    And yet, Parnell and Michael Davitt each failed to fully grasp the potential of the ideas they acquired from Henry George. Getting the land into the hands of Irish citizens, eliminating (if possible) absentee landlordism, would not solve the problem of landed privilege. Only the public collection of the rents of land to pay for public goods and services, with the possibility of a citizens dividend of rents collected in excess of governmental needs.
