The darkling is sooooo difficult because I want to put him in 'deserved better' just for that final scene where he asks her to say his name (god! I'm still not over this), and then asks her not to leave him. But then the other part of me comes out that has a conscience and needs to stop excusing men out of terrible behavior just because they are hot and once in a while have emotionally vulnerable moments.

Honestly yes! And the only time we got a little bit of the soft side was with Alina. But I also have to remember that he had his bad times and was evil a lot of the times. :(
What I love about Mr.Darcy is that when called out on his behaviour, he actually goes back and does the work to become a better person. And he doesn't ever force Lizzie; he makes it very clear that if she says no, he will be 'silenced forever' like ahahahahhahahahhaha🥰
Cari placing Draco Malfoy in 'Deserved Better'?? We have no choice but to stan harder!!! 😍 Honestly, it frustrates me how JKR did Draco so dirty in the books. Thank goodness for fanfiction authors who are able to give Draco the redemption arc he so rightly deserved in their stories 😅
Kaz is honestly one of my favourite characters of all time. While I do recognise that he did some questionable things in the books, I couldn't help but sympathize with his character because of the absolutely horrid things he experienced as a child. I also think that he had to maintain his cruel facade just to survive. I think inherently he is a good person and really does care about his friends even though he may not express it very overtly. Really enjoyed this video though :)
Kaz is in the love category for me but I recognize that he's...problematic. Draco definitely deserved better. That's why I've read thousands if not more fics with Draco redemption arcs. The Raven Cycle books were a torture to read (the author's writing is very unique...it works for some. for me it was really out there and took me out of the story), but I did it anyway for Ronan & Adam.
i just felt like my book was missing pages or something haha but i've been told the series makes more sense as a whole so i will give the next books a try! and seriously, malfoy just breaks my heart
I honestly think cardan was so bad in the first book because we were seeing everything from judes eyes and Jude HATED cardan. Like he was obviously reallt bad in the first book but there was probably a ton of stuff we missed regarding growth because Jude didn’t recognize it either. Also notice how Jude started seeing the charming and kind and funny side of him once she stopped hating him as much? He could’ve always been that way but she just missed it because of how much she hates him. (ALSO I am NOT a first book Cardan apologist, he was AWFUL, I just love second and third book cardan and feel like there had to be some explanation of the way he changed so quickly)
Yeah I just can’t excuse his bullying behaviour because of his traumatic behaviour, like I get it why the way he is, I just can’t forgive him for the bullying.
I think the reason he changed is because his family got killed and everything went basically bonkers? I like him in the after-bully phase, like Draco in the sixth and seventh books
A bit late to the comments BUT I'm so so soooo sorry that you had to read After! I'm a One Direction fan and I was in the fandom already at the time it was being written (the fanfiction). I remember that there was certainly a big portion of the fandom that enjoyed it and actually looked forward to new updates but It never appealed to me because of how abusive Hardin's character sounded. And don't get me wrong, I'm all for fanfiction, I like reading it, so it's not even about "oh they portrayed Harry as x y z" but more about the toxic ideas it reinforced to (mostly) teenage girls. Thank you for this space to rant haha hadn't talked about that in a while. Loved the video, Cari!
Thank you! And yeah it was really really not good especially for younger people reading it thinking this is ok behavior. But on top of that, how could she do harry dirty like that?! He’d NEVER!!!!
@@caricanread ahhh ikr ?? i'm also in the one direction fandom, and i have no idea how people write fanfiction like that ?? like harry would nEVER,, why would they make him such a dark character and scarily straight and nononono ??? there is some great fanfiction in the fandom (young & beautiful is such an amazing fic, it's by velvetoscar on ao3, it's so beautiful, and SUCH a hUGE difference to the after ones), but holy shit, this fanfic was HORRIBLE. wtf ?!?!! harry would never want to be portrayed like that ?!
I remember reading after back in high school when it wasn't even made into a book yet and not realizing just how manipulative Hardin's character is... like I tried reading the fanfic again years later in college just to remember what happened and I was APPALLED!!! Like???? For some reason when I was 17 I didn't realize just how horrible and abusive their relationship was its CRAZY.
