What do you guys think of the new mods? The truck is really coming along and it's been a BLAST modding it! Check out the links below for everything installed in today's video:

RC 30" curved CHROME light bar - amzn.to/2GMp9eh

Your Colorado modifications look great! I love the red letters. They're awesome and should've come that way, imo. Damn, now I might have to get one simply to do that. :) And the light bar is perfect for those times I may find myself in some remote location out in the desert here. Not that it’s routine mind you, but rather just in case. And your tutorial was top notch. It’s honestly one of the best I’ve seen in some time since you covered everything from what I can tell. So if you ever find yourself out here with it let me know.
@@cassiespencer6134 Thank you, I appreciate it! I will absolutely let you know if I'm out that way! I need to see that ZR1! 😁👍
your truck looks amazing. I have a 2016 Colorado and i am in love with mines to. what will you do with the grill you replaced. i would love to get the grill from you. my truck needs some mods
@@freddyfranco4500 thanks, man! I will probably sell the stock grill. If you're interested send me an email horse.power.obsessed@gmail.com.
@@HorsePowerObsessed thank you, i will follow up with you about the grill once i get something i need for the truck first. i do appreciate the quick response.
i am impressed by the fact that GM uses screws instead of those cheap plastic fasteners that almost always break when undoing them
I just installed my bison grill today and because of this video - and only because of this video - it was fairly easy. The only tricky thing were the 3 7mm bolts in the wheel well that I found were easier to remove by just holding the 7mm socket in my hand and twisting it rather than trying to jam a ratchet in that tiny space. Fortunately they weren’t installed too tight at the factory and pretty easy to get off. I made a little instruction sheet from this video and put each set of bolts or screws by each step so it was simple to reinstall. This is the best video out there on this and the new grill looks phenomenal. Took me about 2 hours and was doing it myself, didn’t take the wheels off, and didn’t jack up the truck. I just turned the wheels to each side as far as they could go to access some of the wheel well screws. Having a 10 inch socket extension is absolutely critical for the two bolts in the middle of the grill.
Great tips!
Painting the CHEVROLET red really hit the sweet spot with that grille.
Thank you. I thought the same, really helps set it all off!
I agree but man those clips are rediculous. Really wish you showed that part, I gave up.
@@MattyKnox The biggest reason I didn't show it was because it would have been almost impossible to see what I was doing. Tiny screwdriver shoved into a tiny little space to pop a clip out. You really just have to work at it for a little while and you'll get it.
Jetfuel8737 hey were you able to do it?
Bring it over to me and I'll help you with it! Trust me it's not impossible, it does take time though.
I love what you’re doing with this truck! Also Thank You for clearly demonstrating how to do these mods. I’ve been looking for a good demo showing where/how to pass a wire from the battery to the cab in a 2018 Colorado and this video is the most helpful I’ve found.
Thank you! I'm glad it helped! 😁👍
Painting the CHEVROLET red is a nice touch. It really sets your truck apart.
Thank you! 👍👍
Dadgum!! Looks amazing! Great decision to paint the new grill, and you did a great job putting the video together. Thanks for sharing man!
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it! 👍👍
Love your videos. Thank you for taking the time to upload them. Your video on replacing the front grill saved me a lot of time.
Thank you! I'm glad I could help out! 😁👍
Just found all your Colorado videos and love it. Just got my 2019 Redline and a lot of these mods are gonna find their way on it
Thanks! They have been great mods so far, no problems to report!
You're amazing !!! I am in love with your truck, and your content is great !!! Loving every aspect of your channel !
Thank you! I'm glad you like it! 😁👍
I’m jealous your truck is looking really nice. I’ve been binge watching your videos. Wish I had the patience and knowledge to do all the modifications myself.
Thank you. It's a lot easier than it looks. If you are near the PA area I'd be glad to assist you with some of the mods. 👍👍
The grill and light bar looks great! Nice job!
Thanks! 👍👍
Just picked up my 2019 Z71 yesterday. LOVE IT. Found your channel and plan to do most of the mods you've done. Subd.
Awesome! Thanks, man! 👍👍
All done (painted mine "cajun red" (copper base, dark red opaque topcoat) looks great. Thank you so much for the time you took to make this video
You're quite welcome! Thank you for watching! 👍
Glad you painted the grill.
