The best part about Elaina's character is that she never tries to save anyone like some hero because she knows that she's not a hero, she is merely a traveler observing events as they unfold and she never gets fully involved in something unless it's going to benefit her
apprantly in the manga she did try to find out what is happening but by the time she figured it out its already too late to save the flower girl's brother. but in the anime there isnt much time to show all that

Kino on the other hand relies more on the twist ending, with something happening at the end of an episode that makes you rethink everything you had watched up until that point. The original and remake are both good in this regard and there are enough different stories that you can watch both series.

The poisonous smoke thing makes absolutely no sense, because the only way the entire town isn't already hypnotized is if the plant didn't ever try to bring it's flowers into town, before Elaina came around, which makes even less sense.
She isn't cold. She just can't meddle. Few episodes later, you'll realise what I just said. At Episode 1, her mother instructed her not to go in any unnecessary danger.

From the synopsis from Muse I thought that it would be about Elaina getting suckered into an MLM or Pyramid scheme lol. I'm watching Episode 8 right now, I'll put my thoughts here later
I really liked it because it broke down the pre-conception that the main character always has to be kind and help everyone in need. Elaina isn't like that. If there is nothing in it for her, why should she help? She'd just put herself in unnecessary danger which she promised her mom she would stay away from. This of couse also means that we often leave these situations half-solved. She doesn't find a solution to the flower problem. She doesn't stick around to make sure the slave girl doesn't get depressed after being shown all the happiness she can't have. And even in episode 9 when she travels back in time, she is still just observing. Sure the other witch is using her magic to prevent the backlash but that is the only help she provides because that was part of the deal because she needed the money, not because she was emotionally involved which is also evident when she takes the job, she asks about the money first - not the job.
I'm not an English speaker so apologies to my poor English. For people who complain Elaina not helping others in Ep 3 and 4, here's what I will say. Elaina is just a traveler, not a savior. She can only to mind her own business with the identity as a traveler. She has no right to be involved into someone else's business. Also, she can only record and write down where she's been and what she saw. Notice she only stays in a country for 2-5 days only. If she put too much emotions to a place or a person, this will make her feel sad or sorry if she need to leave the place or the person. And this will only make her feel bad and cannot continue her journey. Plus she promises her parents to get away first and stay safe if something or someone was dangerous.
Heck even in the most recent episode she only helped because she wanted to. As well as because she would've likely have been sad leaving a friend and an entire country hanging. She doesn't always help but she isn't a monster who never helps anyone.

The city makes money from flower scam or something, and Artemisia became like an idol of the city so men would travel to the city just to woo her. The brother got jealous (it's hinted that he's sexually attracted to her) and locked her in their house. Rumors spread. Artemisia snuck out to get some flowers I can't exactly remember why, but at that point, the flowers have already mutated and thus was the girl Elaina saw at the beginning. When Elaina met Artemisia, Artemisia gave her the bouquet yeah? Artemisia wanted to give her brothers some flowers with a meaning like I'll always love you + rejection, basically telling him to stay away from her, but the flower's already fucked with her brain. She wrapped the bouquet with her scarf. When Elaina arrived at the gate of the city of flowers, Sorol recognized the scarf. Unlike the anime, somehow the scarf/flowers weren't burnt, and so he got infected and went to the flower field and die. The origin of the flowers was that it was created by a mage, that's why they have magic to begin with It's been awhile since I read it, so it's a little hazy

At the end of episode 3, Nino's shadow was shown more blurry compared to the boy's. Her shadow fades away as well as her will to live. It's a cool way to show us the ending without having to directly face it ourselves. You all know dead people (ghosts) don't have shadows.

