Gene makes love to his drums with his eyes looking at them and rolling back in his head . . . his head going back and forth, his hands moving all over those drums and even his feet going to the beat . . . his lips moving. He is so handsome that's for sure. You just can't compare him and Buddy. Each one is unique and has his own style. I love them both. 2018 SYLVIA - FL
Hi Joseph, My father was Eddie Shu. If you click my picture there's several audio and video files on my youtube page under Eddie Shu. Him with Gene and playing clarinet with Louis Armstrong as well. Aloha, Evan
Difference between Gene and Buddy...Gene had humility and could go quiet with his band, Buddy always had to be the loud spotlight...Krupa V Rich.....Gene, hands down.
Does anyone know where I can find this version of the song? It's so mesmerizing and in a way less flashy. It gives room for all the instruments to "breathe"
Gene knew all the technical rudiments He also could do fast rolls when the music required.it. I'm tired of people always saying that buddy was the best technical drummer but he was NOT!
You are probably one of the only other people that I've heard say this. This is the absolute truth. Buddy Rich could play, don't get me wrong, but Gene Krupa had amazing showmanship whenever he played. He was both an amazing drummer and showman.
No wonder all the psychedelic bands' drummers wanted to be Gene Krupa! Shu is a monster, too, but who is playing the great bass and piano? I'm 4:38 into it and I haven't even seen the pianist yet.
Gene always stayed with Slingerland - loyalty. Buddy was mainly Slingerland, but changed where the money was. Ludwig, Rogers ect. Gene's and Buddy's Caravans, are vastly different.
When Eddie Shu switches to harmonica this number goes onto a different level of sublimity, and what a real musician as well as showman Gene Krupa was!
About as lush a sound as you can get from four musicians. Amazing dynamics, execution and interplay.

I keep coming back to this yearly. Eddie throws down the universe on this one🪄🌎
GENE KRUPA
THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The only and only Eddie Shu.
This is Amazing!!
Beauty and genius all around Thanks

Hey Evan this is a killer band! Great performances by all the musicians! I love Krupa in a small band setting. Your Dad was brilliant!
Your father was the reason I listened to Gene's trio.
Sweet! I’ll check that out. Thanks!
The feel, these guys have it in spades.
Simply the best!!!

Gene played like he loved the drums. Buddy played like he was mad at them.
I loved em both.
Buddy was a better soloist, Gene was a better band drummer
Listen to Buddy Rich play with Lester Young and Nat King Cole.
I did not Gene play but I did see Buddy Rich several times and to my mind Gene was far more musical than Buddy ever was
The Master Of Feel...
A joy to watch.
I never knew that GK was such a mad scientist on those skins.

Gene always staid with Slingerland. " loyalty “
I love this. What is the name of the song? Have always liked Gene Krupa.
Gene knew all the technical rudiments He also could do fast rolls when the music required.it. I'm tired of people always saying that buddy was the best technical drummer but he was NOT!
Soooooo much classier and charismatic than Buddy...Rich was fast...But Krupa had class...

Plus, Gene has varied emotions during his performance: joy, intensity, pathos, etc. Buddy just looks pissed-off...THE WHOLE TIME!

Drum companies don't pay the drummers, they supply them with drums and provide publicity.
George Neidorf
Buddy was paid very handsomely , to play certain brands.
Gene received a small percentage of all new Slingerland sales.
El más grande
WOW
IMO, Gene Krupa is the best drummer, bar none.
Great finesse, especially when you see the shirtless, drum bashing rock drummers of today.
Gene was the better showman than Rich. Rich was the better drummer but Gene knew when to roll soft and with the mood.
