There's a Framing Table in the Drawers mod that lets you make most drawers or trims (you'd have to make them specifically for that purpose, can't just change already existing ones) look like anything you want.
That’s why I had to deviate from his play. When he started astral sorcery I was super pumped! Then he went botania and I thought he was gonna make new tools for mining...sad day. And then we’re back to old dire. Hopefully he will use something different to make power.
Same. Thought we were going to see some new stuff - like maybe using Astral Sorcery tools or at least more of Botania than the sash/magnet/pendant that he always gets. If he does canola I think I might be done for a while ... can’t bear to watch that again. Deep Resonance is the other build I’m dreading.
Oh and place just one oak Trim in each corners behind the drawers for connection instead of those massive abominations under the floor 😁 AND place a torch above each one to get rid of those two dark corners! Nice and invisible. Ninja style ))
Dire, if you're sick of spiders on your roof, what you can do is run an oak fence or a stone wall around the edge of your roof. The spiders get stuck under it and can't climb it.
eh, how often do you need blocks most of the time? Pretty sure that's all compacting drawers would give you for ingots (also pretty sure you'd get nothing different with actual ore blocks). Might make sense to have a few, eg. iron, redstone, coal but other than those...
No, you can't use compacting drawers in this kind of setup, because then the drawer reports all 3 sets of resources (blocks, ingots, nuggets) to the computer which mis-represents the amount of that resource available.
Compacting Drawers store the most when you are interested in Ingots or Nuggets. They store 16 stacks of the most dense object. Assuming the item is crafted as a 3x3, that gives you 144 stacks of ingots, and 1,296 stacks of nuggets. If you are storing something that crafts up in a 2x2 (like Glowstone), then you get 64 ingots and 256 nuggets respectively. All other full sized drawers come out to only 32 stacks total. They do occasionally cause some confusion with autocrafting due to reporting having all 3 types simultaneously (up to 3x what you actually have), but if you know about it and how your auto-crafting system reacts to that, it's not actually a problem. AE2 will realize the problem and not let you craft, though won't be able to show what you are missing; while RS will start crafting and run out of items part way through (which you could also do by just taking the items out of the system :p ).
Zadkiel343 That can happen every now and then, but I have personally never run out of any resource I bothered to store in a compacting drawer. The convenience of being able to craft with the blocks or nuggets without thinking about it outweighs the possibility of running out of resources for me.
Build 2 more columns of drawers on the end of each side - just not in the corners, you will still be able to access them easy! and put a couple of trims in the corners to connect all the drawers so you can get rid of the dangly ones on the roof in the room below. Oh, and make a drawer for glass. Edit - I see you added the end columns - but you can till connect the drawers with trims in the corners not below.
My favorite genre of Dire sentence is "tried to say something helpful, got sidetracked in the middle of the sentence and just described what was on his screen."
and now that you added that row of drawers, you can clean up the trim to just one block. I wonder if having a chain of trim like that affects the range of the controller, I feel like it does. like it's not a geographic range, so much as a chained range. and efficiency is key.
Only Dire could make make a "direwire" mess out of non-wire. :P As said - put trim in the corners. Oh and instead of using the single item draws, for stuff you won't have quite as much of us the 2x1 and 2x2 drawers.
I don't know if it's still the case, but in the past there was a problem using compacting drawers with this kind of setup, because the computer would 'see' all 3 types, so if you had, say, 9 iron bars in a compacting drawer, the computer would see 1 iron block AND 9 iron ingots AND 81 iron nuggets - then if you tried to craft a recipe that used, let's say 1 iron block and 3 iron ingots, it would think it had enough resources to complete the craft, but then not have enough and the crafting would get stuck. It's far better to just store them in a normal drawer and have recipes in the computer to craft to blocks and ingots - that way it can't get stuck.
If you wanted to take care of the lighting issue, add glowstone chisel n bits into the corners. Then you could add another level to the drawers at the top
possible suggestion - Add some 2x2 drawers to your system to have the bigger drawers free..things like the bliz rods and such, that you want quicker access to but will not need the large number of stacks that a full drawer provides.
