- This video took a while to make, but I definitely think it was worth it. I was aiming to catalogue every beta or secret car in Driver 2; looking into how the cars changed between early screenshots and videos, the Driver 2 demo and the final version of the game. Hopefully I've done just that, though you never know, there may be something I've missed!
I want a new driver game sooo freaking bad. These games just have a certain flavor that GTA doesn't. The music was on point and I loved the driving physics, such a shame no one has picked up where they left off :(
I want one like the classics, though. None of this San Francisco, flying around out of body and shooting into people like a demon bullshit.
I loved 3 too. A trilogy refresh where you could switch between the aesthetics with a button press is what I'd love. I'd wanna see them remastered but I'd want the option to play with original graphics too.

I like driver becuz it feels like a 70s movie,like smokey and the bandit or maybe blues brother and bullitt,the tires screeching and the atmosphere,feels like the 70s
I haven't played this game, but I enjoyed your video. Is it possible in the future to slightly lower music and game volume when you speak? Sometimes they are too loud.
You should cover Driver 1/Driver 2 on your channel too.

Playing with glitches was so much fun back in the day. I remember playing it as a kid and falling through the roads and drowning! LOL
The grey Dodge Coronet esque car is in the final game. It's in a mission where it's in a weird roadblock along with 2 police cars and the flatbed truck. Funny enough, if you gently tap the police cars in the roadblock, you can actually get out of your car while they ram the car you hit them with. Mission 6: Get to the docks.
I love how in the trailer they still showed the school bus, with broken textures on the back, they just did not care and thought no one would notice or probably they didn't notice themselves and i'm over analysing a single school bus clip where it shows a broken texture on the back.
I still love that first Havana car. Those awesome tail lights and angry looking front.
Heh, I always thought it was a late fifties Dodge and sure enough, it is modeled after one.
And Mini Cooper with insanely speeds! Ram big ass car and that big car is dead but Mini Cooper? Nope! Few more rams to kill me! 😂

3:19 - This also comes in a Rare Yellow colour that I have only ever seen when you spawn the car from the menu as your starting car
5:27 - This car spawns in "To The Docks" in a Roadblock just after the tunnel
7:10 - Oddly enough, this also spawns in "To The Docks" but I cannot recreate it, I have just assumed it was my Emulator glitching
14:44 - This spawns on the missions (Bank Job, C4 Deal and the last mission in Las Vegas)
16:55 - Much like I mentioned earlier, I have seen this car spawn in the mission "Caine's Cash" I however again cannot recreate it and believe it might have been a glitch on my game.

14:29 - I found out that this car is used in "Driving Games - Survival - Las Vegas"
16:08 - This is used in "Driving Games - Gate Racing - Copacabana"
7:10 - This is used in "Driving Games - Quick Getaway - Necropolis de Colon"
5:27 - This is used in "Driving Games - Quick Getaway - Capitolio"
I truly believe that all these extra colour schemes do exist in the game and do spawn in missions only, but what missions and where they spawn is still unknown. After watching this video, I was certain I had seen some of these colours before, so I just spent 4 hours testing missions and locations and found the times above. What is really odd for me is 5:27's car. You get off the Ferry, drive through the tunnel and then if you keep heading straight, you run into a roadblock with 2 Police Cars, a Truck and the Grey Cadillac. And Although I couldn't find the other colours shown in this video, I reckon that if they are still in the code for the official release, they would be in a mission somewhere, since so many other hidden colours are used.
In To The Docks mission i spent many hours to find this 7:10 but nothing happened only see this 5:27 even this 8:59

Driver: San Francisco is even better with that, plus there are more cops that can chase you in the game, jamie swinburn.
i remenber a secret but some of you know as well in one of the missions in Havana there was a "secret" weather to play freely and you would turn it like Take a Ride whinch you ll have to go to the ferry area within time limit if you aproach the ferry when it says something like to "make a jump to the ferry" ( sorry been along time ) the timer disappears and dont jumping to the ferry just let the ferry go and dont worry the mission wont fail/restart ( it does of course but if you want to do the trick and turn it into Take a Ride mode so no prob ) then we could freely take a ride with a rainy weather as a secret weather :) btw its recomended those who never played to finish the mission 1st that once you finish and repeat you have more fun with the "secret" weather
I have an easier trick to getting rainy weather in Havana in Take a Ride.
Enter take a ride (vehicle doesn't matter), drive up to the intersection in front of you, get out and press circle in the very middle of the intersection (there should be spot that is lighter on the ground - that's roughly where you stand). Get back in your car, and as long as you drive that car around, it will stay raining.
THERE WAS A 2ND GEN F-BODY AND THEY CUT IT?!?!!?!

