When humanity doesn't stand up in front of evil this is what happens.Example after world war one,the Society Of Nations limited the military capability of Germany, but when Hitler came to power in 1933, he started rearming Germany, everybody knew of his plans he never hid them but the trauma resulting in four long years of fighting made Europeans reluctant to engage in a limited military campaign or sanctions to stop him,Because of that the world had to deal with another war that lasted almost six year(1939-1945).

The story of the lower torso being blown in the air and landing bare ass up in front of the sitting marine was probably the funniest thing this guy's had seen up to that point. It had me laughing, and hearing the guy still laugh just telling the story makes me believe it even more

In one sense, the battle of Midway was won in the Coral Sea. The Kido Butai was caught flat-footed at Midway, in part, because the first air strike on Midway was deemed inadequate. If Shokaku and Zuikaku had not been damaged in the Coral Sea, they would have been at Midway, along with Kaga, Akagi, Hiryo and Soryu. The first strike on Midway would more likely have neutralized the installation, the combat air patrol over the fleet would have been more powerful, and even the recon runs in the morning could have been more thorough... the Japanese fleet would not have been so helpless, and would have had a much stronger punch to throw at the American carriers. Yorktown and Lexington accomplished far more than could have been known by the men of their fleet, at the time.

Dear all, wars are 'big shiits', Americans have always defended their pacific coastlanes and lifestyles. Economists, environmentalists and negotiators tend to conduct reasonable negociations, up until today. Commitments. These Japanese also mess up with Koreans and Chinese. And these Japanese mess up with other citizens of the world
Save the dolphins, sea lions and maritime lifes... As our oceans have their roles to regulate climates on earth...

Reply to ThreeBattRanger.....Army myself (Vietnam) so not prejudiced either way. Except for Philippines can't think of any Island campaign where Marines weren't involved. Lets agree that both branches did a tremendous job fighting a tough resourceful but under supplied and undermanned enemy. Greatest generation

No. 1. Our troops were Marines. Tough as they come. We had naval air and ship superiority after Midway. No.2. We could supply are forces with food ,ammo, medical etc..There's more but. No.3 and most important Japanese never surrendered and could not retreat.. Would gladly give their life to their emperor

Slight quibble - more amphibious invasion occurred in the Pacific with Army troops than Marines. Those men are often forgotten about, but participated in almost every invasions the Marines did.

You know, I just cant figure it out... How USA with no war or battle experience, have such low loses compared to the Japanese that had years of experience and with special focus on jungle warfare training, can someone explain this to me? Not to mention that the Japanese were on defence, which means that in addition to their experience, they had all the advantages...

The Japanese has always answered that: we had the medics, which saved many lives, and America had more resources. The IJ military could not replace their ships, planes, fuel, food supplies. A stronger military defeated the Japanese.

Doctrine of overwhelming firepower would be first on my list of why we had successful outcomes of the majority of engagements
Abundant resources, combined arms and superior codebreaking and communicating amonst combatants would be orher major points worthy of mention ....

"The war will be over in a matter of weeks, on to Richmond!" Was the Yankee battle cry, then came bull Run, SHILOH, 7 days, Antietam, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Vicksburg? Atlanta, Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor, Franklin, Nashville, Petersburg and Appomattox.
      750,000-1.5 million casualties from 1861-65.
      Shiloh 23,000 in 2 days
      Antietam 22,017 in 12 hours
      Gettysburg 53,000 in 3 days
But World War Two casualties of 6,000 on Iwo Jima and Okinawa which took weeks/months of fighting...🤔

  • @stuartmacleod8166
    @stuartmacleod8166 28 днів тому

The narrator commented that Tarawa was the most concentrated area of death in WW2
Not to disparage his knowledge or truthfulness but my mind immediately countered that statement with thoughts of the busiest of the concentration camps of Eastern Europe
1000 American & 3000 Japanese deceased is paltry compared the numbers of victims shot, gassed and or burned at those horrific places....
Several of the major battles between the Soviets and Germans alone surpass 4000 kia as well
Leningrad and Stalingrad each surpass that total easily
I in no way art tempt to diminish the sacrifice of the combatants on any side in that horrible conflict that was ww2