Dire make an elevator line that goes through a middle of all your rooms! You have sh.t tones of ender pearls. Standing in storage room upper floor - just press Shift and here you are on machines floor. It's SO convenient! Build ur base more vertically. Hope it will be a nice change to try.
I'm still running my base on a single lava dynamo. Granted it's been upgraded a bit but you don't really need that much power to run an RS system -- at least not until you go nuts with setting up autocrafting.
I look forward to these videos, but today physically hurt to watch. Dire: *Needs two pieces of trim in corners Also Dire: *Uses 12 pieces of trim! Every episode, I’m baffled at his ability to overcomplicate the simplest of tasks.
First, lower that glowstone one brick, and there’ll be no dark spots. Second, put pillars framing the storage drawer array. That way it won’t be obvious there’s an empty spot behind it.
I thought it was a good episode. Remember guys his play throughs hel0 a lot of beginners. Anyone who is just getting into Nodded MC I always recommend DW20
Framed trim can be textured in the framing table to make it look like the floor... of course, if you're filling up the walls you could just put trim in the corners (ya know, the space where mobs can spawn) hiding them completely. "If you didn't lock the drawers and they were empty it would put whatever item gets imported in there" - oh, you mean like the grass? 😉
I am not as irritated as most by the repetitive nature of his early game, but ...at some point he said "we'll eventually build a cool canola system"*sigh*.If I never again see Actually Additions(mostly its sorting system and canola oil) or Deep Resonance again it will be too soon...
Dire at the tree farm change the drawer to crates and set two crate with whitelist for wood and apple and the threes crate will take saplings but you can't whitelist the saplings because you have already white listed them
Because drawers are better and cheaper for bulk storage, as he said in this very episode. And they still integrate nicely with RS and are easily upgradable.
I get it for some ressources but that many ? For some he didn't even have a stack and he should be able to stuff his system with 16k drives (or 4k which are practically free at this point). So a few for overabundant ressources, why not. That's not what we are talking about there.
The comments that I've seen about that though is that once you do that, you can't see what the contents are. I have not tried it myself so I can't say if that is true or just internet rumor.
Putting the oak trim like he did must be one of the ugliest ways he could have done it. Sure, it looks ok on the floor where the drawers are, but in the cellar it's ugly as fuck. Imagine if he had put oak trim down the corner of the building, then moved each of the side-drawers in one block. The trim would be invisible and the drawers would be connected.
#DireTrim Direwolf20 you could put trim in corners and add extra lines of drawers. And would you not use 1x2 drawer for mob drops and less used building blocks.
Metals and stuff, compacting ones, redstone too. You might be low on redstone though, so it's all good. But yeah, seriously consider compacting ones for your coal and stuff. Granted, it *does* look good, but the drawer types and trim layout needs to be changed, I think. You probably know already (I've seen you use trim in a good way), but I'm inputting my 2 cents. Have a good day
JEI is your friend and the manual is still there I believe. For the solar panels you need green crystals made from diamonds and other stuff. Idk what they were called.
Instead of running around making drawers , put the lot in refined storage and craft the wireless crafting grid - I've still not filled 2 x 16K storage disks , and no drawers cluttering the place !
1) He could still use the Wireless Crafting Grid with his drawer system. 2) Refined Storage is better at storing smaller amounts of a wide selection of items. For the cost and effort to set up, Storage Drawers is *far* better at storing bulk items.
For storing bulk items like what he worked on this episode, I'm using Black Hole Controllers from Industrial Foregoing. They work perfectly with AE2 storage buses. So 3 black hole controllers can store 2.1 billion each of 27 different world gen blocks or ingots. Not too shabby for a tiny block space. Bonus points for sticking all that in a compact machines dimension so it is even tinier. Might as well embrace the silliness in this pack!
Dire you should have put the trim in the corners so you wouldn't have had to use as much trim and you wouldn't need to use a painting machine to paint them if you had Ender IO.
Isn’t there a block similar to the drawer controller that acts like a router to connect two different drawer systems? If there is, Dire could have put that into the corners of the room and then put more drawers on the sides.
