George Martin wrote the string arrangement on his own? Because of those strings, I find it hard not to put this on my number one favourite list of Beatles songs, I can’t really but anything that they’ve done instrumentally above this. It’s so nice to hear it isolated

Think of two dolphins swimming together synchronized, no think of the two dolphins add a starting point then going opposite directions And then sometimes meeting up a point and then breaking off into different directions and swimming different patterns again and then meeting up again.I’d be better off googling it and trying to understand my explanation LOL. George Martin was truly a genius when it came to the orchestral writing he did for the Beatles. I could sit and listen to a whole album’s worth of isolated orchestral overdubs from Beatles songs, you can hear so many things that you didn’t notice were there! (ie, the title indicates just horns and strings, but listening closely at around 2:36 there appears to be a bass clarinet playing a moving bass line. This is much more apparent when using high quality headphones)
honestly? its taste, exceptional taste, knowing what adds to a part, what makes it Whole, without being more whole than the thing that it intended to create in the first place, its a hard balance, I'm so unbelivably glad to only be listening to the beatles in my mid 20's and having this hyper analytic view of their music, for me the string sections, george martin just knew what sounded right and knew how to write it musically, insane to hear, let alone knowing the amount of effort to record this onto a 4 track tape machine
Keep in mind: The man who made this was a rather stiff, straight-edge, classically-trained musician who had to come up with a string arrangement for a drugged out song about being a Walrus, and he came up with this.
nope, it's 3:58 ff. when the horns go 🤪😜 like a bunch of elephants😂 but I also like the freaky cellos in 0:34 and in 2:44 and as well all the glissando-works in thirds all over the place; that's not an easy job to do, not even for the London Philharmonics ! I have a hard time calling the genius, but this one comes close 🔆 KUDOS Sir George ! RIP

Check out The Analogues. They have whole shows here on UA-cam. They play Beatles' records exactly as they released it. Needless to say it sometimes requires an orchestra's worth of musicians... but they do an exceptional job.

i’m so obsessed with how Martin’s sort of straight-laced attitude and incredible orchestral talent mixed with the whimsy and absurdity of this whole album makes I Am The Walrus sound like a full blown war anthem, like if all of Pepperland had actually gone to war with the Blue Meanies in Yellow Submarine.
My old CD in the 90's I realised I could play all my Beatles CD's isolated. Like a brand new song coming out of one speaker. Fascinating & exhilarating. Tried it with other artists. Didn't work. The Beatles recorded a different way in the 60's.
The Beatles owe so much to George Martin and his genius. I love the Beatles, but without George Martin's expertise their sound would have been much different.
They'd have remained a beat band and probably faded away after a few years without him being able to run neck and neck with their ideas. I've been listening to this for 40+ years - apart from going deaf and now only verbally communicating in cello - it's ferking mind blowing!

Maybe you can find the cleaned up, polished, remixed/re-edited version of Revolution Live that was used for Anthology? Minus the commentary from John that was so rudely used during the guitar solo, that is. :)
It was very standard at the time for music producers to claim a writing credit for a song they worked on, but even though in George Martin's case, it was THOROUGHLY deserved, he found the practice, which is still common today, distasteful, and did not request it. That's an absolute fortune he turned his back on!

I cant remember who's poem it was but my best guess is that it was a poem by T.S. ELLIOT? THATS A TOTAL JUST SHOT IN THE DARK SO DONT HOLD ME TO IT. PLEASE. But the songs structure was sound with just john and piano however (as seen in my other post re: this tune) Sir George Martin created a whole different animal with his top notch orchestration) along with the rest of the band and what we are left with is a song that i have listened to thousands of times and will enjoy for the rest of my life. -Ronald

Not to take anything away from the brilliant George Martin, but this is what every Beatles song would have sounded like if Jeff Lynn had been their producer.
This orchestral arrangment was not only produced but also composed by George Martin, it was too complex for any Beatle to have composed, they couldn't read or write music and they didnt know about counterpoint, orchestration etc PD: no offense but Jeff Lynn never did anything remotely as good and creative as this, the beatles with George Martin were a musical miracle, like Mozart and bach

It's called "Glissando". Used in a very free form in numerous spots in this epic composition.