I don't know but I like the originality of this story. I have enough of basic MC characters like Isekai-type. Always sticking their nose to others' problems and become heroes in every event. Elaina feels normal to me, like a normal human being even though she can use magic, but her personality is human-like. And every twist and tragedy in her story feels like a real-world event since not everything will works as we expected and mostly twisted horribly. Again, love the story of Elaina

I've been watching dark and depressing anime genres lately and I thought I should wind up and watch some slice of cuteness anime and encountered Majo no TabiTabi. I was like oh this should be perfect until some episodes later I didn't know I would be questioning my existence 😭
I feel like most of the people who watched this expected it to be like Little Witch Academia but with a more grown up character, definetly didn't expect those dark turns
I had found the novels when I went to Barnes and nobles. I thought the cover looked nice but I didn’t end up buying it. I write it down in paper to check if it had an anime adaptation. I didn’t remember about it until later and decided to search it up. I watched the anime and I also thought it’d be a wholesome witch anime. When I watched more and more episodes I was surprised and a bit confused. When I got to the episode where she takes an escort job and goes back in time to save that person’s best friend. Before, i was about to recommend this anime to my younger cousins because I thought they’d like it and it’s short. Even so, it was still a great anime and I enjoyed it a lot.
What I noticed that makes her stand out from other main characters in anime, is that she never judges a person (their dark personality anyways). Like the princess, she knew that her story was strange and off, but she never spoke out on her vegence. or how the guy was taking people's happiness and storing it for his own uses. This anime is very good, very different I am surprised it is not more popualar, it is better than jujitsu kaisen in my opinon.
I was so darn happy. I was expecting a dark ish anime, it gave me kino's journey vibes. These types of animes or such really show what a journey is, it isn't just full of wonders. There are so many dark places, that's what a traveller will come across. Especially in the era this anime seems to be based in.
actually she is good-hearted with her friends and sensei. Except Amnesia, Sharon, the Dragon calls Luciela, Ornella, and someone who i cant remember right now, these are people who was saved or helped by she, also in ep1 of the anime version, Viktoria - her mom told her 3 things 1. To run away from trouble 2. To not think she is special 3. Come back home so she had never taken the risk of doing something, or she knows that if she does it will hurt the people in the story. However, Majo no tabitabi is a good anime and the light novel of it is great too!

They didn't know that their village got invaded by giant foxes and killed the people living there because their territories got disturbed - an immortal girl whose hobby is to kill herself
Honestly i wouldn't really call it dark but more like beautiful It really show us that real life can be very fun and enjoyable or sad and depressing and we can't tell when the best or the worse of times come
I disagree. The main point that the show is trying to convey during the darker episodes is that life isn’t always sunshine and rainbows. For example, can you really call episode 9 beautiful? If you had a childhood friend that ended up becoming a murderer you definitely would not just be kind of sad or depressed. This kind of stuff will traumatize you for life. And in my opinion being traumatized for life is not beautiful at all.

i dont really find episode 9 darker than any episode or scenes in the LN, actually its more creepier if you had read the LN.. its the fact that she was quite involved and invested during episode 9 in the anime, that she felt guilt on what happened.
Episode 9 is the saddest one and even the conclusion made Elaina breakdown, It's really up to people interpert how Estell will bear her own responsibilty and its just really sad to think about it even after it is concluded
The pure darkness and horror of episode 3 really sealed this series possibly my favorite of the season. I like how it’s now so comedic just to provide some variety.

It always seemed a bit that way. The start was cool at first, then as the journey starts, it gets weirder and weirder, from the flower thing, to that go back to time, even to that cursed castle.

This show for the most part was fun to watch I enjoyed the funnier moments, but when the dark elements came in I enjoyed even more. To clarify some of my favorite anime are Death Parade and Psycho Pass story with traumatizing and depressing plots that ultimately make you put done your device after each episode to recover. And I will say that episode 3 didn’t disappoint in that respect though I like the second half more as the whole situation can actually happen in real (to an extent) and the subtle hint that the wife from her book slit her wrist by not saying but just panning to a knife was genius and then her remark that she didn’t know what happened to the slave or that she didn’t want to know was chilling as she realized that there was anything good waiting down that path for her. Then episode 4 end Jesus besides the monster everything like that could happen to a person including her mental breakdown at the end with her eating dinner with her lover and their child like seriously that’s fucked up. Then we get to episode 9 and holy fuck shit just hit the fan as soon as I saw the viewer discretion notice I went “oh fuck” and Jesus fucking Christ why I mean I knew what was coming but still even I felt horrified especially after she explained herself ya I felt a little more uncomfortable when it happened in Elfen Lied as you are forced to watch her strip down for him but fuck then the ending holy shit I didn’t feel right after that.
I have currently stopped watching by the time travelling episode bcoz shoot that part was so heavy. Also, I love how Elaina doesn't actively involve herself with people's business. It's refreshing in an anime.
I like that although we see her often not meddling with the local affair and playing the hero, she does struggle with not being able to change anything from time to time.

