    If you've followed all these steps and you're still not able to connect to your console via Remote Play away from home, check with your home's Internet Service Provider to see if they use something called CGNAT. It's a way of sharing IP addresses across multiple customers but it does make things like Remote Play almost impossible to configure. If your ISP does use CGNAT, they should be able to offer you a static public IP address for a small additional cost per month. It's well worth it and should sort your connection problem (you'll still probably need port forwarding configured).
    Thanks for all the feedback on this video by the way, it's been greatly appreciated 😎

    After being stuck unable to connect outside of being on my home network, doing hours of research, your video has solved it!
    I had the port forwarding set up from previous research, but was vexed when it randomly stopped working. Your video is the only place I’ve found that detailed the need for a static IP on the PS5. As soon as I heard that, I figured that would be the solution. And sure enough, I made that change, removed all the port forwarding of set up, re-set it with the static IP and the ports you mentioned, restarted network, and BAM!
    The only additional step I had to take is that, when using my phone as a hotspot, I had to find a VPN provider that would allow me to change from NAT type 3 to NAT type 2. With that in place, both cellular data and external networks work perfectly. I should add that my PS5 is hardwired into my router.
    Cheers from Canada!

However, once the PS5 is connected via LAN, the UDR will show the port disconnected when the PS5 goes into rest mode.

    I just want to add one more helpful tip for people that can't connect their PS5 via ethernet cable. If you're getting stuttering issues over local remote play and have a dual-band router, try connecting your PS5 on 2.4ghz and your remote play device on the 5ghz band as the channel can get congested when running both on the same band. This has solved stuttering issues for me on two different wifi networks when remote playing locally from the PS5. Of course, if you can do it, it's always better to connect the PS5 directly to the router via ethernet.

    • @TheGameFatherUK
      @TheGameFatherUK  10 місяців тому +2

      Nice tip! Appreciated my friend!

    • @giacintorenta7579

      Great guide - thank you. I will set it up tomorrow as I often connect remotely from somewhere. Are there any suggestions the “client” front? Like if I use a PS4 to remote play on a PS5 located somewhere else or whether on Portal to use 2.4ghz or 5ghz WiFi.

    • @RazielAU
      @RazielAU 9 місяців тому

      @@giacintorenta7579 The idea is just to run the client and PS5 on separate bands if you’re streaming on the same network. I personally run my PS5 on 2.4ghz so I can then run all my clients on 5ghz, but you can do the reverse if you'd prefer.
      The thinking behind this is related to how wifi traditionally worked, only one device can communicate over a channel at a time, so if it's running on the same band, your PS5 sends data to your router while the client waits, then the PS5 has to wait while the data is forwarded to the client, so there's a lot of interruption in the communication. If you're running on two separate bands then there's no interruption, the PS5 can keep streaming on one band while the client receives data on the other. Now I thought that MIMO was supposed to fix this by allowing multiple devices to communicate simultaneously on the same channel, but I've since upgraded all of my devices to WIFI 6, and while there was some improvement, I still had occasional stuttering issues when running both on the same band. So perhaps MIMO helps, but isn't as effective as I thought it would be. Long story short, running on separate bands completely avoids the issue, and at least for me has given me a rock solid connection when doing in-house streaming, and this has been the case both on my old AC network, and my upgraded WIFI 6 network.
      When playing remotely from a different network it shouldn’t matter. But if you can, connect your PS5 via ethernet cable, that’s still the best option, it's just impractical with my setup at home since my PS5 isn't anywhere near my router. I personally haven't found this necessary, but another thing that will probably help if you do get stuttering is to manually check how many networks are using each channel in your neighbourhood and making sure your router is set up to use the least congested channel, but this is getting a bit more advanced, so not really something I can cover in a UA-cam comment.

      Thanks! If you're having issues even at home (on the same network as the console) then no amount of port forwarding is going to help I'm afraid. You'd be better off looking at things like congestion on the network, what frequency you're using (2.4Ghz vs 5Ghz) and ping response times (done through the router if possible).

      I can't say I've had any issues with hotspot on any of the Android devices I've tested. There are a lot of variables with remote play because there are network considerations at both ends of the connection, multiple device configs and 2 sets of providers.
      You have to start narrowing those down to identify where the root cause of the issue is. Things like: Does remote play work away from home at a friend's house on their WiFi? Does it work on a different SIM/Provider? Does it work with your SIM in a different phone?

