I didn’t know that much about the civil rights movement in the UK thanks. Did the UK have any leading figures that could be compared to MLK or Malcolm X?
There was a TV series (which unfortunately wasn't great) called Guerrilla which dealt with the British Black Power movement of the 1970's. There was even a British Black Panther org which took it's lead from the American Black Panthers
It’s nice to see someone look at this factually, While I don’t agree with your perspective it’s nice to have someone who brings actual evidence to the table. Thank you
Well said sister, and I thank you so much for your educative piece. I cannot begin to say how appreciative I am as a black man to hear you put the point across so perfect and fearlessly. You are a blessed and an alliance. Stay long and blessed
This is a thoughtful video. Your advise at the end is exactly what I tell white people who ask me what they can do about racism. TALK TO OTHER WHITE PEOPLE. The more racist a person is, the more they ignore what black people have to say. Also, there are always other white people who disagree but don't speak up when a racist goes on a tangent, so you speaking up shows that now everyone agrees with Mr Lout Racist TM. Silence is read as agreement.
@@Alonglongtimeago Woah that is so pathetic, it really goes to show these alt right people have nothing better to do with their time . Haha we'd be here for literal years if I didn't keep it to a 'brief history'! Pleased you learnt something, and hopefully some of this stuff will at some point be taught as more than just an obscure part of the A-level curriculum. :)
This is interesting history of Black British but British racism begin long before 1950 or 1948, it really begin when British enter the slave trade in the 16th century
1950 was just an arbitrary recent-ish starting point because I don't have time to recount the entire history of racism but I wanted to make the point that it's still a problem
This is a very well made and informative video and it's a shame that it's being harassed by people who probably didn't watch anything beyond the first minute. Stay strong Jasmine! These whack jobs are only denying the truth!
@@Alonglongtimeago I don't live in the UK, but the history of racism is complex in all countries. On the other hand it's also because of people being too shallow.

There's a whole video series in music and racial tensions, with Ska and Rock Against Racism and what have you. Lots of interesting stuff here- and am listening to said track right now, really interesting (although I'm yet to become a ska fan). Also any opportunity to rep Coventry and you're there!

It is time we talked about compensating Black people... Black people are starved of capital and income due to the issues you have discussed... We need money!
a lot of this i already did know, from other sources (I've been binging on documentaries), though extra sources are always good. That black and white minstrel show? In the late 70s? Lord almighty. Dunno if I'd heard about black-face by 1980 (I was only 3) but I don't remember ever not knowing it was a terribly racist thing to do. I know, there've been dumb "comedy" movies and skits later than that from the US, but they should've known better too.
A important & underestimated topic, so thanks for this history-summary! ^^ "Why Im No Longer Talking to White People About Race" from Reni Eddo-Lodge is also an very impressive Book about this discussion, i can only recommend it.