(SUMMARY OF EP 3, WHY IS IT ONE OF THE BEST EP OF 2020) -MUST READ Elaina coudn't help the flower girl and her brother at the end, because it was too late to save him, and even if she could revive him, the brother already found happiness. At the end of that scene you also saw that there are mob who are like possessed by flower, elaina could burn the flowers but it would just worsen the situation, also the guard probably know of it that is why they dont allow witches who bring flower, there is also a barrier that witches can only enter that is why even if there are possessed like people they can't enter the gate. At the 2nd part You can see the boy really loves nino with all her heart but when elaina was putting her things in the table, you can see that nino was fixing her string of the back of her clothes in the same door that the chief exits, meaning she was sexually raped many times you can count, after that the chief also sees interest at elaina's kawaii body and was staring at her in the dining table. He also told her that after his wife died, so he was depressed and that is why he bought nina, saying that she was expensive but he was damn rich, this just shows that she was really a sex slave, and the sad thing is that the boy just knew that she was a maid, That is also why the chief gets angry whenever his son give gifts to nina because, it is kinda weird, disgusting and disturbing to see your son having love interest towards a slave whom you have sex whenever his son is outside busy collecting happiness for her... In the end Elaina knew that both of them would greatly suffer, to Nina who is a bird locked in a cage with no dignity and freedom, and for the boy just wants to give her the happiness that she deserves not knowing that she is a slave her father always play with... ELAINA DID THE RIGHT THING, NOT ONLY LISTENING TO HER MOTHER'D ADVICE BUT IT WAS FOR THE BEST AND TO ALL ELAINA HATERZ PLS UNDERSTAND!!!

Actual slice of life with magic, and also a second slice. Sounds good to me. . . . . . . . I mean the world isn't really just sunshine and rainbows, getting realism by adding in some dark aspects in a story makes it more captivating, and it adds more possibility in the story; which in my opinion makes it more fun and interesting.

I enjoyed the anime version much more. Elaina's thoughts on the story she read about the traveler and how she just wanted to make her wife happy by making her more depressed, explains in a subtle but clear way what will happen to the slave, namely that she will never be happy.

Anyone who thinks Elaina should've intervened in the lives of others are either: 1. Ignorant 2. Didn't watch the first 2 episodes 3. Thinks all anime is about an overpowered protagonist and doesn't watch any other anime aside from isekai or magic highschool harem.
There is a difference between not saving someone at the cost of your own safety and leaving a little girl to be repeatedly raped (she was literally being raped seconds before they met) by a 'mayor' of a small village. Honestly, if that is the kind of character the protagonist is that's fine, but don't defend it like its a morally ambiguous decision. She could have easily 'kidnapped' that girl, and used her status to get her some small paying job far-far away.

The adventures of Elaina might be a little dark but but it shows all prospects of life(sadness and happiness) so basically the show is saying that life isn't always perfect. So the adventures of Elaina isn't trying to be dark it's just showing realism
This show really annoyed me because the MC acted like they were not effected whatsoever about what happened in ep 9 and just continues on her cheery way.
Then what do you want her to do?? She just travel and write her own story. If she keep feeling sad and feel pity for them, she would just turn in to a emo charater. And even if it's supposed to be an incoherent mosh pit of stories, the side characters go against that establishing that it is indeed a coherent story. I forgot her name, but the yuri witch is a reoccurring character, and she is noticeably different each time. Also some episodes show or hint to her development. As for Elaina, she gets zero development whatsoever, completely stoic, which was fine until episode 9. Anyone would be traumatized by what happened, yet she did nothing about it. This is of course if she didn't write about it in her journal, if she didn't then that counts as some sort of development, as that would tell she wants to forget it. But taking Elaina's character into consideration, she probably still wrote it. I wish there was some change in how she acted in the later episodes, however subtle it was, because of how impactful episode 9 is on the watcher. She kinda feels dehumanized because there is no change in her character. If the author intended to just have a random string of stories that had no coherency to each other, then why in the world did they develop the side characters.
what i love about this series is that elaina is not obligated to "save" or help with the situation, which is quite realistic if you think about it. despite elaina being incredibly talented at such a young age, her disposition towards these situations are quite realistic. being a travelling witch doesn't mean you're a savior or special of any sorts