Makes a world of difference.👍
I agree! It's the only way I'd install this grill.
The Coly is looking great J !!! Nixe job on the install too. Nice upload bro. Thx😉👍👊
Thank you! 👍👍
This is the best light bar install video for the Colorado I have seen yet. Great job! I already have that grill, so I don't need to do that. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! 👍 I appreciate the kind words.
I second this. Best video of the light bar install yet. Fantastic. One question, why did you connect the negative directly to the battery instead of grounding to the truck?
I'm 8 minutes in and very impressed. Definitely would be nerve racking cutting an oem bumper!!
It wasn't too bad because the small pieces were pretty easy to just cut right out. You definitely do feel a certain way about it though.
Looks great! I have a blue 2018 Colorado and this what I’m about to do. Thanks for sharing man.
Thank you! Definitely changes the whole look!
It is fantastic. Thank you for share with us the whole process.
You're welcome! 👍👍
My truck is black so I wouldn’t paint my grill but damn dude, what a subtle but brilliant touch painting yours red like that. Well done.
Thank you!
Man!!!! It looks AWESOME!! Good Job man!
Thanks, bud! It's really coming along!
She looks beauty Justin ! Nice work 👌🏻🔥
Thanks, Ryan! It's coming along nicely.
I am following your lead except mine is all black. I really like your red/black combo on your new grill!!!!
Thank you! 👍👍 Send me some pics of your truck!
I have the midnight. Doing the same.
Your video is much better than the instructions from Rough Country.
Thanks! I try to lay it out in an understandable way.
Nice review and the truck looks awesome
Thank you!
I have a Colorado plus I am also a Packer fan, now I am a subscriber!
Sweet! Welcome aboard!
Looks amazing man. Great job
Thanks a ton!
I like it, it looks good on your truck.
Thank you!
Liking the corvette....sweet car. And just bought a Colorado. Was looking for ideas to modify so e of the exteior. Thanks for the ideas.
Thank you. I've loved every second of modifying the Colorado. It's been a blast and pretty easy to do as well.
Hey man! I just finished this whole job and I just wanted to thank you for the awesome video! The instructions were outstanding, and your video close-ups made things very clear. It took me over half the day, but I'm done, and it looks amazing. I had to use an aftermarket Bison Grill because nobody has the OEM ones any more, but it turned out great.
I'd just like to point out one thing that would be super helpful. I couldn't figure out how you got the wire from the light bar through the little hole in the vent because of the big connector. Since you de-pinned one of the connections, I thought maybe you took that screw on connection apart too. I tried and almost broke it! I don't think that part is supposed to come apart! Haha. I ended up taking the crash bar off again so that I could get the fat connector behind the vent. Everything was gravy after that. Okay, not quite everything. There's a little hole on the firewall grommet and I was like "oh cool, I can just use this!", but it's some sort of nipple or something, and I pushed it through to the inside. When I realized my mistake I went back and pushed it through the ridge like you said. It wasn't easy, but I got it through.
The finished product looks amazing! I definitely would not have had the confidence to do this without your video. Thank you so much! Oh, just so you know, I bought the stuff from your links back in December, so hopefully you got some Amazon kick-back for that. You're the best and thanks again! Truly awesome videos you're making.
I really appreciate the kind words, my friend! Thank you!
What a big difference. The Bison grill looks way better. The Colorado looks awesome especially Next to the VETTE Z! 👍
Thanks, Robert! It's really coming along! It serves as a fantastic #2 to my Vette! 😉
Man that was a great idea to paint the grille lettering and I'll just bet that bright red is the best looking color to reallymake the mod a one off custom until someone copy's your great mod. Nice
Thanks! It definitely helps set it apart which is exactly what I wa going for. A little extra color behind the all black grille helps it pop!
Looks amazing
Thanks, man! 👍👍
Just got my Colorado today. I would love to do even a fraction of the mods you have.
Well... one mod at a time..
Awesome! You definitely can do them! Just get them one at a time, they all add up! I did mine over the period of about a year.
Looks fantastic. I need that light bar on my zr2.
Thank you! It really does help, you should do it on your ZR2! 👍👍
I am becoming obsessed with your videos man! I have been going with the red and black color scheme for a while on my Colorado too and may steal the idea of painting the lettering. Did you use any specific kind of paint?