      Phone hotspots can be a bit hit and miss and largely seems dependant on who the provider is and what plan you're on. I've seen plenty of people on T-Mobile and EE complain that no matter what they do, they can't get it to connect. I've seen a couple of iPhone users install a custom APN and have some success too.
      There isn't a great deal you can do with mobile hotspots in general. If you can connect from any external source at all, at least you know your router at home is setup correctly. After that, it's going to be a bit of a pain with trying different things like different providers etc

    Very informative video, thank you!
    I found this while troubleshooting stuttering / input delay issues on my PS Portal. I have an ISP provided BT router, my internet speeds are far beyond what should be required for remote play (150mbps down, 30mbps up) and I will set up port forwarding and a static IP tomorrow. Anything else you can recommend I try? Would WiFi extenders or a better router be needed perhaps?

    • @TheGameFatherUK

      Thanks for the kind words! I made a separate video that just deals with your home network and how to test for signal strength etc. You can view it here: ua-cam.com/video/atbJenpS3Mc/v-deo.html
      If you're extending wireless around the house, it's always best to have the access points hardwired in where possible. If that's not possible, extenders can work but they can be hit and miss because they may still just be extending a weak signal. Another option might be the LAN over Power devices. They use your electrical wiring to transmit network data over. I have a couple in my house. I lose quite a lot of speed with them, but not enough to degrade the connection on the Portal.

    I called up my ISP (Hyperoptic) with this issue and they agreed its a port forwarding thing. However, they told me in order to get a static IP from them, I need to pay them an extra fiver a month.
    Is there a way round this?
    Any help much appreciated!

    • @TheGameFatherUK
      @TheGameFatherUK  9 місяців тому +2

      You're most welcome! The type of IP address your ISP is referring to is a public static IP and it's commonplace for them to charge a small fee for it. However, you DO NOT need a static public IP address for port forwarding to work.
      The static IP address you need is just for your console which is on your internal network, it's not externally facing. So you don't need to pay them for a static IP, just make sure it's set either on your console directly or from your router on your internal network. Then it's just a matter of pointing those ports for the PS Remote Play to your console and it's internal static IP.
      Hope that makes sense!

    • @TheGameFatherUK
      @TheGameFatherUK  10 місяців тому

      Well, probably the easiest thing to check would be the latency on the hotel's WiFi. If you Google Ookla Speedtest and run that, it'll give you a ping/latency result as well as the up and download speed. Hotels are serving internet to lots of people who could be using the connection for 'all sorts of stuff'. You also have the added complexity of traffic shaping and firewall rules at a hotel. You might find it more beneficial to try a mobile hotspot if you have good signal.

      The fact that it is working on the mobile hotspot points to it being security on the WiFi away from home. For example, at my work, it will not connect via WiFi because it's blocked. Could that be a similar thing for you?

      2.4Ghz is usually a more crowded frequency just because of the number of devices that use it. Does your router offer any kind of scanning of your environment? Basically, if you can't connect to it at all from any source outside your home, then it'll likely be a network configuration issue back at home. However, if it works from a friends house or say at work, but won't work on cellular, then it's more likely an issue with the cellular service provider.

      Hey there. Before setting bridge mode (which probably would help, yes). Can you try having the PS5 temporarily connect to the ISP router via a LAN cable and test? If you have the ports forwarded or UPnP enabled, it should work. If it does, you're 1 step closer to getting it to work through the other network device.

    hi ,i‘ve some question
    my router upnp was enable,do i still need to done the port forwarding to let outside connection come in to ps5?
    now i facing a problem is cant connect ps portal to ps5 when using outside wifi(300mbps and 5ghz),but some phone hotspot can
    i just think will that be some blocking on the router setting?
    thank you so much

    • @TheGameFatherUK
      @TheGameFatherUK  5 місяців тому +1

      Hey there. UPnP is doing the same thing as port forwarding only it's done automatically when the request comes in from outside. So technically it should work just fine (albeit at a slight increased risk to security). If it's working sometimes but not others I wouldn't imagine it to be a problem at the routers end. Although setting up port forwarding manually would rule out any issues with intermittent UPnP.
      Mobile hotspots are a bit hit and miss because they add so many variables such as signal, stability and ISP restrictions.