I almost got what I expected from the show...what I got was that this young witch will see about everything, the pretty and the ugly stuff...some stuff she can fix, some stuff that's better to be left alone...that's why I love the murder episode because it's some serious stuff that can leave a huge impression on someone...what I did not expect however is the lack of world building...it's rather vague...I was hoping that the mc would explore cultures and traditions and even get some political stuff...the show does provide all of this but not as much as I'd hoped...this show is more like a collection of fables with their own lessons and reflections (at least that's what I think)...still enjoyable tho but man am I a sucker for some world building

The best part about Elaina's character is that she never tries to save anyone like some hero because she knows that she's not a hero, she is merely a traveler observing events as they unfold and she never gets fully involved in something unless it's going to benefit her

@@flvckoVLONE Much like this show, there are some episodes that are completely harmless and some episodes that are like "Why do you do this to me Kino?" Kino on the other hand relies more on the twist ending, with something happening at the end of an episode that makes you rethink everything you had watched up until that point. The original and remake are both good in this regard and there are enough different stories that you can watch both series.

Episode 3-9: We've been tricked, we've been backstabbed and we've been quite possibly, bamboozled.
Episode 3 was rude, 4 dark, and 9 absolute horror. But episodes 5-8 are pretty chill and funny.

The poisonous smoke thing makes absolutely no sense, because the only way the entire town isn't already hypnotized is if the plant didn't ever try to bring it's flowers into town, before Elaina came around, which makes even less sense.

I really liked it because it broke down the pre-conception that the main character always has to be kind and help everyone in need. Elaina isn't like that. If there is nothing in it for her, why should she help? She'd just put herself in unnecessary danger which she promised her mom she would stay away from. This of couse also means that we often leave these situations half-solved. She doesn't find a solution to the flower problem. She doesn't stick around to make sure the slave girl doesn't get depressed after being shown all the happiness she can't have. And even in episode 9 when she travels back in time, she is still just observing. Sure the other witch is using her magic to prevent the backlash but that is the only help she provides because that was part of the deal because she needed the money, not because she was emotionally involved which is also evident when she takes the job, she asks about the money first - not the job.
I'm not an English speaker so apologies to my poor English.
For people who complain Elaina not helping others in Ep 3 and 4, here's what I will say.
Elaina is just a traveler, not a savior. She can only to mind her own business with the identity as a traveler. She has no right to be involved into someone else's business.
Also, she can only record and write down where she's been and what she saw. Notice she only stays in a country for 2-5 days only. If she put too much emotions to a place or a person, this will make her feel sad or sorry if she need to leave the place or the person. And this will only make her feel bad and cannot continue her journey.
Plus she promises her parents to get away first and stay safe if something or someone was dangerous.
Heck even in the most recent episode she only helped because she wanted to. As well as because she would've likely have been sad leaving a friend and an entire country hanging. She doesn't always help but she isn't a monster who never helps anyone.

While Kino is a more aggressive person, sometime she snap, lost her patience, and do what she wanna do ATM regardless of the benefit or moral of her action, perfect example is on the colosseum episode where she made people in that country killing each other.