@@bloomwiththestars I think it's actually a widespread opinion. It doesn't take away from the fact that they are important pieces of literature, just that they really should not be read by teens as "romantic" novels.
I’m notoriously known by my friends to like bad boys (*cough cough* Will Herondale, *cough cough*) so for me, Kaz is top tier I love him I stan him I cannot get enough of Kaz Brekker.
the fact that hardin is right beside cardan does not sit right with me, cardan redeems himself and deserves better HE DESERVES TO BE HIGHER THAN THE DARKLING KJDSHKDHJKHSD
I never really found Mr Darcy annoying. Petty, arrogant, proud, yes. But also, he is very humble and kind, sweet and lovable once you understand he is just complex and deep.
Even though you are discussing characters I do not know and books I have not read, I enjoyed this video so much and am now going to have to add a lot more to my reading list. I’m really excited you’ve decided to make this channel!!
I am absolutely LIVING for your book content. And agree 100% on Kaz , I think Leigh does a superb job at giving us very complex characters - we see them do bad things but we understand them.
I DID NOT know Ben Barns (Prince Caspian and Dorian Gray) was about to play the darkling!!!! WOW off to read and binge all his films I go! He also played Dominic Coopers role in the West End version of History Boys! I’m done fangirling. Thanks for this Cari!
Diana Wynne Jones was an astounding author and all of her books are amazing. Yet the trilogy World of Howl is something that out of all of her books I've read so far stayed in my heart the most. Story of Sophie, Calcifer, Howl and of the kingdoms we visit throughout the three books are so well written and imaginative I couldn't stop reading for hours on end. Any time I'm talking with someone and he mentions the Studio Ghibli movie Howl's moving castle (Or Castle in the sky which is how it's called in the country I live in), I always recommend the books. I mean, there is so much more to the characters than meets the eye! Howl's moving castle is the first book and probably the loveliest. Then the second book Castle in the air, then the third House of many ways. Man I loved those books. :D
Yes love her books so much but barely see her anywhere! Love that Howl was included in this vid - have to say Dogsbody and Dark Lord of Derkholm might be up there as favourites of hers tho alongside these ones
I also absolutely love the book and the other two are on my TBR. Castle in the Sky is actually a different Ghibli film and I heard somewhere that Diana Wynne Jones was inspired by some parts of that movie for Castle in the Air but I may be wrong. But to me that idea of people just continuously inspiring each other is lovely.
Have you read The infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare?? It's the spin-off (kinda prequel) series of The Mortal Instuments that takes place in Victorian era London. Can't recommend it enough!! For me it might be even better that city of bones and the rest of the series. It has the most devastatingly beautiful love triangle (and I usually don't love that trope in books!).
I didn’t know there were more to the series until about a month ago lol!! I just finished Chain if Gold so I think I need to get back into the Shadow Hunter world 😈
Will Herondale is *chef's kiss*. Dry wit? Brooding angst? Tortured soul? Book worm? I THINK YES. All 3 of the main characters are magnificent in their own right, and their love triangle is my favorite in any of the YA novels I've ever read. Definitely give 'em a read, Cari!
I feel like even the good boys of fiction need therapy. Once my friend and I were talking about The Selection and she said “I ship Maxon with America but I also ship Maxon with therapy” 😂
I'm commenting this video 2 months later because thanks to you and this video, I read Shades of Magic, finished the Grisha trilogy and Six of Crows and it was *chef kiss* Absolutely loved all those books! Also, I may or may not be in love with Kell and, shamely, Kaz. And like you, Holland breaks my heart, he deserves so much better
I don’t understand Hardin’s character ... he realizes that what he is doing is wrong but still acts that way ... after a relationship with him I would need so much therapy ... I couldn’t finish the series because it got too crazy and heavy
You should totally give the Raven Cycle another go. I LOVE IT! It is very character focused and in the following books you learn so much about the inner workings of all these really complex humans. There is even a whole book from Ronan’s POV which if I’m honest I wasn’t initially very interested in but it was really really enjoyable. I’m not sure if you’re more of a character driven or plot driven reader because it for sure isn’t some people’s cup of tea. But I think you’ll enjoy it. The world building creates a setting that is so whimsical and also jarringly realistic at the same time. Read it in middle school/high school and it has stayed with me since! I think your rating for Ronan will for sure change if you continue the series. Love this channel and find it so interesting to hear other people’s opinions! Really happy you decided to make it so I can feed my book addiction!