The oak trim is all that was needed ....but just one in each corner would do. The block you are thinking of when connected to the connected drawers can be used to connect to the external storage.
Why oh why don't Dire use a Quantity key on all these drawers?! I reeeally don't get it from the start of the series. Is it some kind of a religion thingy like a torches in a corners? =))
The *key* is needed once but the *information* on many drawers at once - is needed every time. Every. @@. Time. Logic hello? =)) And in order to save 2 (just two!) gold u r eager to run closer and target a drawer just to know if u have enough resources or not? Sure. It's a computer game. And not a harsh one. Not everyone can afford this level of luxury 😂 Jesus... Actually key is needed far more often than once but that is not the point.
Pretty sure that changed.... Once and done on the controller and your all good it updates every once and awhile. He doesn't use em most likely because it causes the blocks to update which causes some lag
Linerunner99 💬 The game does not force you to CHOOSE a probe OR a key. Why don't have both? For the wall of drawers it's very useful to see what's I'm low with - I don't remember every damn thing that I have when I drop in my base between mining, etc. This is an information. It's needed constantly. Not when I'm in the middle of crafting some huge ass recipe and - surprise! - find out that I'm low on smth. because I forgot about it.
oof, totally would have used Compacting Drawers instead, for the metals -- because A> you get all three items in one block (nuggets, ingots, and blocks) and the compression is automatic and costs no power. Additionally the refined storage/Ae2 system can access the drawer thru the drawer controller and draw on (and store) all three types within, so instead of taking up 3 types slots in AE2 disk, it takes up none, and you don't have to write patterns for converting between the three. i.e. AE2 + Storage Drawers w/ Compacting Drawers = bliss.
Hey Dire excellent episode keep up the good work. I totally appreciate how you take the time to do things in a not quite perfect/efficient/ideal manner. It makes an awful lot of us look good to our kids when we can correct you. lol Unfortunately there are a few to many that act like they are superior to you/everyone just because they don't get your trying to show how to use mods, not use specific mods in a perfect setting or create the perfect base/system/factory etc. Guys if we want perfection that's on us cause each person has a different perspective and there is no way Dire can please even the majority. So take what he offers and keep the hate to yourself! And to the others contributing positive input thanks I for one appreciate the ideas.
Frank Firth If he keeps doing the same thing over than 3 times I'd assume that at the 4th it would be perfect. Also, dire's old content was actually interesting, exploring new mods, rushing optimization, nowadays it's boring repetitions, like it's filler content and I and many more have the right to point it out. If there's a problem then fix it, don't be all optimistic pretending everything is fine
Hey chaps. i know im like a million years late. but got an issue. when i connect the external storage to the drawer controller its says im something like 2000% full..... its 63k/8.2k (not accurate lel) but yeah, i cant work it out. any help?
Manny G Trim can be hidden in the corners as well. Controller slaves are meant to work as a second drawer controller (assuming there already is a drawer controller present).
So many people complaining about the insane drawer trim job. I had to see for myself, and....wow, lol. Thats really something. Its true, idk if i could have made that any more inconvenient, haha. Noice!
Why are you even keeping the zombie meats? Why not solidified XP or regular seeds (for botania)? And I’m assuming you’ll get some drawers for the petals too?
Dire talked about that in the previous episode when he put in his grid. It's an option of the display and you can shut it off if you don't care for it.
tar is both ore directioned with slime balls and burnable, so you can use it as a secondary power supply - its not great but youre just wasting it otherwise
all those bows, sticks, flesh, bones and string that a mob farm generates...I use death generators and survivalist generators and just power the mob farm with that crap. you need to craft the string into wool and the bones into bone blocks but it's super worth it.
Now if only you had put the trim in the vertical corners. As is you will eventually have a mob spawn in those corners and are hampering the reach of your controller for no damn reason. :P
Really, you not only managed to watch a 34 minute 15 second video in the 12 minutes after it was uploaded AND you slept through it. You really are an exceptional human
The episode was just placing drawers and dire saying "cool?". I used the power of 1.25 speed and clicking past chunks to know the episode is a snoozefest without thoroughly watching it.