The brother is named Sorol or something and the sister is Artemisia IIRC. They came to the city of flower and fell in love with the city and decided to live there. The city makes money from flower scam or something, and Artemisia became like an idol of the city so men would travel to the city just to woo her. The brother got jealous (it's hinted that he's sexually attracted to her) and locked her in their house. Rumors spread.
Artemisia snuck out to get some flowers I can't exactly remember why, but at that point, the flowers have already mutated and thus was the girl Elaina saw at the beginning. When Elaina met Artemisia, Artemisia gave her the bouquet yeah? Artemisia wanted to give her brothers some flowers with a meaning like I'll always love you + rejection, basically telling him to stay away from her, but the flower's already fucked with her brain. She wrapped the bouquet with her scarf.
When Elaina arrived at the gate of the city of flowers, Sorol recognized the scarf. Unlike the anime, somehow the scarf/flowers weren't burnt, and so he got infected and went to the flower field and die.
The origin of the flowers was that it was created by a mage, that's why they have magic to begin with

What's it about
One of my favorite things about this anime is how were left on questions and find out the endings for ourselves
At the end of episode 3, Nino's shadow was shown more blurry compared to the boy's. Her shadow fades away as well as her will to live. It's a cool way to show us the ending without having to directly face it ourselves. You all know dead people (ghosts) don't have shadows.
Really? that nice I guess... it good it gave a hint that she past away. she doesn't have to deal with that nasty old man. we already know mens back in the days would be about pleasure and controlling.
I don't know but I like the originality of this story. I have enough of basic MC characters like Isekai-type. Always sticking their nose to others' problems and become heroes in every event. Elaina feels normal to me, like a normal human being even though she can use magic, but her personality is human-like. And every twist and tragedy in her story feels like a real-world event since not everything will works as we expected and mostly twisted horribly.
Again, love the story of Elaina
well, this story is just like life itself. There are happy and tragic moments so it's not all about wholesomeness

I've been watching dark and depressing anime genres lately and I thought I should wind up and watch some slice of cuteness anime and encountered Majo no TabiTabi. I was like oh this should be perfect until some episodes later I didn't know I would be questioning my existence 😭

I had found the novels when I went to Barnes and nobles. I thought the cover looked nice but I didn’t end up buying it. I write it down in paper to check if it had an anime adaptation. I didn’t remember about it until later and decided to search it up. I watched the anime and I also thought it’d be a wholesome witch anime. When I watched more and more episodes I was surprised and a bit confused. When I got to the episode where she takes an escort job and goes back in time to save that person’s best friend. Before, i was about to recommend this anime to my younger cousins because I thought they’d like it and it’s short. Even so, it was still a great anime and I enjoyed it a lot.
What I noticed that makes her stand out from other main characters in anime, is that she never judges a person (their dark personality anyways). Like the princess, she knew that her story was strange and off, but she never spoke out on her vegence. or how the guy was taking people's happiness and storing it for his own uses. This anime is very good, very different I am surprised it is not more popualar, it is better than jujitsu kaisen in my opinon.
Kino's Journey is one of those shows I've always wanted to watch and seeing people comparing this gem to it makes me want to watch it even more
I was so darn happy. I was expecting a dark ish anime, it gave me kino's journey vibes. These types of animes or such really show what a journey is, it isn't just full of wonders. There are so many dark places, that's what a traveller will come across. Especially in the era this anime seems to be based in.
actually she is good-hearted with her friends and sensei. Except Amnesia, Sharon, the Dragon calls Luciela, Ornella, and someone who i cant remember right now, these are people who was saved or helped by she, also in ep1 of the anime version, Viktoria - her mom told her 3 things
1. To run away from trouble
2. To not think she is special
3. Come back home
so she had never taken the risk of doing something, or she knows that if she does it will hurt the people in the story.
However, Majo no tabitabi is a good anime and the light novel of it is great too!

- a country full of ghouls (an idiot magician thought it was a good idea to make a realistic ghoul themed country)
- a country where twins are discriminated (really messed up story)
- a country where criminals are punished by placing a magic on them where they will lose memories everyday and make them travel the world on their own, they also discriminate people who cant use magic.
- a witch placed a curse on her daughter to kill anyone who attempts to rape her. Ended up getting killed by her own daughter because she didn't know her mother was just trying to protect her.
- a familiar magic expert family of women who turned their own friends and husbands into their own familiar as a tradition.
- travelers killed giant foxes to make money and save their village from a disease. They didn't know that their village got invaded by giant foxes and killed the people living there because their territories got disturbed
- an immortal girl whose hobby is to kill herself