No Throne of Glass characters? I’d definitely put Lorcan at the 😘 level. I would like to see this video but with all the good guys, I’d put Cassian from ACOTAR way up top. 😁
A year too late but omg am I the only one who actually loves Lorcan lol? I am ready to reread Kingdom of Ash just to see Elide and Lorcan's banter again. 🤭
I just discovered your channel a couple of days ago and I've absolutely been binging your videos. It's been so interesting to see just how similarly we feel about some books and how drastically different about others. Cardan and Hardin going in the lowest tier cracked me up, because that is not where I would put either of them. It's always very jarring for me when BookTubers bring up the AFTER series' fan-fic past because I tend to forget that was ever a thing. I discovered and read the books as published works. To me, that series has always just been a crazy accurate, epically messed up modern-day re-telling of Dangerous Liaisons, (a book that has a part of my soul in its mits,) with a Wuthering Heights and Pride and Prejudice twist. While everything you said about the character is true and valid, I can't imagine a dark, contemporary re-imagining of Sebastian Valmont being any way other than how Hardin is. It's one of those stories and characters that isn't easy for everyone to stomach, but it's quite literally supposed to be that way.
LOL the author for Harry Potter in your description... Love it! Middle school made my love for reading go down the drain due to all of the forced reading requirements, but your videos have introduced me to so many cool books! Happy to love reading again after a 10 year hatred! This was a really fun video!!!
I totally forgot about the after series, but THANK YOU for saying that! During the hype of it I nearly never saw a review acknowledging how terrible Hardin is, everyone seemed to just mindlessly praise those books.
I’m actually glad I’m not the only one who feels the same about Cardan, I agree with your opinion 100%. I started the Cruel Prince through booktok and I actually had to stop 1/4 of the way through because the way they were bullying her just felt weird because on booktok so many people love and praise Cardan and I remember thinking .. “am I reading the same book??” Anyways, I decided to pick it back up again this year and finish the series and it was like ..just okay imo. I agree that I feel Holly didn’t give him a good enough redemption arc that made me want to look past his “bad boy ways”. He was almost too cruel and then his redemption arc was like .. mediocre at best. He was just existing. Like what did he do that made him so good after? Did I miss something ? I still enjoyed the book but for as much as it was hyped up, I was a bit disappointed.
honestly, I don't read books, I've never read any of the books you talked about but it makes me weirdly happy seeing you fangirl over books, I could watch you rant/fangirl over any book and never be bored
I know that this is just her opinion but she shouldn’t have put Cardan on the bottom saying that he let his friends drug the girl he loved and made them strip here, and then just put Rhysand on the top when in the first book he did the same thing. He drugged feyre himself made her kiss random people. Both of them changed in the later books, Rhysand also hid medical information from Feyre. She was going to die and he didn’t even tell her!
I think the reasoning behind the drugging though is wildly different! Cardan’s was simply to torment. Rhysand was to help lessen trauma. And this was before i read the mess of a book the is a court of silver flames lol 💀
I just finished reading the Shades of Magic series and my goodness. Holland. The wound is still so fresh for this. He deserved the whole world! It was so heart-wrenching to read his ending, especially after we learned so much about what he had went through. I still can’t get over it. 🥺
Ok to be honest, I agreed with most of these except Cardan. I agree he did some sketchy stuff, but you also get a lot better of a feel for his character in books 2-3, and you understand that he definitely deserved better. Also like so much of his life is dictated by court politics and the fact that if he shows happiness or affection toward anything, it can and will be used against him to hurt him.
