  • I've found sometimes that the best way to know where you're going is to take the first steps.
So it is here. As I walk along this bridge, the wet, aged wood creaking softly under my weight, I find a calmness that I've yet to feel since the beginning of all this. My movement forward seems to be taking me somewhere; the mist gently hugs me, but occasionally the sound of a bird or other wildlife drifts through.
I've lost my sense of time, but it feels like while before a particularly noticeable change to the scenery occurs. It does change though, and the light wanes due to a far-off sunset. I can begin to see further and further ahead until finally land greets me. My ship awaits me there on solid ground. But it's not this welcome sight that really causes my breath to catch; it's the scenery in the sky behind it.
Though it's night on this planet, space is absolutely lit up with a multitude of spheres. It's only now that I remember what I was originally flying to before this whole thing began: the Gathering of Worlds!
To say it's an event of epic proportions is complete understatement. Hundreds of worlds in this dimension (and even denizens of other dimensions) gather-literally gather-to put on this years-long extravaganza. There is celebration, mourning, planning, everything that goes into a unified existence amongst galaxies. It takes decades for these planets-yes, whole planets!-to travel the distance to this center location. But when they get here, they make it count. It's an incredible experience, and one I wouldn't miss for anything.
I realize my incredible luck. If ever there was a place to seek out information as to what has been going on, it is at this event!
My excitement only builds as I spot a very familiar planet in the sky, a world that I know so well but haven't seen in decades. There can be no better place to begin than there. I hop into my ship (oh, the comfort I've missed!) and set a flight path for that one of hundreds of spheres above me.
    I'm headed home.