It really show us that real life can be very fun and enjoyable or sad and depressing and we can't tell when the best or the worse of times come
I disagree. The main point that the show is trying to convey during the darker episodes is that life isn’t always sunshine and rainbows. For example, can you really call episode 9 beautiful? If you had a childhood friend that ended up becoming a murderer you definitely would not just be kind of sad or depressed. This kind of stuff will traumatize you for life. And in my opinion being traumatized for life is not beautiful at all.

i dont really find episode 9 darker than any episode or scenes in the LN, actually its more creepier if you had read the LN.. its the fact that she was quite involved and invested during episode 9 in the anime, that she felt guilt on what happened.
I love this anime because it matches reality in our world and it's quite realistic
Episode 9 is the saddest one and even the conclusion made Elaina breakdown, It's really up to people interpert how Estell will bear her own responsibilty and its just really sad to think about it even after it is concluded
The pure darkness and horror of episode 3 really sealed this series possibly my favorite of the season. I like how it’s now so comedic just to provide some variety.

That is not teeth. It always seemed a bit that way. The start was cool at first, then as the journey starts, it gets weirder and weirder, from the flower thing, to that go back to time, even to that cursed castle.
i like Elaina's decisions wether or not being involved in other's business, basically, she is a traveler, not a hero ! she has her own dream and family waiting for her, being selfless like a fool loly won't give her any benefits,she knows how to live her life and make healthy relationships that won't interfere with her dream and that's how real-life work

This show for the most part was fun to watch I enjoyed the funnier moments, but when the dark elements came in I enjoyed even more. To clarify some of my favorite anime are Death Parade and Psycho Pass story with traumatizing and depressing plots that ultimately make you put done your device after each episode to recover. And I will say that episode 3 didn’t disappoint in that respect though I like the second half more as the whole situation can actually happen in real (to an extent) and the subtle hint that the wife from her book slit her wrist by not saying but just panning to a knife was genius and then her remark that she didn’t know what happened to the slave or that she didn’t want to know was chilling as she realized that there was anything good waiting down that path for her. Then episode 4 end Jesus besides the monster everything like that could happen to a person including her mental breakdown at the end with her eating dinner with her lover and their child like seriously that’s fucked up. Then we get to episode 9 and holy fuck shit just hit the fan as soon as I saw the viewer discretion notice I went “oh fuck” and Jesus fucking Christ why I mean I knew what was coming but still even I felt horrified especially after she explained herself ya I felt a little more uncomfortable when it happened in Elfen Lied as you are forced to watch her strip down for him but fuck then the ending holy shit I didn’t feel right after that.
This anime is more like a psychological fantasy than a cute fantasy witch adventure
I have currently stopped watching by the time travelling episode bcoz shoot that part was so heavy.
Also, I love how Elaina doesn't actively involve herself with people's business. It's refreshing in an anime.

(SUMMARY OF EP 3, WHY IS IT ONE OF THE BEST EP OF 2020) -MUST READ Elaina coudn't help the flower girl and her brother at the end, because it was too late to save him, and even if she could revive him, the brother already found happiness. At the end of that scene you also saw that there are mob who are like possessed by flower, elaina could burn the flowers but it would just worsen the situation, also the guard probably know of it that is why they dont allow witches who bring flower, there is also a barrier that witches can only enter that is why even if there are possessed like people they can't enter the gate. At the 2nd part You can see the boy really loves nino with all her heart but when elaina was putting her things in the table, you can see that nino was fixing her string of the back of her clothes in the same door that the chief exits, meaning she was sexually raped many times you can count, after that the chief also sees interest at elaina's kawaii body and was staring at her in the dining table. He also told her that after his wife died, so he was depressed and that is why he bought nina, saying that she was expensive but he was damn rich, this just shows that she was really a sex slave, and the sad thing is that the boy just knew that she was a maid, That is also why the chief gets angry whenever his son give gifts to nina because, it is kinda weird, disgusting and disturbing to see your son having love interest towards a slave whom you have sex whenever his son is outside busy collecting happiness for her... In the end Elaina knew that both of them would greatly suffer, to Nina who is a bird locked in a cage with no dignity and freedom, and for the boy just wants to give her the happiness that she deserves not knowing that she is a slave her father always play with... This anime. Is one of the darkest and saddest Animes I have ever seen besides attack on titan like each episode it gets darker and darker until like when she becomes an apprentice which like that is not really dark and sad but then like after that it is really sad…