Thank you for adding Alucard!! I love that idiot magician pirate (whoops, sorry, I mean privateer) and Kell’s intense dislike for him is just hilarious. The Darker Shade of Magic series needs more appreciation all around - it’s brilliantly written, and I just adore all the main characters and rich, detailed settings!
this video was so fun to watch! i loved hearing all your takes, very soothing and entertaining to watch while i kneaded bread dough. i was wondering why you put cardan in the nope category because of the whole drugging jude and being an allover asshole to her but then not rhys when he also drugged feyre under the mountain in acotar? i've seen a lot of people say that was different because he wasn't trying to hurt her but trying to make it so she wouldn't remember what happened but isn't that still bad? just wondering what your take on this is. but yeah i loved this video! it would be so cool if you did one ranking heroines or sidekicks or any other character trope!
I was so happy when you put Alucard in top and Cardan in the bottom bc I agree completely. Also Holland breaks my heart as well, i knew what was gonna happen to him the moment we met him but i still cried a little bit. I loved Alucard and could not stand cardan’s behavior and how much everyone loves him and shrugs it off. I loved shades of magic! Great video!
you know what. now that I'm looking at it, you kind of remind me of clary fray from mortal instruments. loved this and just subbed. I've actually enjoyed this a lot! also vicious sounds like a series I desperately need to read now. Loved this!
3:24 the fact that holly black actually wrote a book about cardan’s childhood and also added carden’s letters to jude in the last book is the best thing everrr🥹
im glad im not the only one who feels a bit iffy about fanfiction about real life people... it's so normalized in fandoms and i always feel so uncomfortable 😭😭
Regarding the After serie, I didn't read the fan fiction nor see the movie but i have read all the books. As the story unfolds you get more information about the character's childhood and events from his past. I don't have knowledge or experience about that kind of situations but i can understand he didn't know how to get over them in a good way. At the same time, during the whole story it is interesting to see how he becomes more self aware and changes into a reasonable human being. I enjoyed watching your video and cannot wait for new books to look into. All the best! 😊
Thanks! But I think the things that he does to Tessa is actual abuse and it’s told as if its some wild romance. I dont want people reading that and wanting that kind of relationship 🤢
@@caricanread I agree with that. What i wanted to point out is that there is more to his character and he eventually understands what he is doing and corrects himself. But that hapens in the later books. Therefore, in my opinion, people who are captivated by this story in any way should read the whole serie in order to get to know the characters in different points and situations of their life and how they get through it.
I just finished darker shade of magic and I need to reread it just to hug holland 💔💔 I also only read the after fanfiction and it was soo problematic I cant even watch the movie 🤢
Yeah my poor bby 😭🙏 and they changed the story SO much to make the film watchable that it’s practically a different story lol i cant believe that fic got a proper book deal 🤢
watching this as cardan as my fav bad boy :0 i read cardan's pov book and it helps a lot, i agree that he needed more time to show his chracter growth but i really love his character lol. also draco really did not deserve better i mean he was never abused, he was over pampered if anything. he might have been encouraged to be a death eater but thats on him and he never redeemed himself. how is rhysand and darkles gonna beat him tho 😩😩
Was looking for this comment. Draco was such a toxic bully and ppl are obsessed with him? I never got it. Somehow so many people forget all the terrible things he did, like calling Hermione what is considered a slur in the Wizarding World on multiple occasions. I'm glad to see at least someone remembers his actual character
Though I think Draco eventually did redeem himself in the last book? We don't get to see a lot of him redeeming himself because, well, that's the last book, but I think after the sixth year he began to reanalyse his actions and everything. I think he became a better person after that, but again, we don't see it since the series is over
Darn it Cari!!! I used to be really into YA and I've read several of these books over 5 years ago tho I stopped reading since I started college.... but since the start of this channel I've been thinking I'm going to have to re-read them and start up my reading hobby again. Ahhh! 😂
