"Why do you write like you're running out of time?"
    Because this time, he is.

Omg😭 I love Leslie's portrayal of excitement and clear happiness we see in Burr as he campaigns and then that crushing feeling when he isn't chosen, I love him for the acting but hate seeing him so distraught like that, god damn

If you pay attention, The Bullet is the one who gives Burr his quill.

As usual, I love Jefferson in this. It should have been clear to anyone who knew him that Hamilton would vote for Jefferson. He could never understand why Burr wouldn't stand for something because he always fought so passionately for what he believed was right - and even though they were usually on opposite sides, he respected Jefferson for fighting too. I believe if Burr would have finally stated his position on the issues Hamilton would have voted for him, but he didn't.
The 12th Amendment to the constitution, which was ratified during Jefferson's first term, called for a separate vote for president and vice president instead of just one vote with the runner-up becoming vice president. The reason for this new amendment was because of the elections of 1796 (where Adams and Jefferson fought because they came from different parties) and especially 1800 - where they voted !! 35 times !! resulting in a tie between Jefferson and Burr; but on the 36th vote Hamilton stepped up and openly backed Jefferson. There's no indication in history that Jefferson backed the 12th amendment though.
I can see that in his anger, Burr would blame Hamilton, but the reality of the situation is that Alexander was asked for his opinion and he gave it. Plus, I love the fact that Lin Manuel Miranda had Hamilton list 30 years worth of disagreements, and the lady who brings over the last 2 pages fakes Burr out and laughs about it.

sorry my bad, I reread your message and saw you did right correctly.
But to add to this as opposed to what is in the Play
the real story is the Jefferson and Burr run together in the same Party with the Full expectation of being President and Vice President
and since the election of 1796 causes the issue you said (Adams of the Federalist being President but Jefferson being Vice) then every Republican Rep voted for Both of them
this cause them to be in a Tie and since this mean the House will vote on who is president and the house was held by the Federalist then the campaign for Burr over Jefferson begun
They needed a full majority vote though, and while Hamilton did support Jefferson it most likely didn't shift the votes considerably

@@idopanski8699 There were 16 states by 1800, and each state representative had 1 vote, and a candidate had to get 9 votes to win. 35 times the vote was 8 for Jefferson, 6 for Burr, and 2 divided for others. After Hamilton spoke up, the 36th vote was 10 for Jefferson, 4 for Burr, and 2 left blank as abstaining from the vote - and Jefferson became president. So Hamilton got 2 representatives to switch from Burr to Jefferson and that's all it took to get Jefferson over 9 votes.
The saddest part of the duel is that while Hamilton ended up dead, Burr ended up with the rest of his life ruined by killing Hamilton. If Burr could have just held his temper he might have run again later and became president... but after the duel his political career was basically over.
