Kinda disappointing that the ST has base model brakes.

A major step missing here is that if you're not replacing brand new brake pads (which you probably aren't) you'll need to compress the brake caliper piston so that you'll have room for the new pads. You'll need a piston tool or a large c clamp and a pair of vice grips to complete this.