In the mission when you go to Rossana Soto from the ferry, after pass the tunnel you can find a barricade of cars (mostly police cars, one truck and one gray civic car), and one of them is the first gray car. If you go on foot to the police control you can entry in that car and drive it (obviously you just can do it in the mission and not in the "take a ride" mode.
Cool! I use to have so much fun playing this game when i was a kid. I re-bought Driver 1 and 2 about three years ago. The PS1 version of the game don't look that great compared to today's games but still a joy to play.
I think I’ve gotten the “purple” truck in Havana once with a friend of mine playing multiplayer. He had selected the truck and once the game loaded it was a gambled mess off pixels and colors including purple all over the car. I have never seen that since which was probably over 10 years ago at this point.
The main reason why I miss these old driver games is because they weren't afraid to explore different and more diverse locations. I mean, New york and Los angeles aren't the only cities in the world.
the car at 5:30 can be found in the same mission that the car at 9:35 can be found in. on one of the roads on the main land there is a police roadblock that is glitched with civilians instead of cops and that gray car in place of the cop car.

Thank you for bringing up these changes from the beta version and final game. It's part of the history of Driver 2. I read the review in the PlayStation magazine over and over again while sitting in a resturant with my family, just waiting to get home and play the demo. Then my parents got me the full game for Christmas. I can't count how many hours I spent with this game.
14:37 It wasn't, the only time you can use that colour sceme is in Vegas Survival mode.
A lot of texture mapping issues. When you would start out modeling, texturing would be quick and sometimes you would unwrap the models incorrectly and get some amount of garbled messes in the textures. Sometimes it's a geometry problem but mostly ends up being a thing with the UVs... And sometimes when you prototype these you mess up a little in the texture editing process, and then that trickles down to textures of other colors or similar kind when you raster edit these.
Anyway, LOVE that you did this video. I love learning about beta versions and alternates of games, even old favourites such as Driver 2.
Chicago secret car is Driver 1's beta car.
Driver 2 was my first ever PS game. The moment I unlocked Vegas n' Río were fascinating. Miss the good old days 😂

I wonder if the gray is just the default black and white texture and then they add color to it when generating the car. My guess it the reason why its not in game is that it looks drab.

I didn't work on this game, but I just want to say that I don't fully believe your theory of the Chicago secret car (The yellow Buick GSX) coming in another color scheme. The reason I say this is because the Chicago secret car is a slightly modified version of what was originally supposed to be Tanner's car during Miami in Driver 1. My evidence for this stems from the back of the original Driver's jewel case.
Compare this photo (oi40.tinypic.com/1z33020.jpg ) of the Chicago secret car and this photo (www.mobygames.com/images/covers/l/58726-driver-playstation-back-cover.jpg ) of the Driver 1 jewel case back cover. Notice the uncanny resemblance between the two cars, albeit with some slight modification? What Reflections most likely did was de-saturate the color scheme of Tanner's original car and modify the front to make it less obvious as to what it really is, even though it's still fairly obvious.

Subscribed! Watching some of your videos I learned many curiosities that I didn't know about Driver and Driver 2. Thanks for your videos! :) Maybe you've already noticed it, but if you select the pick-up for both players in Old Havana on Multiplayer - Take a ride mode, the second player's one will have an unusual color pattern. Also, it's pretty strange that they used different wheel rims for every city except for Havana. Havana cars have the same rims as the Chicago ones. But there is actually a unique version of the rims also for Havana cars and it can be seen on the Multiplayer - Take a ride mode (they probably forgot to remove it) making the cars lose their hubcaps. I don't know why they scrapped the unique design from the final version of the game, but it's cool to see all these ideas the developers came up with through the development of the game.
Really weird to see someone put so much effort into a video on a game that most people don't really care about. Personally, I enjoy the game, quite a bit more than I should really, but I also see the faults within it.

The school bus in Chicago is a playable car, however if i'm not mistaken during one of the mission where you follow a train, if you don't follow the line on the map you will pass a school bus on it is side, once you enter it you will be able to choose itat the free play

'Beta' tends to be a phrase used to describe something that was cut or changed before the final release of the game, as beta is the name of a development phase. So, a demo could be classed as a beta build of a game, though many things are locked or simply not included, to ensure people still bought the full game on release.

Hi Matt love your videos, but one quick question ? Why is the shadow of your dude messed up ? Looking at it I can kinda make out a guy with pale white skin. Just asking.
As i said in another video from his videos but for some other reason but i will say it again.
"He's using Emulator and to prove that just look at the buggy Player shadows, it means he used a plugins to improve graphics but it effected John Tanner's shadows as well other things."
I was playing this game on emulator for both pc and android and the same thing happened to what mattj155 had while playing because we both used HD Plugins.