    • @TheGameFatherUK
      @TheGameFatherUK  4 місяці тому +1

      Hey there. First thing to check with your ISP is if they use something called CGNAT. It's becoming more and more popular with ISP's as it's a way of them sharing out IP addresses. Unfortunately it makes things like remote play almost impossible to configure.
      My own ISP uses CGNAT, but they have an options where you can pay them a very small amount of money per month for a static, public IP address which solves the problem.

    Is there a big difference between setting the static point on the ps5 compared to doing it on the router?

    • @TheGameFatherUK
      @TheGameFatherUK  9 місяців тому +1

      No, not a big difference, it's effectively the same thing really. The benefit from doing it via the router is that it's centrally managed. With a single fixed IP it's not such an issue. But if you had a number of fixed addresses that are all set on the devices themselves, you can imagine that it'd become easy to lose track of that. Having the router do that for you means it's all in 1 place, easy to update and quick.
      Setting it on the console is absolutely fine though. Just make sure you don't set it to an address that's already in use by another device.

      First thing is to confirm whether or not it works from a different external WiFi network (not corporate WiFi), because mobile data can be a bit tricky, especially on some networks like T-Mobile. If it does work, at least you'll know that your config at home is working ok which means it's either an issue with how the iPhone is working or the mobile data provider (most likely).

      I use EE personally and don't have any issues but I've ready many instances of others that are struggling. Since it works on other connections away from home, your router must be setup correctly with port forwarding etc. Did you ever come across the EE APN profile that you can download? I've never tested it personally, so please don't take this as advice, but it might be worth having a look at.

      For iPhone click on ‘raw’ it will download the profile needed for the APN. Once downloaded go to settings and it will be there ready to install, keep pressing install and you’re done. It’s then listed under the settings /general /VPN tab named as configuration file: EE APN IPv4 :)
      Reboot phone and test again.

    Im not sure why everyone is saying this isn’t worth it. Who ever uses remote play on their phone is weird tbh. The latency makes remote play un us usable. This Ps portal literally has no latency. It’s not the same as remote play. Especially with added PlayStation link.
    Also a ps5 controller is about £80 , this is £200 with a screen. The pro controller itself is literally £200🤣. Ps portal can be used as a 2nd controller also
    There isn’t a handheld device where u can use all features on your ps5. , most handhelds are operated by Microsoft or just cloud gaming. Another point is there literally is no other handheld device with a better controller set up compared to the ps portal. Ps5 controller is arguably the best base controller out at the moment.

      Hey there! Thanks for the comments :) I'm not overly familiar with serviced apartment internet but my first question is do you only have access to WiFi or do they provide any ethernet ports at all?
      I wouldn't imagine that setting a static IP will help with the disconnections as the network is likely keeping the same IP for your devices for at least a day.
      The issue is more likely congestion on the WiFi. Have you tried any of the WiFi scanning apps to see what the congestion is like? If you're on Android, WiFiMan is excellent. It'll show you latency, channel utilisation and signal strength. Your internet connection speed is fine, but also fairly irrelevant when it comes to playing on WiFi as that's all on the LAN.

    • @TheGameFatherUK
      @TheGameFatherUK  5 місяців тому

      @@abhinavmadaan Ok, well it's a bit of a shot in the dark but given there are 33 clients on that network alone, plus any other number of other WiFi devices in the local vicinity, I'd be willing to bet it's a WiFi congestion issue. It could also be any manner of Quality of Service things that the management company has running on the network too.
      It'd be worth hard wiring the PS5 into the ethernet to see if there is any difference. The only slight issue with that is that it might give the PS5 an IP address on a different section of the network (a different Subnet) which would mean the Portal couldn't communicate with it.
      Do you know if you're allowed to add any network gear of your own in the apartment? If so, you could add an access point (a cheap new TP Link one should be fine), then you can choose what channel your WiFi uses as well as have some control over your own devices on the network.
      This might work well for the Portal BUT, it may also have an impact on any online games you might play because you'd be effectively be behind 2 routers (double NAT). The PS5 might detect that and give you a Type 3 NAT connection which can restrict online play.
      Apologies for the essay, it's a bit of a complicated one :)