No, Oak means the material of the barrel. Also, if you look closeley, he hovers over two barrels, both saying Oak when he only had one barrel with logs in it.
Put trim in your corners, then it is hidden from the basement.
I wonder how long it will take Dire to realise grass blocks also went into an unlocked drawer during the import.
There's a Framing Table in the Drawers mod that lets you make most drawers or trims (you'd have to make them specifically for that purpose, can't just change already existing ones) look like anything you want.
Tomorrow - auto crafting; Wednesday - canola oil generation; Thursday - automating living wood and living rock; Friday - moving day
its sad and boring to know you are probably right
Vincent Frisina LOL, probably close.
That’s why I had to deviate from his play. When he started astral sorcery I was super pumped! Then he went botania and I thought he was gonna make new tools for mining...sad day. And then we’re back to old dire. Hopefully he will use something different to make power.

The illuminating wand works wonders by plasing glowing balls, a ball placed in the center of your rooms will light up the rest of the space
I'd love to see dire setting up his drawers in the shape of the Periodic table of elements.
Dire, if you're sick of spiders on your roof, what you can do is run an oak fence or a stone wall around the edge of your roof. The spiders get stuck under it and can't climb it.
Dire should use compacting drawers for the ores and stuff.....

put the "oak trim" in the hollow corners behind the drawers for a cleaner build :)

here i thought dire would make the compacting drawers for the metals
I don't know if it's still the case, but in the past there was a problem using compacting drawers with this kind of setup, because the computer would 'see' all 3 types, so if you had, say, 9 iron bars in a compacting drawer, the computer would see 1 iron block AND 9 iron ingots AND 81 iron nuggets - then if you tried to craft a recipe that used, let's say 1 iron block and 3 iron ingots, it would think it had enough resources to complete the craft, but then not have enough and the crafting would get stuck. true i did see that in the AoE series
can you upgrade those?
i never really used them cuz i didnt think you could
you can upgrade them
RS doesn't have that problem. That was AE2 that got it wrong.
Connect a large crate with a storage bus for the seeds. You can filter the bus. That will extend your storage a lot.
If you wanted to take care of the lighting issue, add glowstone chisel n bits into the corners. Then you could add another level to the drawers at the top
Do C&B glowstone bits actually light up an area? When you could microblock them they were good for discrete lighting.
You could make a moving wand to sling crates/chests around with their contents. Works for mob spawners and bee hives, too.
Mob spawners are black listed, hives may work but no real point as you only use them for the contents and you need to break them to get the bees
Well, the blaze and zombie spawners I have sitting in moving wands would like to protest...
Is that actually a thing? If so, I think a trip to the nether to steal a Blaze Spawner is coming for me soon
That trim placement made me laugh. The true power of DireWire.
possible suggestion - Add some 2x2 drawers to your system to have the bigger drawers free..things like the bliz rods and such, that you want quicker access to but will not need the large number of stacks that a full drawer provides.

all the interfaces inside all the direwire outside of this tower. Kinda DireTower 😅
Surprised a single dynamo is running dries whole base.
It's not even a passive one at that like tree oil, water mills, or enervation dynamo
I'm still running my base on a single lava dynamo. Granted it's been upgraded a bit but you don't really need that much power to run an RS system -- at least not until you go nuts with setting up autocrafting.
put dust gems and metals in compacting drawers on the other walls
Is there no up to date display add-on for Storage Drawers? Not being able to see the capacity of drawers until you hit it is really frustrating.
Craft a Quantifier Key. Then you click on it like you do the drawer key and it'll display the number of items.
Watch a creeper blowing up those drawers in 2-3 episodes and dire wondering where it came from...
That won't happen as he's claimed the chunks that his base is in. Explosions in claimed chunks will only damage the player and not blocks.
Thank You Direwolf20!
make your 9x9's out of drawers
That -- is a brilliant idea actually LOL
I look forward to these videos, but today physically hurt to watch.