I personally love howl because of all the other ghibli movies protagonists I've seen so far, he's the most flawed and real to me. I love how he started as a superficial and cowardly man and grew so much as a character

Oh Cari! Have you ever read the Shatter me series by Tahereh Mafi? I feel like this series is so unknown but it's one of the best ones I've ever read! Her writing style is so poetic and the story itself is really unique. And based on the books you read I think you might like them ☺️
cari can read oh i LOVED it loool we had to read it in english class and my teacher was really good at pointing all the objectively hilarious things that happen (like raskolnikov regularly wandering the city looking high and passing out into bushes). truly the og bad boy
What an icon like Dostoyevsky was trying to comment on morality but instead Raskolnikov is just the original hot mess(tm) and honestly that says just as much lmao
My god thank you for this list haha! You have to read The Mirror Visitor from Christelle Dabos! It's such a good series of books. Originally in French but it has been translated :)
Malfoy had so much potential that a thousand of fan fiction were created around him. I was not particularly interested by ff but it turned out MANACLED became one of my favorite books of all times. That being said, considering what I guessed you liked based on your opinion about cardan and Locke, I believe other malfoy fan fictions would suit you better (the fallout, love and other misfortunes, the disappearances of Draco Malfoy, The Auction…) TW manacled is one of the darkest book I’ve ever read -and I’ve read many dark romances-. To anyone reading this please be aware and read the trigger warnings before if you wish to *put yourself in the most horrifying situation as Granger *. And I’m jealous to anyone of you who will read it for the first time.

i just felt like my book was missing pages or something haha but i've been told the series makes more sense as a whole so i will give the next books a try! and seriously, malfoy just breaks my heart
Can you recommend some good Draco fics?
Yesss- also second and specially third book we see how he redeems himself! And he explains it
I think the reason he changed is because his family got killed and everything went basically bonkers?
@@caricanread ahhh ikr ?? i'm also in the one direction fandom, and i have no idea how people write fanfiction like that ?? like harry would nEVER,, why would they make him such a dark character and scarily straight and nononono ??? there is some great fanfiction in the fandom (young & beautiful is such an amazing fic, it's by velvetoscar on ao3, it's so beautiful, and SUCH a hUGE difference to the after ones), but holy shit, this fanfic was HORRIBLE. wtf ?!?!! harry would never want to be portrayed like that ?!
malfoy had soooo much wasted potential thank u. i haven’t read any ya fantasy but ur vids are starting to suck me in to the potential
he really was :'( and hehehe sorry not sorry!
The whole bet situation and the blanket threw me so far over the edge omg truly disgusting 🤢
This is how I feel about Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre.
@@insulaarachnid I am so grateful to read your comment. I truly thought I was alone in the world with this opinion. 😂🙏🏻
I came here for Kaz and Kaz only, but I did enjoy everything else
the fact that hardin is right beside cardan does not sit right with me, cardan redeems himself and deserves better HE DESERVES TO BE HIGHER THAN THE DARKLING KJDSHKDHJKHSD
YEAH IF YOU READ THE CARDAN NOVELLA. *SIGH* POOR CARDAN
Ikr I LOVE HIMMM 😭😭😭😭
IKR HARDAN IS TRASH AND CARDAN IS SO MUCH MORE COMPLEX
he was rewarded as a child for being cruel aaaaa
I felt personally attacked when she did that 🥺
I never really found Mr Darcy annoying.
Hehehe thank you! Definitely recommend any book/series i mentioned in this 💕
I am absolutely LIVING for your book content. And agree 100% on Kaz , I think Leigh does a superb job at giving us very complex characters - we see them do bad things but we understand them.
thank you and YES!
Yes, Howl! A dramatic yet lovable king. lol
👏👏👏
i mean he's not really a 'bad boy' but like he's a bit jerkish, WILL HERONDALE belongs in the love :)
YESSSSSSSSS BIG YESSS. LOVE MY BOY WILL 💕
definite yess
ma demon-pox-dancing boii
I DID NOT know Ben Barns (Prince Caspian and Dorian Gray) was about to play the darkling!!!! WOW off to read and binge all his films I go! He also played Dominic Coopers role in the West End version of History Boys! I’m done fangirling. Thanks for this Cari!
