Rosey Bourke Parakeet Singing/"Talking"

  • Kipp thinks he can talk but he really just whistles the words he's trying to say. Some phrases he "says" in this clip are:
    - Pretty boy/Pretty bird
    - Kipp/Kipp Kipp
    - Hi birdy
    He also wolf whistles and whistles for the dog. I'm working on getting him used to the camera still so hopefully I can get some better clips up soon. :)

    I've just gotten my first Bourkes from a good friend of mine. She was no longer wanting to breed and so my friend sold her to me for $150. She's absolutely beautiful and her singing is absolutely gorgeous. I've fallen in love with Bourkes

    I think every Bourke has his/her own repertoire of sounds, my two Bourkies sound completely different from each other and so does every Bourke I find on UA-cam. That's interesting because you can find similar singing patterns when listening to budgies, but it's more difficult to find similar patterns when comparing two Bourkes. My male Bourke Ichigo picked up the whistling of the breeder from whom I got him and goes crazy when I whistle it^^

    • @ACCpenguin

      Sand Katze I totally agree! They all have the trademark Bourke chirp, but it's like the males all come up with their own signature sounds. Kipp imitates phrases of mine in a whistled form, and also tries to sing like the wild songbirds and my lizard's crickets. They're all so different - one of the many reasons I love them!

    • @Itri_Vega
      @Itri_Vega 7 років тому

      The best thing is when they teach their signature sound to their female. Yuna rarely does it, but she definitely picked up Ichigo's whistle. It's so cute.

    Adorable and I pray they don't become 'mainstream' popular so they are not factory farmed like budgies, tiels etc. Most won't want them anyway as they are small and not impressive like a too or macaw. Lets keep them a secret!

      Bourkes have become quite popular in pet shops where I'm from (Sydney, Australia) A few years back they were very rare and now almost every pet shop that sells birds has them! I really hope that each and every one of them goes to a lovely home with a nice cage and good owners.

    hi I want to get a new bird and I was taking a look at some bourkes and I have a question, do they make an earpiercing noice or is it more like a cute little tweet? you can't really hear it from a video lol

    • @ACCpenguin
      @ACCpenguin  7 років тому +15

      Gami154 Good question! They are actually the ONLY bird I would describe as "quiet." I can barely hear my little guy from the other room. They make a very quiet, cute cheeping sound. I live in am apartment and have never had any complaints about him either. :)

    • @gami1547
      @gami1547 7 років тому +6

      oh great :D i'm sorry if its annoying but I have one more question haha are they more like birds to look at or are they good as a companion bird? if not I can still get a budgie so its not really a problem yet :)

    • @ACCpenguin
      @ACCpenguin  7 років тому +11

      Gami154 They are great companion birds! They are actually much more docile and easy to keep tame than a budgie is. Kipp follows me around the house and even has a harness so he can go with me when I go hiking. I would try to find someone who hand raises them, although even parent raised ones can be worked with. They are so docile that even the breeder pairs at my work will often step up onto people, which is very unusual in birds. They really are the perfect birds. 😁

      I know I am late to this comment, but I have a hand raised Rubino Bourke and she really is very quiet. She makes peeping sounds mostly. She can be a little louder, but she doesn't get actually what anyone in the bird sphere would call "loud". She rides about on my shoulder, hangs out with me while I am working, anything. She just likes being with me. If you are looking for a quiet, laid back companion, Bourke's are it. They aren't super exciting, but I love taking her in her backpack carrier when we go places, or I bring her out in her "camp" cage when I am working or playing outside so she can enjoy the great outdoors as well. She is very mild and well behaved. When I was waiting in a car dealership for my oil to be changed, she sat on my shoulder almost the entire time. Didn't try to fly off, and did not make a nuisance of herself. Just quietly sat there and was my company. A lady saw her and didn't know if she was real at first! She will also "up" to anyone, though I am her preferred person.

      Always and forever suggesting pigeons as pets! They are smart and friendly, social and quiet. They can’t bite like parrots do, and their food is easy and very affordable. We have bourkes, pigeons, and doves (housed separately). They are all lovely though the doves voices carry a bit - the boy is very amorous of his wife. ✨

    • @wretched8195
      @wretched8195 3 роки тому +2

      Out of all the parrot species I've had in my care, bourkes are by far the quietest and most well behaved. They don't scream, don't bite, aren't overly messy and the only noises they make are little beeping and chirping sounds, their wings make a whistling and fluttering sound when they fly! No way are these birds loud and obnoxious like many other parrots.

    Can they be kept in the same room with budgies, in different cages, but free most of the time? I've been keeping budgies for about 10-11 years now and I want to get another species that doesn't pose a threat to them, that isn't threatened by budgies, and that's also going to make great apartment pets (with low volume). Would Bourkes be alright? I let the cages of my budgies always open, so they can go in and out as they please. I plan on keeping the other birds (possibly Bourkes?) the same way. Also, if they can live together, how long should I wait before I introduce the two species to each other?

      I have budgies and bourkes in the same room but in different cages. Budgies are noisy and a bit hyperactive while bourkea are very mellow, quiet and calm. They don't get along together in cages, even when my budgies and bourkes are outside the cage together in the room, the budgies can be a little mean sometimes so it's best to keep them seperate.

      Bourkes are very smart, probably smarter than a budgie, just because they are quiet does not mean that they can’t learn tricks, mine recognizes peoples faces, voices, words, and simple hand gestures, I taught my bourke to be quiet, when I put up a finger and shush, that tells my bourke to be quiet, when I come into my room my bourke recognizes my face and voice, these birds understand tone and commands, my bourke recognizes the word “no” and associates the word “no” with bad things, my bourke recognizes her name, they do have a relatively small brain, but they are pretty smart for a parakeet. You need to know your facts.