Thank you! I used Krylon for plastics. It's still going strong, too!
Truck looks real good.
Thank you.
Looks great man. Great video
Thank you, my friend!
I recently bought a 2018 Colorado z71. Looking for mods for this truck. Any good ideas?
I really like your stealth mount for the interior light switch man. Does the led light on the switch stay lit 24/7? I’d prefer that to only light up when the light bar is on, not off.
Beautiful! Good job on the install. I'm really thinking about that light bar. Since my truck is the same color, I know exactly how it's going to look! I still like the old grill with the bowtie so I'm sticking with that for now. I got an AVS stick-on bug deflector and it made the truck look fantastic. Plus it deflects bugs. Who woulda thunk it.
I just got new black rims with wider spokes so painting the brake calipers is now priority. Do a vid on that please!
I did a video on painting the calipers. 👍
@@HorsePowerObsessed I watched your video on the calipers and I wished I did what you did. I sprayed it and even though they look great, your brush-on technique is far superior. Masking and over-spray were a pain.
I just put in bed anchors for an easy upgrade and I can't tell 'ya how useful they are. They should have come stock!
Great vids!
Thanks, man! I appreciate the support!
Love it bro!! Stealing the bumper idea painting it white for z71
Nice! Send me some pictures after you do it! 👍👍
More mods!!! Awesome now you need an intake and exhaust!
I'm working on it!
when you attach the bumper back on, can you get to the 2 center bolts that you needed the extension for? It seems like they would be hidden because of the light bar. Thanks!
Your truck is looking great! Thanks for all of the videos and inspiration for mine! Question - did you address the rub from the level/1.5 spacers? Hoping you’re still planning on making that as I intend to do the same setup and imagine I will rub also. Thanks again and keep up the great work!
Thank you! I sure did address that issue. The next video coming out will go over the fix! 😁👍
Yo! Can you share a link to that video? I'm getting some rub with a 1.5" riser too. It's only when the steering is pinned to either side and I hit the brakes hard or nail a bump, but I'd love to get rid of it.
Perfect video. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Looks great
Thanks! 😊
GO PACK GO BABY
Heck yeah!!!
Next mod is the Boost Auto tow mirrors. You can even get paintable mirrors with heated top and bottom. They are just like factory GM tow mirrors on the full size trucks.
I'm not sure if I like the look of them on the smaller trucks...
HorsePower Obsessed I understand that. When I very first put mine in I wasn’t sure either. But after a day I decided I really like it.
I decided that you buy a truck with a look in mind. And that as soon as you let yourself be a little flexible then it’ll change your mind.
The view is way better with the spotting mirror. Then there are the lighting options. I did every option except switchback. Upper and lower heated, high power reverse spot with cargo light tie in. I did black and not painted and am happy with that.
My truck is red also and I figure the back goes with my red and black theme as well.
I have the baby max and love it. 2017 with 26,000 miles. Has a color match leer canopy.
I took the faring (air dam) off the other day. What a significant improvement in look. Next is a leveling kit.
This video helped me out a ton. Thank you. Have you had issues with water/ condensation getting behind your lens? First wash after install of mine and it's all wet inside.
On the light bar?
@@HorsePowerObsessed in the light bar under the lens.
Interesting. I haven't had any issues with that.
Hey, I just got my front grille for my Colorado. Thanks for this video seems simple to install. I’m going to give it a go on the weekend. Question, what kind of paint did you use for the letters? I want to do the same but in blue to match my truck
I used Krylon Fusion paint.
@@HorsePowerObsessed thanks I’ll check it out.
The grill with the Chevrolet in Red looks great! Did you paint a clear coat on the red as well for debris impact? Mitigate any paint chips in the red paint? Looks great! 👍👍👍👍👍. You may have to show a night demo with the light bar on and off to see the delta.
Thank you! I put two cuts of red and two coats of clear coat. We'll see how it holds up but for now it looks amazing and so far no chips! 👍👍
It's red? I assumed it was Crush. My Crush truck looks exactly like that in photos and videos, but it's Crush orange in person.
LOOOKIN GOOD BROTHER 👍👍👍
Thank you!
Great video
Thank you!
