On September 26, 1972, as a 7-year-old orphan boy from South Korea, I didn’t what the future would be for me. In the poignant words, “On the boats and on the planes, they’re coming to America” has meaning for me as well as many others that arrived here. My “Ellis Island” was John F. Kennedy International Airport on board Northwest Airline Jet Originating at Kimpo, Seoul. Yes, my beloved country has faults and other things. I love her with all the imperfections! She opened doors for me, a stateless Amerasian Boy, that wasn’t even acknowledged by the South Korean Government. I was given my personhood and recognized for who I AM AND NOT WHAT ANCESTOR I HAVE! I was given legal recognition and proud to have become an American Citizen on April 7, 1978. When does someone ask who am I? I say AMERICAN and with no qualifiers. As a citizen, I joined the U.S. Army and served in 2 major wars (Gulf War-1991 and Iraq War-2004-2005) in Iraq. I rose up in rank because WHAT I COULD DO AND BE DAMNED ABOUT WHO WAS MY ANCESTOR! On April 15, 2018, for the first time in my life, I met my birth father in Ohio! With him were my birth half-sister, 2 paternal aunts, and cousin. My birth father's family knew I existed and only on February 23, 2018, I knew of their existence. I am in the land of my biological fathers-the USA! There isn’t anywhere in the world, I want to be and at the end of my life in the greatest place in the world- UNITED STATES OF AMERICA! SC Kang/ MAR-06-15-1965-R7793

This is one of the greatest songs about America ever written, but it does not talk about the legacy of establishing America as the great nation it is, the nation that people from all over the world want to come to. I’ve been a fan of Neil Diamond since the mid-60s. I absolutely love his voice and America is my favorite song. I agree with the sentiment of the song completely. However, we are a nation of laws and rules that all must obey. Consequently, my belief is that all immigrants must come to America legally. If you’re here legally than welcome aboard and good luck; I pray that you find what you are looking for. I read somewhere that Diamond’s father didn’t want him to become an entertainer, the father thought that he was wasting his life. The elderly gentleman in the audience, first appearing at 0:54 in the third row with his right hand to his chin is Diamond’s father. The most beautiful sequence occurs at 2:20 when the father looks around at this huge audience and realizes that they’re applauding and cheering FOR MY BOY! And then at 3:48 the father is clapping and clearing singing “today.” I love it.
I am so thankful to be an American! We need to stop today and think what it would mean to some foreigner's to come here, some people only dream of this life we have here! God Bless America!!
This is from "The Jazz Singer". That was a good movie, but the soundtrack is awesome!! Sir Laurence Olivier played his role well, and it was great to see him witness that his son was meant to be more than a cantor. I hope Neil continues to write music, and I pray that his Parkinson's doesn't stop him from singing.
This is a personal song for me; my Italian Fraternal Grandfather came from Italy, so this is a personal song for my dad as well for me:-). Well, mom too, because, she was awesome. it's us, it's our family, I LOVE IT!
I always listened to this song back home and I was inspired every day. I am glad I made it to America in 1982. Love this song and the country that welcomed me with open arms. I am blessed!!
I'm 43 and saw "Jazz Singer" the 1st time it came out at the movies with my parents. This song always wanted me to go to America since childhood because it gave me hope, but I"m still in South Africa....maybe one day....
Have you got the paperwork started? That's the first step. Remember in America dreams can come true. But you have to take that first step to get here. And you're never too old and it's never too late. It's good law-abiding people like you we need. But don't give up on the proper channels. What you start it will continue and eventually you will see that glorious lady standing in the harbor welcoming you with all the freedoms that come with her and all the dreams that she's held for Millions. It can happen you just have to believe. I believe in you! It's worth all the trouble time trials and paperwork but you eventually do get to the end of the rainbow!
Plz share! This is for Jimmy Aldaoud who was Iragi but born in Greece and came to America when he was 6 mths old. trumps admin deported Jimmy to Iraq a place he'd never been to,a language & culture he didn't know and he is now dead. He was as much American as any of us. RIP Jimmy, I'm sorry for what trumps America did
You left out the part where he had a long criminal record and was arrested for burglary. If he didn't commit crimes, he would very likely be alive today. And maybe blame Greece for refusing to take him even though he was born there.
