I'm from texas & my granny Griffin made them like her mother-in-law my great great grandma Griffin . They used real clabber from milk from the cow . Chicken eggs from their chickens & real lard . Now that is real old fashion . Only store bought products was flour , sugar , salt
Oh my sweet Lord!!! Those look amazing!!! My grandmother use to make teacakes for us. When she passed on in 1981 my mother kept making them. After my mother passed on in 1994 I began making them for my kids and my family.
THIS is the recipe I've been looking for. Not buttery, not too sweet, and not rolled out. My mother made these on rare occasions. She didn't have time to fiddle with mixers or rolling pins. I watched but never got her recipe, so thank you so much!

Well you & I would get along . You seem to be clean & picky . Both my grandmas & Mama & other family members were clean & very picky . When you folded clothes there could be no crease anywhere in anything .
No butter or margarine? Suspicious about the end taste. I make tea cakes that I don’t roll out and those look like they were placed too close together on the pan. ????

1 C Sugar + 2 Eggs + 2/3 C oil + 2 C self-rising flour + 1 tsp vanilla. Beat eggs. Add sugar, oil, vanilla. Mix well. Add flour slowly. Mix. Drop by spoonful on cookie sheet. Bake 400F 10-12 mins.