Hey, I know this is an older video, but I thought you might like to know you can use an OEM lights switch for that light (Chevy Trail Boss Silverado ) Has an OEM headlight switch with a trail light button and a flog light button.
Unfortunately, it can't be wired up without some serious modifications. It needs an extra relay and some extra wiring to work.
Hey I'm probably going to install my led light tomorrow. Was it hard to put back the 10mm bolt in the front of the bumper?
It was more difficult than the rest but I wouldn't say it was hard. You'll want to have the wheel off but other than that it's pretty simple.
Great looking mods !
Thank you! It's been a blast to mod this truck!
I know what you mean. I’ve done quite a bit to mine as well. One of my favs are the amp research electric side steps which have been worth every penny since I have the 3 inch lift. The other cool thing I did was add factory Nav which is great too.
@@georges4562 That's awesome! I'm always using Android Auto so I don't really have a reason to have the nav.
Killer light bar. How bright is it at night in an open field setting? Pretty sweet? Video/pics?
Thanks! My latest Colorado video (just uploaded today) shows the light bar at night. It's brighter than my headlights/foglights combined.
Love how you added that extra paint touch to make the grill pop. Any thoughts to add a bull bar or anything to the front end or do you prefer the clean look? I've looked at some aftermarket bumpers, but none of which I like so much.
Thanks, man! That's exactly how I felt about the aftermarket bumpers. None of them look right to me. I am still torn on a bull bar, I've seen a few that look ok but haven't made up my mind just yet.
@@HorsePowerObsessed The biggest thing I would like to figure out is getting the rough country light bar and the trail boss lights to work at the touch of the light bar button. Chevy's hold for 3 seconds to power on and off is annoying.
@@xblindfolded This switch will fix that as well!
@@HorsePowerObsessed you know of the way to wire them all into the one and bypass the bcm?
@@xblindfolded The switch I purchased bypasses the BCM. I don't see why it wouldn't be able to control both of them at the same time.
Now that looks awesome ( Norristown)
Thanks! 👍👍
Hey more info of those fender flares thanks … an that’s a 10/10 truck it’s hot
Thanks. They were the stock fender flares that seem to be very hard to find nowadays.
Do you feel that the lightbar tucks into the bumper far enough? I am ordering the same light but thinking about drilling new holes in the bracket so it sits inside the bumper an inch further and then shortening the bracket to match. My main concern is making it harder to steal but also wanting to keep it as subtle as possible so it looks oem. Thanks for you input and also your video!
The curved light bar sits perfectly in the bumper in my opinion. The straight bar does stick out too far on the ends, that's the biggest reason I went with the curved one.
It looks bad ass! I just got that light bar, and I was wondering WTF to do about the little vertical grill things. It's a shame they need to be cut. Did it feel like they were supporting the lower part of the bumper at all? Cutting them off had no negative side-effects? I'm wondering if sanding it down afterwards would make it look better or worse. Anyways, now I have to find a Bison Grille, which doesn't seem to be sold online anymore. Thanks for the video!
Thanks! No, clipping those plastic parts wasn't a big deal, the bumper doesn't rely on them. If I had to guess they were added just to keep larger items from being able to get into the bumper through there. Real flimsy plastic.
That truck is looking amazing! Is a New lift coming?
The next video is going to have more to do with a full level kit and stopping the tires from rubbing. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet regarding a full lift.
If you put a lift on it, you will void the warranty.
@@chadbreedlove5457 that's not actually true.
It sure isn't! 👍👍
Hey there man, awesome video! I looked it up but couldn’t find any answers, but would you happen to know if that Bison grille would fit a 2015? Thank you so much.
Thank you. Yes it will fit any Colorado up to a 2020.
I ordered the black series straight light bar today because on the Rough Country page says the curved one won't fit, I think the curved one looks better, do you think painting the letters on my grill with plastidip would work?
I love your truck by the way, mines all black with some red accents
Plasti dip will definitely work and the curved light bar will also definitely fit I put it on mine! 👍👍
I really appreciate the links. My parts guy was clueless a few months back and quoted me almost a grand for the grill. Just an evil idea... have you thought about hiding red led lights behind the grill so the chevrolet logo lights up red at night? I'm thinking of doing the same with my blue long box z71
No problem! I'm happy to help. I did think about the lights behind the grille but I'm not sure.
