited to follow your channel, don't you ever change!!!
I already know someone is going to critique this video. I've been telling you guys for awhile that Andrea needs to start "manning" the helm and sheets so you guys can start the longer passages soon (circumnavigate 😉). Hopefully the first mate is doing it much more as you are heading north out of cyclone season. Great job Andrea! And I know Alejo will teach you well in all the practical applications you both learned in the classes. He is a competent sailor and he is much more confident after going to and through the Caribbean. Maybe by the time you guys head back down this Autumn you can decide to do the canal and into the Pacific Southwest 👍. Much love ❤️🤙
HI Curt, yea Andrea has gotten more experience but I don't think we are ready to cross into the pacific lol but maybe like you said after next season we'll know. Thanks for watching!
by the way, the word you are looking for @ 5:12 is "LAZY JACKS", they hold up the side covers of the boom cover, and guide the sail down when lowering (so it doesn't obstruct the deck or get overboard!!).
Wow great video !! Thanks for the free training class !! Well done Andrea ,is nice to see that you are learning a lot with the help of the great Captain Alejo on your side . Please be safe !!!! Thanks
Just found your channel today. This is great. We begun this new year our 5 year goal to own our catamaran and go cruising with our dog. You guys are already living our dream. Reading my first few lean to sail books now. Love your tuition episodes and the real world feeling of your videos and of course we love that your dogs are enjoying the life with you. Thanks. Keep up the great work. Maybe someday we will anchor our boats next to each other👍👍
Electricians don't wind their cords around their arm like that. Only DIY noobs do that. We wind it exactly like you're winding your line. Except we put a little twist with each loop to relax the tension, or the extension cord will want to naturally twist like a figure 8.
Absolutely LOVED it. So, you did this video in Exumas, am I right? I'll be chartering in June and this video helped us to picture the surroundings (navigation) and wind there. Any further advise about Exumas, will be Greatly appreciated 👍!!! Love all your videos!!!
People always have to criticize but i think this is great we are lake sailors and would love to be doing what you do! But how do you just leave everything and go do this? Also, where do the dogs go to the bathroom at? We have cats and just wondering we love your dogs!
Definitely Shannon! They shed a lot. Ozzy sheds all year round and Echo twice a year.. Thank you for watching and we hope to see you in today's livestream video at 2pm (est) :)
How much difference is there between monohull and multi-hull sailing? Have some experience on Lido 14s, Shield 30's, and a '78 Catalina 27; know enough to be dangerous so, I've much more to learn obviously once I were to return to the coast from deepest inlandia.
Good on you both, showing others what you have learned already. Experience is a wonderful thing that a computer or book finds hard to compete with. All the best from across the water far away, Steve.
Electricians and tradesmen don’t roll up cable or rope using their elbow either. Homeowners do that. It’s a bad practice because it puts more kinks in line and creates memory. FYI
I think they are currently in areas with cell phone service and they use hot spots. If they ever do an ocean-crossing they will need satellite internet (ViaSat?)
Careful with using the engine with not enough load on them, especially if they are diesel. Not enough load will wet stack the engine and cause more wear and tear. Wet stacking is the formation of carbon due to unburned fuel.
Congratulations on exceeding 20,000 subscribers. Very relaxing video. The Lagoon 420 is a fairly slow boat, what do you think of its speed depending on the winds?
Thank you Jacques!! You've been supporting us for quiet some time now and we really want to thank you and let you know that it means a lot to us 😊 Regarding the speed of the boat, that's a great question! And we will be answering it for you in today's livestream video at 2pm (est), we hope to see you there! 😀
I have a new generic catamaran and/or trimaran hull design which i've call the ARC hull design. It is new/novel and therefore patentable. The hull is asymmetric. Though, for description purposes, it could be described as a variant of a conventional symmetric and a conventional asymmetric hull shape. Since, its shape is symmetrical above the waterline and asymmetrical below the waterline, the result of extending existing lines of a conventional symmetric hull at and below the waterline. This catamaran and/or trimaran hullshape is suitable for a range of craft from SAILING to small and medium POWER craft. SAILING: The hull's benefits for a sailing catamaran or trimaran are; *speed *pointing ability - VMG *no necessity for of dagger or centreboard *simple, flat panel design lines, ease of manufacture. POWER CRAFT: Benefits of an symmetrical hull shape without the negative characteristics such as; *speed of asymmetric shape *more balanced reaction to waves - less broaching *banks in turns To anyone with interest, designer or those wanting to make their own ply/epoxy boat. Cheers
First time watching, and subscribed... How hard is it travelling with dogs? Do you have restrictions getting into the countries. Also; would love a video on your electronics and maps etc! The autopilot system was interesting... be nice for more in-depth
Andrea, that was a good demonstration of "setting sails." As you have said in other videos, some sailor language would be great. Happy to help you both with that if you desire. :) :) :)
🎉Thank you Tsar!! We're very exited to have come such a long way. You've been supporting us for a few months now and we really hope to see you in today's livestream at 2pm (est) 😀

Great job. Information like that helps folks understand what it takes to sail a boat. Stay safe. Until our adventures cross, fair winds and full sails ⛵
I can now see why newer boats have their lines go directly into stowage bins under the deck.
About time, there's two people on the boat and everybody needs to know how to sail it in case of an accident !

GR8 work guys. Keep em coming :-)
Thanks! Will do!
thanks a lot!
Just an FYI, I was taught to just open the clutch and let the main go down as fast as it can. That way there is not so much sail to pull into the bag.
Hi Mark, yes you can do that but sometimes the sail will not land perfectly in the bag . Thanks for watching
Thanks for the sailing knowledge Andrea !! Great to see you “ sailing “ lol

Where do the dogs on board go to the bathroom?
They have their own little turff in the bow of the boat
you need to trim battens, no wrinkles ,same tension, big belly with waves only. more wind more flat sail