Dire: *Needs two pieces of trim in corners
Also Dire: *Uses 12 pieces of trim!
Every episode, I’m baffled at his ability to overcomplicate the simplest of tasks.

Hey Direwolf Remove The Oak Trim From Beneath The Draws And Put Them In The Corners To Hide Them:)
I tried today, I really tried. I ended up stopping this episode 5 minutes in though. Waiting for tomorrow's episode.
I am not as irritated as most by the repetitive nature of his early game, but ...at some point he said "we'll eventually build a cool canola system"*sigh*.If I never again see Actually Additions(mostly its sorting system and canola oil) or Deep Resonance again it will be too soon...
Paraskevas Patsis As I was reading this comment, and agreeing, he said the canola system comment.
Couldn't you have just put the oak trim in the corner instead of underneath? I think that would have hid it better.
Is there a ender up grade for the storage drawers were you can acces items in more then one drawer? If so why don't you use it
Unless one was added recently, there isn't any kind of Ender upgrade in Storage Drawers.
It was from JABBA, not Storage Drawers.
Dire at the tree farm change the drawer to crates and set two crate with whitelist for wood and apple and the threes crate will take saplings but you can't whitelist the saplings because you have already white listed them
Also, you should see if Buildcraft, AE2 facades, or Forge Multiblock covers work.
You can use the tar as fuel in a different dynamo
Does anyone know if there are any good servers with the 1.12 pack yet?
Where does dire downloads his worlds??
Why drawers though ? Particularly when the last episode was about setting up refined storage.
That's not what we are talking about there.
you can re-skin the drawers and trim, you just have to make the correct item. it's like a "frame" or something.
Refined storage can just hold all the items. It counts the storage by the number of items rather than AE2's mass storage of a select few items.
where do i download the backup files that dire does?
Take a single bit of that glowstone and put it in the corners lol.
you should make drawers for tar and sulfur, just put them out of the way
framed trim/drawer with a framing table you can make em look like you want ^^
The comments that I've seen about that though is that once you do that, you can't see what the contents are. I have not tried it myself so I can't say if that is true or just internet rumor.
I highly suggest you use the Matearial Stonework Factory For Silicon, cause it just makes it for free.
Do you think you could do a magic SMP at some point?
#DireTrim
Direwolf20 you could put trim in corners and add extra lines of drawers. And would you not use 1x2 drawer for mob drops and less used building blocks.
Minecraft OCD: when you place drawers without needing them just to make the room look symetrical.
is botania based off of Terraria?
Metals and stuff, compacting ones, redstone too. You might be low on redstone though, so it's all good. But yeah, seriously consider compacting ones for your coal and stuff.
Granted, it *does* look good, but the drawer types and trim layout needs to be changed, I think. You probably know already (I've seen you use trim in a good way), but I'm inputting my 2 cents. Have a good day
Is Enviromental Tech playable at this point? I cant find any guide and i think the recipes changed.
The recipes have changed as they were fairly cheap for how op they are. It is now VERY diamond heavy for even the first tier of machines.
Do you know where to find the recipes?
JEI is your friend and the manual is still there I believe. For the solar panels you need green crystals made from diamonds and other stuff. Idk what they were called.
There is no manual that is the problem. I dont know what blocks i need for the structures.
Left click the controller with the assembler tells you what you need for the multiblock
Why not use the 2x2 drawers instead? They hold (4x emerald and 1x void upgrade) over 400 stacks. Should be more than plenty, even for you ;)
What size monitor do you have? I look small because of how everything lays out
the most used word in this episode was *"mooor drowr"*
=D
Instead of running around making drawers , put the lot in refined storage and craft the wireless crafting grid - I've still not filled 2 x 16K storage disks , and no drawers cluttering the place !

Why oh why don't Dire use a Quantity key on all these drawers?! I reeeally don't get it from the start of the series. Is it some kind of a religion thingy like a torches in a corners? =))
Because RS shows you those numbers without having to make an extra thing that you only use once.
