This is what the owners manual for the 2016 1.4t jetta says about the type of oil... since theres alot of comments about it.. Your engine was factory-filled with a high-quality, synthetic all-season engine oil that meets strict Volkswagen oil quality standards and has a viscosity grade of SAE 5W-40. or SAE 5W-30. You can use this oil for normal driving in all temperatures. If you need to add oil between oil changes, use only a high quality oil that expressly complies with the Volkswagen oil quality standard specified for your vehicle's engine: Engines Engine oil specification Gasoline engines VW 502 00 VW 503 00 VW 504 00 Diesel engines VW 507 00
Yes, it notes to not top off with more than a half-quart of non-euro-approved SAE 5w-30 in a pinch, but to use euro approved 5w-30 or 5w-40. I believe there is a note recommending Castrol but it's not that
Hi I'm confused regarding the oil. I recently bought this car model and change my oil. Before I changed oil, the car reached 40 MPG every time, and after I put the MOBIL 5W-40 European formula, it got down to 32 MPG. Do you know why it is happening? Any comment is very helpful. Thank you in advance.
Although you have the same winter viscosity. Your warm viscosity is thicker. Thus working the engine harder and consuming more fuel. I would recommend 5w30 oil.
Some straight up airheads in this comment section, I have this make and model. 135,000 miles in and I've always used 5w-30. IF you dont know what you're talking about be quiet
The oil you have used is not a bad oil, but it is not correct for this engine. You need 5W/30 with VW spec 507.000. Mostly these are the golden Castrol bottles. But your engine won't take any harm from driving with engine, but it is made for GM-cars.
You can Depending on the Manufacturers specifications, for example waiting on the car to tell you. Some Mechanics will tell you somewhere between the 5k and 10k mile mark. Dont forget the air filter along with the oil change 👌
Friendly feedback - get your facts right before you make a video. Torque wrench is for fastening only, correct oil grade is 5W40, you do not put oil on the drain plug washer, torque drain plug 22 ft-lbs, not Nm....
You put the wrong oil in it takes castrol 5w40 and the drain plug does need to be changed every oil change it should come with the oe vw oil filter purchased at the dealer
You can use either. The dealers use 5w-40 even though the manual says 5w-30. I recommend 5w-30c3 because its good for 16,000km instead of the 5w-40 which is good to 12,000km
That oil is not the correct oil . I know for a fact that the Castrol 5w30 you used is not VW approved . I would dump it now and put correct oil in . You will have problems down the road if you don't . Just trying to help you out
5w30 and 5w40 full synthetic is what this car takes. i have read the owners manual myself. it doesnt matter which one. castrol edge is the recommended one. so idk what the comments are from
@@husseymangtv ok let's clarify the oil situation. There is 5w30, and then there os 5w30 European, and I recal seeing those from the same brand. the "european" formula had the golden bottle while the "western" 5w30 was just black Same with gasoline. The little compartment door says 91 if in Europe, while the R+2 method says it's fine with 87. German cars, why? 😕
@@jssdgarage not really. Thia video just needs a revision. As much as I like this video because it's the first one I watched regarding the oil change for my 2016 Jetta, the oil needs to be Euro 5w-40. (Pentosin, liqui moly) 4 quartz =/= 4 liters (the actual capacity of the oil tank).

A torque wrench is the wrong tool for unscrewing tight bolts. You want to use a breaker bar instead. Torque wrenches are for precision torquing.
Absolutely right, I believe the breaker bar was missing in action that day.
Ok wrench police. It got the job done shut up
Buen video, no encontraba a que torque lleva el tapón, gracias
Does it require a new drain plug every time or just the washers ?
Same Drain Plug, New Washer.

What kind of washer did you get? I noticed it’s a copper one. Any leaks using that one?
If i recall correctly we used universal copper crush washers from the local autoparts store.
No leaks were ever present.

it can take 5w 40 or 30.
thank you thank you thank you
how often should you change the oil

In the US you need to change it every 10.000 miles. In Europe they go up to 20.000 miles.
I recommend every 10k

Get your facts right before correcting someone it takes 5w30 as well
30 or 40 and it depends where you live as well like if in Florida use 40 but if in North Carolina use 30

Appreciate the feedback!
Indeed looks like we read the tech sheet wrong.
If im not mistaken should be 5w-40 and the golden bottle? Correct if im wrong but the vw dealership used 5w-40
