If I recall, they did a poll after the last of us, and it was almost 80% of people who agreed with Joel's choice. They set up the whole story so that we'd feel about the same.
I also agreed, but mostly because I found the concept of killing the only immune person for a small chance at a cure to be stupid at best.
He made the only choice he could.

OMG as a huge TLOU fan who absolutely loves both games Part 1 and 2 both masterpieces. This trailer I got goosebumps all over it looks so wonderful I recognize so much from the 2nd game. Also Abby is one of my favorite characters hopefully they do her story justice. I cannot wait!!!

I'd imagine that Joel won't sing Future Days to Ellie, because the outbreak happened in 2006 in the show's continuity, years before that song was recorded.

The Last Us: Part 2 is a masterpiece in the gaming world. Everything from the cinematography, the music, the direction, to the amazing performances is top notch. Ashley Johnson’s motion capture performance of Ellie was so one of the best performances of the last decade, including in films and tv series. Adapting Part 1 was a cakewalk compared to the high level of execution they need to achieve to honor this story. I’m totally open to them delivering but just laying out the tough job they have with this one. The trailer looks pretty faithful. It’s funny but honestly the thing that I liked the least was the addition of this Catherine O’Hara counselor character. Amazing actress but she’s totally unnecessary because Joel confides everything to Tommy. She seems like she would just be taking screen time away from the brothers, whose connection is really important.