A sort of sad thing today, 3/10/15. One of my all time favorite movies, Moscow on the Hudson was playing on a movie channel. I couldn't watch it. I'm just not ready to give up Robin Williams yet. Neil Diamond's song gives me some peace.
Neil Diamond is an inspirational singer in my opinion. His songs are all uplifting as well as just awesome. This song is just one of our Anthem Songs... I mean, it fits everyone and no one should call it their own... I believe he wrote it for everyone! All of us have ancestors which came from another land... even the American Indians's ancestors came across the Bearing Srait... (may have not spelled it correctly) but the point is, this song should be listened to by everyone from time to time to time toremind us.... "America is a very special place" in that we all strive to improve ourselves and deep down inside, we really care about everyone in the world and we have proven time and time again... we will return to our ancestors homeland to fight for their freedoms and liberties and we have proven millions of times - we will also die for them!
My family came to America in 1620 on the Christian pilgrim ship Mayflower. I love the America sayings, IN GOD WE TRUST, ONE NATION UNDER GOD, GOD BLESS AMERICA. I love Jesus, both Neil Diamond and Jesus are Jewish. Jesus is returning soon, in 2014 and 2015 there are 4 blood moons on Jewish feast days, hardly happened in last 500 years and when it did major events took place,
Jeff Theisen 911 was part of this, and the nation did not repent, 7 years later again the stock market crashed, use the Hebrew calendar and look for Sept 13 to 28, 2015 with a blood moon and the third 7 years. They are already talking of the GREAT CRASH of 2016 on the stock market. Jesus is coming very soon.
Your post was the reason to also add in the list "The Mayflower". A wonderful song by Jon Anderson and Vangelis. Greeting from the wonderful greece to the wonderful U.S.A. ua-cam.com/video/RIY-sV869u8/v-deo.html I truly wish better times for all the nations of the world.
This song gives me goose bumps and a lump in my throat everytime I hear it.Love Neil Diamond ,but this one just says it all about my country! Love HER or LEAVE HER! ♥
Neil Diamond (born in 1941) is celebrating his 77th birthday today January 24, 2018. He is one of America’s most enduring songwriters best known for his singalong hits “Sweet Caroline” and “Cracklin’ Rosie,” it was announced Monday that he has Parkinson’s disease, and is retiring from concert touring as a result of the diagnosis.
Timeless, I can listen, watch this video and even singing this song over and over and the fact it is one the greatest song from Neil Diamond, that it made me fan too...I love Neil Diamond!
Neil is the best. My generation grew up listening to him, just as the generation before us listened to Sinatra. Like Sinatra, Neil transcends the ages. His music will go on forever.
One of the most talented men on the planet. I choke up whenever I hear him sing this. He still has it at his age. A song for immigrants regardless of their religion.
I'm a thirty two year of Englishman and can honestly say - Neil Diamond metaphorically shits on the head of the likes of Elton John for sheer showmanship and talent. Neil Diamond is among my favourite artists and his back catalogue is unbelievable.
Brendon Carr I couldn't agree more Brendon! Yes, an excellent showman maybe not in the same league as the late Freddy Mercury or Prince, but a great showman nonetheless. Besides, is there and will we ever see again the likes of the great Freddy? Freddy Mercury remains THE most charismatic performer in the history of Rock and Roll, before his life was cut short aged just forty. Love On The Rocks is my favourite of Neil's, although to be honest, he could sing the Yellow Pages and I'd listen lol. All the best mate, Chris (UK).
Also, as you mentioned; Neil gets a bit of jip for maybe lacking the vocal acrobatics of some of his contemporaries. He may not be a Nat King Cole, Luther Vandross or 'Freddy', say, but David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Johnnie Cash, Mick Jagger or even Michael Jackson were/are classed as technically great singers, but their charisma and stage presence was/is the magic that made/makes them artists. Regards Brendon, Chris (UK).
The funny thing is, Neil Diamond is a stiff. He just stands there and belts out his songs. Neil has so much charisma and stage presence that he overcomes his singing voice, his awkward movement, and the corniness of his heartfelt lyrics to command the room. His appeal is at once inexplicable and undeniable and that is why I respect him as a showman. I mean, I'm not going to throw my underwear at him or anything, but he's one of the greats.
