Man you are the only person that I watched that actually talked about the sticks. Thanks for the heads up. Would you say this chip performs better than the RK3566
You have to know this is the first review about RG35XX I find that double checked what they say to make sure it does not include self made conclusions said as truths. This is the definition of humble. Liked and followed, gratz and great job
Thanks for that! Im now going to my third H model, Didn't like in person the other colors that most reviewers have and sold the previous I got cause I fell in love with that white transparent. After Onion OS and Trimui OS is hard to think that this OS is great, but at least is servicable! A good grip tip is to use the silicon case, great texture and it fits great. Cheers from Brazil!
Having a blast, playing mine! Updated to the newest firmware yesterday. I don’t have any desire to change to something else at the moment. It’s also really cool that it supports rumble for GBA games like drill dozer.
I'm thinking of getting this, after purchasing the RG35XX. I wanted something that would work out of the box, with no modding needed. I think the OS on the RG35XX is just fine, and if this one has a better OS, that's just a bonus for me. I think people are just nitpicky on certain things, and really, it looks like it does everything you need it to do. I really wanted a horizontal system that would no break the bank and have the same reliability of the RG35XX, but with the upgrades in the RG35XX+.

I have the 405m and the screen isn't as nice as my 35xx, its not terrible or anything just not as bright or rich. Also have a 35xxh and that screen isn't as nice as the 35xx I have but that could be a quality control thing cuz the difference is minor. Still use the 35xx most though cuz of garlicOS and the screen that works in even the brightest sunlight. (Provided the game is not too dark)
I just bought this and I bought a separate sandisc 128gb fully loaded with Batocera and 10,000 games selected, no filler no duplicates. I can be a bit lazy with this stuff so I wanted to just have something I could put in to play straight away.
I ordered one this week. Looking forward to it arriving. I think the one system I won't use it for is probably DS. Will probably make use of all the others.
Some many reviewers get this wrong and I don’t get it. The screen protector does cover the screen. What it doesn’t cover is the black bezel around the actual screen. The protector is easy to apply once you eye up the actual screen. As of April there is a new 1.3 OS update. I got my RG35xxH last week with 1.1 Firmware on it. Debating on the OS to update it to.
Would this be a good starter retro handheld? I’ve been wanting to get into them, but thought they were way more expensive. Originally was going to order the previous model, but I prefer the style of the H. Thanks!
Thanks to your detailed review I realized that the XX H is not the handheld I was looking for. Analog is essential for the PS1 games I want to play (Medal of Honor and Resident Evil Survival).
Thanks for watching! Check out the PowKiddy RGB10 Max 3 (not pro). Widescreen but great controls and great analogs! Or RGB30, but that's a square screen.
I can’t wait for GarlicOS beta. It should turn this from being a good handheld into an AWESOME one. If you own an RG35XX H make sure you drop Black-Seraph a Patreon donation so that he makes it a priority to work on his custom firmware. It should be as good as OnionOS was for the Miyoo Mini, if not better. 😉
I hope Garlic continues and gets better and better, but I'm very skeptical that a closed-source one man software could compete with Onion. Nothing against Black Seraph, but Onion has gone from strength to strength with crazy speed. It's why the MM+ is still a number one device for me.
Thanks for the great review. I also have RG35XXH but my one can't connect with the bluetooth controller. May I know what's your brand/model of bluetooth controller?
Hi! I've tried 8BitDo Ultimate Wireless, FlyFigi Vader 3 Pro and Direwolf 2, and a Z01 (I think made by DSP). I'd recommend trying to connect using X-input mode if possible.
@reezeYT The Batocera custom firmware is the reason I'm thinking of purchasing one. I think there is now a final version of Batocera for the RG35XX H. I also want my RG35XX H to run video files, that's one of the reasons I want Batocera on it.
it's just these switch style sticks anbernic uses and I think most devices in this price range have them. (If they even have thumbsticks) Like from what i understand the retroid devices have better sticks but they're in a different price/performance class.
Is there a way to get the Colin mcrae and other race games to work on steering. Mine doesn't seem to allow the cars to turn but the sticks work perfect on other games.
I hope Anbernic fixes the cardinal snapping problem. It's a shame that for a device that gets so many things rights for its price, they decided to compromise in the driver department. I really want to think it's a small issue, but I'll probably resell mine and use the Smart Trimui Pro, or even the cheapo R36S.
I really can’t decide between this and the RGB30, which I know you really liked too. Which one would you pick if you were completely new to the retro scene?
Did you checkout that the huge deadzone of the analog is because the Stock OS was setup to be in this way? have you tried to run batocera or muOS to check if these huge deadzones are still in there?
So mine plays n64 just fine like it’s playable, but the ground textures look awful. They tend to jump or skip off the ground on Zelda and Mario 64. Idk if changing settings may help or something idk
Would different software help fix the joysticks or is it a hardware issue that would need different sticks entirely? One of the few things holding me back from getting this besides not being able to handle every PSP game.
It's possible but unlikely. Usually this is an issue with the actual hardware implementation of the sticks. That said, GammaOS fixed them on the 405M/V so maybe it's possible. Basically guaranteed that Anbernic won't fix it though.