Looks great I like it, except Not intended for use on ZR2 Models
Thanks!
How do I change the air filter on my 2021 Chev Tahoe
Did you paint the grate red for grille or have someone else paint it? If you did what did you use? Thanks...
I did it myself. Just a can of spray paint and a can of clear coat.
I’ve been searching your videos and I can’t remember what size spacers you put on the wheels it’s a give it more aggressive stance 1/2 or 2 inch spacers on the truck before you sold them?
1 1/2" spacers is what I had. You can't go any smaller without grinding the lug studs. You can get the same ones I bought here: amzn.to/3CpqeFT
Going to the link for the grill, it takes me to a 2019 Colorado... No issues? (Obviously no issues based on the video) ..You have a 2018 correct? I'm wondering if it'll fit my 2017.
I know you already got the answer to this but I'm going to answer it anyway just so other people can see it. This grille will fit any Colorado 2015-2019. 👍
What brackets did you use for the Rough Country curved cree black light bar? Rough Country told me the hidden bumper mounts are not meant/dont work with the curved light bar. Your install using those bumper mounts looks great. Has it held up? Am I missing something?
Thank you
-Tom
You can get the mounts here: amzn.to/3fwlCQP. But yes, they are the same as RC's mounts. They will work with the curved or straight bar.
Any tricks/advice in working the clips to take the mesh off to paint? Mine are so tight, I'm worried that I will break them or that there is glue holding it on somewhere.
There is definitely not any glue. They are tight on there but 2 small screwdrivers will do it. It took me about an hour and 1000% focus to get it done, but once you start getting 2 or 3 of them off they all get easier.
@@HorsePowerObsessed thanks. got it figured out before you replied with sheer determination. Ended up having to pretty much destroy the two clips in the middle. They were too small for my screwdrivers. What I did: Start at one side. Once those two larger clips are freed, slide in a wooden wedge. Move down the bottom, making sure the wedge stays in place and push the wedge in further (keeping it at the side of grill) to keep pressure. Once halfway across, use another wedge and start working from the opposite side. Then free the upper clips. I hope this helps others, as I see a lot of questions regarding this. Thanks
Hey what is the name of the chrome peace around the fog lights I have a chevy colorado just like your and I'm going for the red and black look thinking about changing the chrome to black around the fog lights
Fog light bezel/trim.
I just got back from the Philippines Tuesday, so i missed a lot of your videos ( 28 days ). Got a lot of catching up to do. Looks great bro ! I see you painted your calipers. Did you remove those to paint,,, or leave them on like i did ?
Thank you! I left them on. The paint that I used gets brushed on so it's pretty easy to work around everything else.
@@HorsePowerObsessed,,,You used the high heat paint ?
@@bryan7821 for the calipers, yes.
In one of your vids I saw an update for an upgraded OEM looking light switch which included an on off button for the rough country light bar. Can you link it? I’m having a very hard time finding it.
Those switches are very hard to get right now because they have been out of stock for months going on years. If they ever come back you can grab one here: bit.ly/2RGA8vM
@horsepowerobsessed I just bought a GMC Canyon and looking to put a light bar in exactly the same spot as you. However what is that little camera looking thing, @5:21. Is that not the sensor for collision avoidance? Have you noticed any difference with all the sensors and what not?
That is actually the ambient temperature sensor.
Oh mint, thanks bud
Did you use regular red spray paint or did you color match the paint code on your truck?
Krylon for plastics. It was almost a perfect match!
I think the grille is awesome. Where can I buy that grille?
link is in the description.
How do you pop those clips out in the grill? I can’t seem to be able to remove them.
They are pretty tight. 2 small screwdrivers are your best bet!
Hello, what did you use to point the grille red to match the truck?
Krylon fusion
How is this light bar holding up I heard mix reviews after first wash
I had it on this truck for over 2 years during PA winters and it was fine up until the day I sold it. The new owner has not had any issues with it either. I'd say it's solid.
Did you have to remove the tires or was that just so you could have more room to work?
Just more room. You could do it without removing the wheels.
On painting the Chevrolet to the grill.what kind of paint did u use? I have a blue zr2 an u gave me a good idea.just wondering.
I used paint specifically for plastic and clear coat on top of it.