Germany, a once great nation, which refuses to recognize the Glory of her past. "Ich bin stolz! Your children shout! Their battle cry, Auslander Raus! Our life or death is in your hands, our great and ancient fatherland!" From the cd "Voices of Our Ancestors" By the band, BERSERKR
First of all, it's "Ausländer raus!" Second, Germany wasn't even a nation-state until 1871, so hardly ancient. Third, berserkr is a word in Old Norse, i.e. it's Scandinavian, not German. White "Aryan" "supremacists" are a hilariously self-refuting bunch.
My grandparents came to Ellis Island in 1910 from Italy. Thirty years later their only son, my father, graduated with a doctorate from Harvard. He became a College President. He has three sons, a lawyer, a doctor, and a minister. Only in America, the greatest country of all time
I served in the U.S.A.F. Pararescue ,for 16 years, alongside ALL immigrants some from Mexico, some from Africa, some from Israel some from Ireland ,some from England ...I think you get my point, and to all of my brothers in arms, both retired and in active duty I say thank you all for serving with me,for my country,my people, my freedom,my constitution.Do not forget that ,while we no longer wear the uniform of our prior service,we still are held to our original vow to protect our land, and our constitution from all enemies both foreign and domestic .
Amen sir and we all owe you and all the armed forces members a debt of gratitude for your service It is a shame that the younger generations do not understand
It's too bad, I just heard 6 days ago Neil Diamond announced that he would be cancelling the 2018 tour as he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and is hanging it up for all of his future live tours. :-( He was one of the very few I had decided I would go see in concert soon, however, between the greats such as himself , Pink Floyd and Tom Petty, IMy decision was made way too late and will never be able to see them due to their sicknesses, deaths, or just a retirement. It's unbelievable how many years he has toured, and performed with incredible success. God Bless Him & 50 Years Of Greatness !
I went to many concerts in my 63 yrs, 5 with Neil. 4 in San Diego (w/ his spinning stage) and 1 in L.A.(Greek Theater-which was the best! ) Always fantastic shows !! Truly The Jewish Elvis !!!
He sings about something deep inside I understand his passion I can see deep inside his soul cause I think we share the same deep inside that words will never express enough

Far
We've been traveling far
Without a home
But not without a star
Free
Only want to be free
We huddle close
Hang on to a dream
On the boats and on the planes
They're coming to America
Never looking back again
They're coming to America
Home, don't it seem so far away
Oh, we're traveling light today
In the eye of the storm
In the eye of the storm
Home, to a new and a shiny place
Make our bed, and we'll say our grace
Freedom's light burning warm
Freedom's light burning warm
Everywhere around the world
They're coming to America
Every time that flag's unfurled
They're coming to America
Got a dream to take them there
They're coming to America
Got a dream they've come to share
They're coming to America
They're coming to America
They're coming to America
They're coming to America
They're coming to America
Today, today, today, today, today
My country 'tis of thee
Today
Sweet land of liberty
Today
Of thee I sing
Today
Of thee I sing

Well, mom too, because, she was awesome. it's us, it's our family, I LOVE IT!
this remembers me and my sweetheart getting together luv ya xxx
I always listened to this song back home and I was inspired every day. I am glad I made it to America in 1982. Love this song and the country that welcomed me with open arms. I am blessed!!
Love Neil Diamond, He is Amazing Great Man.. God Bless Neil Diamond..
A very uplifting song makes you have hope
When I was onboard the U.S.S. America in the 80s we would play this over the 1MC after when we finished our UNREPs
.
Nobody is above the law. This is America 🇺🇸🇺🇸
A timeless classic sung by a great performer
Just saw The Jazz Singer for the first time a little while ago. Marvelous movie and score!
Plz share! This is for Jimmy Aldaoud who was Iragi but born in Greece and came to America when he was 6 mths old. trumps admin deported Jimmy to Iraq a place he'd never been to,a language & culture he didn't know and he is now dead. He was as much American as any of us. RIP Jimmy, I'm sorry for what trumps America did
My condolences to his family, that was cruel, please remember him at the voting booth
You left out the part where he had a long criminal record and was arrested for burglary. If he didn't commit crimes, he would very likely be alive today. And maybe blame Greece for refusing to take him even though he was born there.
Neil Diamond sings this song with so much emotion, that it touches everyone's heart who came to America from other countries
I'm not American but I was 13 years old the first time I heard this song until now still very excited
A sort of sad thing today, 3/10/15. One of my all time favorite movies, Moscow on the Hudson was playing on a movie channel. I couldn't watch it. I'm just not ready to give up Robin Williams yet. Neil Diamond's song gives me some peace.