The *key* is needed once but the *information* on many drawers at once - is needed every time. Every. @@. Time. Pretty sure that changed.... Once and done on the controller and your all good it updates every once and awhile. He doesn't use em most likely because it causes the blocks to update which causes some lag
Ummm... the one probe shows you the quantity of any inventory you're looking at. Literally like having a quantity key on EVERY chest you own.
Linerunner99 💬 The game does not force you to CHOOSE a probe OR a key. Why don't have both?

Unfortunately there are a few to many that act like they are superior to you/everyone just because they don't get your trying to show how to use mods, not use specific mods in a perfect setting or create the perfect base/system/factory etc.
Diretime? Diretime.
hay not sure if u seen it or not but spider eyes mobdrops
Hey chaps. i know im like a million years late. but got an issue. when i connect the external storage to the drawer controller its says im something like 2000% full..... its 63k/8.2k (not accurate lel) but yeah, i cant work it out. any help?
It thinks the drawers are in the system storage
Dire cant you just use drawer slaves
they work the same as trim but you can hide it in the corners
Manny G Trim can be hidden in the corners as well. Controller slaves are meant to work as a second drawer controller (assuming there already is a drawer controller present).
really
I did not know they acted as secondary controllers
the more you know
you can use trims in corners as well
So many people complaining about the insane drawer trim job. I had to see for myself, and....wow, lol. Thats really something. Its true, idk if i could have made that any more inconvenient, haha. Noice!
I know right?!? He has got to be punking us.
WHY WONT ITEMS GET OUT OF THE CRATE WHEN I HOOK IT UP TO THAT STUPID CONTROLLER GRID THING
Why are you even keeping the zombie meats? Why not solidified XP or regular seeds (for botania)? And I’m assuming you’ll get some drawers for the petals too?
He already does
Cant you use crates as external storage?
Yes but it’s as good as a barrel
What's with those tooltips that appear when u mouse over items in ur RS system that say number of items
Dire talked about that in the previous episode when he put in his grid. It's an option of the display and you can shut it off if you don't care for it.
Wow some people are all about Dire
tar is both ore directioned with slime balls and burnable, so you can use it as a secondary power supply - its not great but youre just wasting it otherwise
all those bows, sticks, flesh, bones and string that a mob farm generates...I use death generators and survivalist generators and just power the mob farm with that crap. you need to craft the string into wool and the bones into bone blocks but it's super worth it.
you just broke my mind
Waiting dire to craft infinite storage just with a nether star and destroy all of those drawers
Direeee .. words, no stuff :D
Now if only you had put the trim in the vertical corners. As is you will eventually have a mob spawn in those corners and are hampering the reach of your controller for no damn reason. :P
I'll use the key. Hit the controller
Please do not remove the drawer,it's look nice and don't make any other looking base, just do the dire way(9*9).
Bees?
I'm going to boop everyone.
This episode was a snooze fest. Also, reminder to do bees this season.
Really, you not only managed to watch a 34 minute 15 second video in the 12 minutes after it was uploaded AND you slept through it. You really are an exceptional human
The video's not over yet.
TurtleGalaxies because bees are non-snooze fest kind of episodes
The episode was just placing drawers and dire saying "cool?". I used the power of 1.25 speed and clicking past chunks to know the episode is a snoozefest without thoroughly watching it.
Exactly!
To bad the pack on Twitch doesn't match what is on the series... Missing lots of machines he is using.
Dire, fix all the cobble in the basement, it looks so bad, put something like stone at least.
I thought it was normal cobble... did he chisel it or something? Or do you mean smooth stone...?
FreeER atubeacct yeah, stone
yeah, let's carpet the unfinished basement. :D

Diretime
Stop using Canola oil every time dammit! There are other, cooler power systems at that tech level!
Dire is does say what is in it its oak 4:26its the top line
No, Oak means the material of the barrel. Also, if you look closeley, he hovers over two barrels, both saying Oak when he only had one barrel with logs in it.
#diresoundeffects :D
Ahhhhhmmm, coool, nice WTF??
Nice one Direwolf