Yep we’re in trouble with this Netflix adaptation hahah the cast looks incredible!
omg cari!! this is THE content, just made my evening a lot better 💞
😭🙏🔥
Castle in the Sky isn't Howl's Moving Castle. It's literally a different movie that is also done by Studio Ghibli.
I just finished Chain if Gold so I think I need to get back into the Shadow Hunter world 😈
I recommended these previously too!!! Then we can see Will Herondale on a new version of this list in the future 😍
the infernal devices is my fave trilogy from the shadowhunter series i just love the 3 main characters soo much
Will Herondale is *chef's kiss*. Dry wit? Brooding angst? Tortured soul? Book worm? I THINK YES. All 3 of the main characters are magnificent in their own right, and their love triangle is my favorite in any of the YA novels I've ever read. Definitely give 'em a read, Cari!
Rhysand and Jace will forever give me all the feels!! Harry Potter by Daniel Radcliffe KILLED ME😂
Top tier always! And 😂😂
I feel like even the good boys of fiction need therapy.
YES OMG THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY
I don’t understand Hardin’s character ... he realizes that what he is doing is wrong but still acts that way ... after a relationship with him I would need so much therapy ... I couldn’t finish the series because it got too crazy and heavy
Me neither! I kept reading to see how bad it could get and then it got way too bad 🤢
Once you reach the part with Steph, you will fully stop functioning all together
Sad that Maven from Red Queen is not on this list
I didnt have time to read red queen before filming 😭
pls i have the biggest love hate relationship with maven (cal is definitely still my favourite though)
Ohhhh now im intrigued 😈😈😈
…… Kaz pulling out the eyeball is my favorite part of the entire series……….
...
The thumbnail for this video is a MASTERPIECE😍
😂😂 thank you!
"NO you do NOT put Elias in this list, he is NOT a bad boy" fhejkghrg this was so funny
The second Raven Cycle books is the best in the series!! The first one is really slow, but I’d say give the series another go!
PLS I LOVE HOW U REFUSED TO LINK AFTER 🤣🙌🏻
I just bought the Howl’s Moving Castle book because of you 😌
YES OMG ✨🔥👏
Me as well.
No Throne of Glass characters? I’d definitely put Lorcan at the 😘 level. I would like to see this video but with all the good guys, I’d put Cassian from ACOTAR way up top. 😁
i havent had time to start throne of glass yet but i promise it will!!!!!
cari can read prepare to enter a world of disappointment
A year too late but omg am I the only one who actually loves Lorcan lol? I am ready to reread Kingdom of Ash just to see Elide and Lorcan's banter again. 🤭
@@althea9909 no you’re definitely not the only one lol. I’m starting my reread soon so I’m going to fall in love with him all over again lol.
ok but when you started rambling about after
girl i feel ya 😂😂
it just gets me so mad hahahaha
This was a really fun video!!!
i feel that!! glad we're both out of our reading ruts!
I then watched Trin Lovell's video and IT WAS HILARIOUS!!!!! Thank you for sharing that, I had a really good laugh this morning 😂😂😂
baahaha right?!
I totally forgot about the after series, but THANK YOU for saying that! During the hype of it I nearly never saw a review acknowledging how terrible Hardin is, everyone seemed to just mindlessly praise those books.
Omg what he does at the end is just mind boggle-ingly awful i dont know how people can not be totally disgusted!
HARRY POTTER BY DANIEL RADCLIFFE IM DYING 😂❤️
I’m actually glad I’m not the only one who feels the same about Cardan, I agree with your opinion 100%. I started the Cruel Prince through booktok and I actually had to stop 1/4 of the way through because the way they were bullying her just felt weird because on booktok so many people love and praise Cardan and I remember thinking .. “am I reading the same book??”
Anyways, I decided to pick it back up again this year and finish the series and it was like ..just okay imo. I agree that I feel Holly didn’t give him a good enough redemption arc that made me want to look past his “bad boy ways”. He was almost too cruel and then his redemption arc was like .. mediocre at best. He was just existing. Like what did he do that made him so good after? Did I miss something ?