But Neil powerful voice trails down my spine
Laying in the floor Groton CT experiencing Hot August Night, stereo surround system. The 70's!
Man I completely forgot about this song! What a great singer.
There are few things that warm my heart more than this videos as I watch the connection of the three of them. Love this song.
Jesus is returning soon, in 2014 and 2015 there are 4 blood moons on Jewish feast days, hardly happened in last 500 years and when it did major events took place,
That's interesting. What were the major events?
Jeff Theisen 911 was part of this, and the nation did not repent, 7 years later again the stock market crashed, use the Hebrew calendar and look for Sept 13 to 28, 2015 with a blood moon and the third 7 years. They are already talking of the GREAT CRASH of 2016 on the stock market. Jesus is coming very soon.
i guess jesus dint show up huh FAILED wait let me guess you got another year try something like 2020 sounds more real have a nice day
Your post was the reason to also add in the list "The Mayflower". A wonderful song by Jon Anderson and Vangelis. Greeting from the wonderful greece to the wonderful U.S.A.

I truly wish better times for all the nations of the world.
Went to his concert in Ottawa March7 /15 great performance still has a great voice keep it up.
Me and my grandma and the rest of our family love Neil Diamond
especially his good singing voice
What an amazing guy :)
This song cant be loud enough. Humanly impossible. More IN YOUR FACE in the monitor. Neil is killing it. Here... With America.
I love America, This is a Christian nation and I love Jesus, the King and Lord of America.
I still love this film after all this time. Wonderful soundtrack.
I LOVE AMERICA, GOD BLESS AMERICA!!
I'm a thirty two year of Englishman and can honestly say - Neil Diamond metaphorically shits on the head of the likes of Elton John for sheer showmanship and talent. Neil Diamond is among my favourite artists and his back catalogue is unbelievable.
Neil Diamond gets short shrift because he's not much of a singer. But he's one hell of a songwriter, and puts on a great show.
All the best mate,
Chris (UK).
Regards Brendon,
Chris (UK).
*were 'not' technically great singers..
Nobody could use a flourish quite like the Diamond.
he is the best of all time and i listen to his songs since i were 13 years old
I remember when we went to the show to see this movie The Jazz Singer when he sang this and everybody at the end of the movie stood up and clapped
love this song...they're coming to America...WELCOME! Please, share those dreams!
There will never be another Neil diamond .
We huddle close and hold on to a dream. Happy Independence day 2018
I like this Song and I'm from Germany.
Germany, a once great nation, which refuses to recognize the Glory of her past.
"Ich bin stolz! Your children shout! Their battle cry, Auslander Raus! Our life or death is in your hands, our great and ancient fatherland!"
From the cd "Voices of Our Ancestors"
By the band, BERSERKR
+aryanson - Well, I guess that's the kind of ignorant crap one should expect from someone with your username.
Halt endlich die Klappe!
Now I have to go & see if they have this movie on DVD. I remember it like it was yesterday. Thanks for posting :)
My grandparents came to Ellis Island in 1910 from Italy. Thirty years later their only son, my father, graduated with a doctorate from Harvard. He became a College President. He has three sons, a lawyer, a doctor, and a minister. Only in America, the greatest country of all time
The glory days of the land of opportunity are long gone. Time to take your it back from the corrupt, misguided, greedy, self-serving government.
I'm not afraid to say it either......
Execent👏👏
THIS, Neil, is one if the ALL TIME great contemporary songs---(They're coming to) AMERICA!!!!!
Man with the Golden Voice
LOVE THIS WHOLE CD, AND LOVE THE MOVIE JAZZ SINGER TOO!!
Love this song and grown up with this, cannot beat Neil diamond such a talented man,xxx
Neil Diamond is the best and always will be!!
This song makes me proud to be an American.
i could watch this film every day of the week i have seen neil diamond live twice he is just brilliant live
Neil had sooooo many great hits, but this is by far my favorite!!

The maestro is in the house!!!
This song has renewed relevance in 2018
You made it Jess Robin, and so did Neil Diamond. Great movie and personal to many.
So inspirational!
This should be our national anthem how could you not dig Neil?
He sings about something deep inside I understand his passion I can see deep inside his soul cause I think we share the same deep inside that words will never express enough
One of the greatest
