Today I am showing you how to play the Gayatri Mantra on UKELELE in FINGERPICKING STYLE. I am using the mantra from DEVA PREMAL & MITEN.
“The Gayatri Mantra is said to be the oldest and most powerful of mantras, being thousands of years old. It purifies the person chanting it as well as the listener as it creates a tangible sense of well being in whoever comes across it. Translated, it means “May all beings on earth reach enlightenment,” but as with all mantras, the meaning of the Sanskrit words isn’t as important as the effect the vibrations of the words have on the body and energy centers” - Deva Premal
Meaning mantra:
Aum (or Om)- God/Brahma
BhUR - Pranic energy
Bhuvah - Destroyer of sufferings
Swaha - Happiness bestowing
Tat - God or Spirit
Savitur - Bright Sun/God (Also the name of a specific deva, Savitur)
Varenyam - Greatest
Bhargo - Destroyer of misdeeds
Devasya - Supreme God
Dhimahi - Knowledge imparted/understood
Dhiyo - Intelligence
Yo - Who
Na - Our
Prachodayat - Enlightenment

This is a beautiful rendition of this mantra. I love Deva Premals version.Thank you so much for this. I have just recently got a ukelele and was inspired to get one by my yoga teacher singing kirtan at the end of the class using a ukelele and these classes are just what I needed and the chords are kept simple. This is a great finger picking pattern that I can actually manage to do. Namaste 🙏