I still enjoyed the book but for as much as it was hyped up, I was a bit disappointed.
honestly, I don't read books, I've never read any of the books you talked about but it makes me weirdly happy seeing you fangirl over books, I could watch you rant/fangirl over any book and never be bored
bahahahah thank you!!!
I'm a simple person. I see ACOTAR, I click.😄
This was so much fun and so funny! Loved watching this video and I totally agree with the darkling ranking.
ahahaha thank you!
cari can read Also just saw Harry Potter by Daniel Radcliffe in the description . Which we love to see!
Just realized you updated Cardan's! My bad!!
Ronan being described as a troubled teen with a pet bird could not be more accurate I'm laughing
Hahahhha
Thank you for adding Alucard!! I love that idiot magician pirate (whoops, sorry, I mean privateer) and Kell’s intense dislike for him is just hilarious. The Darker Shade of Magic series needs more appreciation all around - it’s brilliantly written, and I just adore all the main characters and rich, detailed settings!
this video was so fun to watch! i loved hearing all your takes, very soothing and entertaining to watch while i kneaded bread dough. i was wondering why you put cardan in the nope category because of the whole drugging jude and being an allover asshole to her but then not rhys when he also drugged feyre under the mountain in acotar? i've seen a lot of people say that was different because he wasn't trying to hurt her but trying to make it so she wouldn't remember what happened but isn't that still bad? just wondering what your take on this is. but yeah i loved this video! it would be so cool if you did one ranking heroines or sidekicks or any other character trope!
love how powerful this first video is! i am so loving this channel and it's only been 2 videos in! wahaha :D
bahah thank you!
When you put Howl at the top of the list I legitimately yelled
"YES"
This is such a fun idea Cari! I loved it, you should do a raking of main characters too :)
you know what. now that I'm looking at it, you kind of remind me of clary fray from mortal instruments. loved this and just subbed. I've actually enjoyed this a lot! also vicious sounds like a series I desperately need to read now. Loved this!
😂😂 thank you!!!
3:24 the fact that holly black actually wrote a book about cardan’s childhood and also added carden’s letters to jude in the last book is the best thing everrr🥹
im glad im not the only one who feels a bit iffy about fanfiction about real life people... it's so normalized in fandoms and i always feel so uncomfortable 😭😭
i see malfoy, i click
Amen
Lesson of the day: "Don't pluck people's eyeballs out"
OMG I just found this channel and I am rooting for it so much. I watched all the videos and I am so excited to listen more from you on books!!
Can't wait for you to read RED QUEEN
ELIAS IS THE BESTEST BOY EVER WHO PUT HIM ON THIS LIST😦
👏👏👏
No really 🔥😭
I cackled all throughout this video ugh love this channel so much Cari 💙💙💙💙
bahahah thank you!
I just finished darker shade of magic and I need to reread it just to hug holland 💔💔
I also only read the after fanfiction and it was soo problematic I cant even watch the movie 🤢
Yeah my poor bby 😭🙏 and they changed the story SO much to make the film watchable that it’s practically a different story lol i cant believe that fic got a proper book deal 🤢
I am so happy you put Six of Crows!
Ronan is a sweetheart
I'm glad you have 2 channels now! haha I love to hear you speak while I work!
"After by Anna Todd - I refuse to link it"
😂 Fully loved that
loved the video!!
right?!!!!
I took it PERSONALLY when you said « Light? I never liked him »
btw your video as always, are the sunlight to my days
You should do one about bad boys but with tv shows like Zuko from atla
Yes, L is the king. Who's Light? I only know L.
watching this as cardan as my fav bad boy :0 i read cardan's pov book and it helps a lot, i agree that he needed more time to show his chracter growth but i really love his character lol. also draco really did not deserve better i mean he was never abused, he was over pampered if anything. he might have been encouraged to be a death eater but thats on him and he never redeemed himself. how is rhysand and darkles gonna beat him tho 😩😩
I was literally thinking the same thing!