I enjoyed the anime version much more. Elaina's thoughts on the story she read about the traveler and how she just wanted to make her wife happy by making her more depressed, explains in a subtle but clear way what will happen to the slave, namely that she will never be happy.
Elaina's journey is like our very own journey from childhood to adulthood. It's all sunshine and rainbows at first until it isn't.
ngl at a time when i saw the plot i thought the same and i was in the mood for watching something light which wont hurt my brain for a while so i started 2 anime i knew nothing about this and rezero and both turned ou to be nightmares

the anime skip a lot of additional info that novel readers will know example episode 3 plant scene the lost sister was so famous that her brother will lock her up because he is afraid that someone will take her sister from him so he lock her up for years until she escape then got victimize by parasite flower
Thanks for the warning now I know to avoid this anime like the plague. Not because it's a bad anime but because I am plagued with bouts of manic depression. Anyone who thinks Elaina should've intervened in the lives of others are either:
1. Ignorant
2. Didn't watch the first 2 episodes
3. Thinks all anime is about an overpowered protagonist and doesn't watch any other anime aside from isekai or magic highschool harem.

There is a difference between not saving someone at the cost of your own safety and leaving a little girl to be repeatedly raped (she was literally being raped seconds before they met) by a 'mayor' of a small village. Honestly, if that is the kind of character the protagonist is that's fine, but don't defend it like its a morally ambiguous decision. She could have easily 'kidnapped' that girl, and used her status to get her some small paying job far-far away.

The adventures of Elaina might be a little dark but but it shows all prospects of life(sadness and happiness) so basically the show is saying that life isn't always perfect. So the adventures of Elaina isn't trying to be dark it's just showing realism
This show really annoyed me because the MC acted like they were not effected whatsoever about what happened in ep 9 and just continues on her cheery way.
Then what do you want her to do?? She just travel and write her own story. If she keep feeling sad and feel pity for them, she would just turn in to a emo charater. And she promise her mother that she would stay out of people business, danger. There was nothing she could do more then moved on and follow her dream

@@Sam_Lumi My goodness. I do like the show, let me say that. And even if it's supposed to be an incoherent mosh pit of stories, the side characters go against that establishing that it is indeed a coherent story. I forgot her name, but the yuri witch is a reoccurring character, and she is noticeably different each time. Also some episodes show or hint to her development. As for Elaina, she gets zero development whatsoever, completely stoic, which was fine until episode 9. Anyone would be traumatized by what happened, yet she did nothing about it. This is of course if she didn't write about it in her journal, if she didn't then that counts as some sort of development, as that would tell she wants to forget it. But taking Elaina's character into consideration, she probably still wrote it.
I wish there was some change in how she acted in the later episodes, however subtle it was, because of how impactful episode 9 is on the watcher. She kinda feels dehumanized because there is no change in her character.
If the author intended to just have a random string of stories that had no coherency to each other, then why in the world did they develop the side characters.

YOUtobe recomended this to me and I must say this anime is realy good.
what i love about this series is that elaina is not obligated to "save" or help with the situation, which is quite realistic if you think about it.
despite elaina being incredibly talented at such a young age, her disposition towards these situations are quite realistic. being a travelling witch doesn't mean you're a savior or special of any sorts

I almost got what I expected from the show...what I got was that this young witch will see about everything, the pretty and the ugly stuff...some stuff she can fix, some stuff that's better to be left alone...that's why I love the murder episode because it's some serious stuff that can leave a huge impression on someone...what I did not expect however is the lack of world building...it's rather vague...I was hoping that the mc would explore cultures and traditions and even get some political stuff...the show does provide all of this but not as much as I'd hoped...this show is more like a collection of fables with their own lessons and reflections (at least that's what I think)...still enjoyable tho but man am I a sucker for some world building