@@HorsePowerObsessed thank you so much. I'll try to remember to send a pic once done.
@@Rip-pq1vo definitely! 😁👍
HorsePower Obsessed did you spray it or brush it on?
Spray paint. Krylon fusion.
I was wondering if you moved the temperature sensor from behind the new light bar. Probably a trivial matter but it will throw the temperature off when the light is on.
I did not move it, but I haven't noticed any fluctuation with temperature outside.
@@HorsePowerObsessed Awesome I guess there must very little heat off of those heat sinks. Good to know.
Guess so! 👍👍
Looks really awesome Justin, but I think you mistakenly purchased Green Bay stuff instead of Stealers.
No mistake! 🤣🤣 Been a Packers fan all my life! 😁
How do you de pin a connector like you did?
A tiny screwdriver will allow you to push the pin in to allow it to slide out of the connector.
Packers fan in Pennsylvania lmao. I should talk I'm a Browns fan in Wisconsin
wow. It sucks, doesn't it? lol
Were did you get the black trim around the fog light. I also watched you install black colorado letters w/red trim with a jig were did you find it as well.
Thanks,

The blackout fog trim came from tascaparts.com. The stencil for applying the letters comes with them when you buy from GM.
@@HorsePowerObsessed didn't you install a 2" leveling kit on your Colorado ? I was told by the tire shop they don't make one for my Colorado and if they did they wouldn't be able set the right. Is this ture or did you have issues with your.
Thanks,
Mark Clemens
Your truck looks great!! I'm buying a Colorado here in Australia, but they are RHD, badged as a Holden and built in Thailand. I'm hoping the grille will interchange as I want to badge mine as a Chevy. The Holden look is a bit weak (check out 'Holden Colorado' on Google). The Bison grille looks real tough. Fingers crossed!
Thank you! I'm not sure if that grille is going to fit, it looks like a different shape to me...
@@HorsePowerObsessed You're right. Different shape. I can go Chevy by buying parts from Thailand - they badge the same truck as ours as a Chevy. But nowhere as good as the Bison Grille.
@@vettenews8159 That's too bad. Send me some pictures of your truck, I'm curious to see it! horse.power.obsessed@gmail.com
would this grille fit the LT model? and love the vids, I want to get the mods and add on but I don't know if they will fit the Colorado LT
It will definitely fit as long as you have a 2020 or prior model. The 2021's changed up the front bumper.
@@HorsePowerObsessed ok I got a 2016, and love the vids been watching all of them and seeing that to do for mine because you have the same color truck!!! THANK YOUUU
You're very welcome! Thank YOU!
Is there one for a 2022 Z71? Seems the one you installed is slightly different.
What are you looking for specifically? The grill?
Hi i just got a 2022 Z71 trail boss midnight i have bin looking for the red caliper covers and i seen your can you tell me were you got your thank you and i love your channel
Thanks, man. I painted mine, I didn't get covers.
@@HorsePowerObsessed hi
@@HorsePowerObsessed hi was it hard to do ?
Hi
Did the light bar interfere with the forward Crash alert? If so did you just turn it off on the dash or did you disconnect it and remove it?
The Colorado doesn't have the forward crash alert feature.
HorsePower Obsessed oh ok, my 2016 came Colorado has it. Trying to figure out what to do with it if i put in a light bar, because the bar will in right in front of it.
What paint did you use for the red in the grill? Just got my bison grill and wanted to do the same
Krylon fusion for plastic.
@@HorsePowerObsessed thanks man!!
You're very welcome.
Is the curved light bar better than the straight light bar for the Colorado. I think Matt has the straight bar and I just wondering which has the best look overall ?
I personally like the curved light bar because it perfectly matches the lines of the front bumper.
@@HorsePowerObsessed Ok Thanks for the reply
Is it possible to link the light bar with the stock fog light switch?
No. There's a way to do it with the high beams that I'm going to look into
I was under the impression that the light bar brackets only fit straight bars. Did you have to do any modifications for them to fit the curved bar?
Nope. They fit. 👍👍
Does the light bar whistle while driving?
No I haven't heard any noise from it. I've been wondering about this, though because of something that was included with the light bar that I didn't put on... Some sort of noise stoppers. It doesn't make any noise though.