Thank you for commenting this honestly
Though I think Draco eventually did redeem himself in the last book? We don't get to see a lot of him redeeming himself because, well, that's the last book, but I think after the sixth year he began to reanalyse his actions and everything. I think he became a better person after that, but again, we don't see it since the series is over
Darn it Cari!!! I used to be really into YA and I've read several of these books over 5 years ago tho I stopped reading since I started college.... but since the start of this channel I've been thinking I'm going to have to re-read them and start up my reading hobby again. Ahhh! 😂
muhahaha sorry not sorry!
I personally love howl because of all the other ghibli movies protagonists I've seen so far, he's the most flawed and real to me. I love how he started as a superficial and cowardly man and grew so much as a character
I threw this on as a background productivity/bookish video and then proceeded to watch it all because it was so good. This is great
wooow I loved the video, don't know of these characters but I love watching people be passionate about something and I love talking about series and books too,,, looking forward to more videos on this channel, cari 🥰✨
🙈 thank you!!
hahahah 'I refuse to link it' for After in the description - I feel you! I watched Trina's video too (love her
This is such a fun idea! Loving the discussion so far ahahah who doesn't love a bad boy!
💕😈🥰
Love love love that you included a Dianna Wynne Jones book, she’s amazing ❤️
Oh Cari! Have you ever read the Shatter me series by Tahereh Mafi? I feel like this series is so unknown but it's one of the best ones I've ever read! Her writing style is so poetic and the story itself is really unique. And based on the books you read I think you might like them ☺️
I haven't but I will definitely be looking into it!!
Well at least I can put my sleeplessness to good use and watch your newest video right away. Love seeing more of your book content :)
😂 thank you and i hope you get some rest soon!!
@@caricanread I will ;) probably am too rested because I lay on my couch all day giving my foot time to heal 😅 at least I can sleep in
this video is GENIUS and is it bad that i would put quite a few on top of the top ahhh
😂😂😂 no judgement as long as it isnt hardin 💀
damn i forgot to send in recommendations 😭😭 woulda hit you with that raskolnikov LMAO
LMAO i can honestly say i have not finished crime and punishment hahah
cari can read oh i LOVED it loool we had to read it in english class and my teacher was really good at pointing all the objectively hilarious things that happen (like raskolnikov regularly wandering the city looking high and passing out into bushes). truly the og bad boy
(well i guess not the og. who do we think IS the og bad boy? judas?!?! 😂)
What an icon like Dostoyevsky was trying to comment on morality but instead Raskolnikov is just the original hot mess(tm) and honestly that says just as much lmao
ooooooo we love bookish bad boys in this household
that we do!!!
My god thank you for this list haha!
You have to read The Mirror Visitor from Christelle Dabos! It's such a good series of books. Originally in French but it has been translated :)
i haven't but i will look it up asap!! and thank you for watching hehe
Malfoy had so much potential that a thousand of fan fiction were created around him.
I was not particularly interested by ff but it turned out MANACLED became one of my favorite books of all times.
That being said, considering what I guessed you liked based on your opinion about cardan and Locke, I believe other malfoy fan fictions would suit you better (the fallout, love and other misfortunes, the disappearances of Draco Malfoy, The Auction…)
TW manacled is one of the darkest book I’ve ever read -and I’ve read many dark romances-. To anyone reading this please be aware and read the trigger warnings before if you wish to *put yourself in the most horrifying situation as Granger *. And I’m jealous to anyone of you who will read it for the first time.
Your list is exactly where I would place all of these characters. Especially Draco, Kaz and Holland.
All Elias wanted was peace and quiet and life slapped him so hard 😂😂. Elias is my fav male character of all time. He has culture, an actual family and isn't afraid to say what he needs to to Laia while supporting Helene
M halfway through Six of Crows and fascinated by Few characters such as Kaz, Nina and Matthias. Btw, your profile pic for both channels can be interchangeable I think. Cari Cakes is with books and Cari cakes reads is without book.
Yess the characters are amazing in that book!! And hahahha got to remind people on my vlog channel that i can read 😂😂😂
