@@HorsePowerObsessed awesome. Thanks for the feedback man. I have a silver redline Colorado that's getting a lift next week. Yours and Matt's content are life savers for DIY Colorado mods. Thanks for the feedback!!
Beautiful! Good job on the install. I'm really thinking about that light bar. Since my truck is the same color, I know exactly how it's going to look! I still like the old grill with the bowtie so I'm sticking with that for now. I got an AVS stick-on bug deflector and it made the truck look fantastic. Plus it deflects bugs. Who woulda thunk it. I just got new black rims with wider spokes so painting the brake calipers is now priority. Do a vid on that please!
@@HorsePowerObsessed I watched your video on the calipers and I wished I did what you did. I sprayed it and even though they look great, your brush-on technique is far superior. Man that was a great idea to paint the grille lettering and I'll just bet that bright red is the best looking color to reallymake the mod a one off custom until someone copy's your great mod. Nice
I was wondering if you moved the temperature sensor from behind the new light bar. Probably a trivial matter but it will throw the temperature off when the light is on.
HorsePower Obsessed yeah I bought that trim kit. I can barely get them to squeeze in any spots. So tight. I need a freaking pry bar! I feel like I’m going to snap something.
No I haven't heard any noise from it. I've been wondering about this, though because of something that was included with the light bar that I didn't put on... Some sort of noise stoppers. It doesn't make any noise though.
What brackets did you use for the Rough Country curved cree black light bar? Rough Country told me the hidden bumper mounts are not meant/dont work with the curved light bar. Your install using those bumper mounts looks great. Has it held up? Am I missing something? Thank you -Tom
Quick question. Saw the brackets from rough country say it won't work with the curved bar? Did you get different ones or do something to yours to make it work?
when you attach the bumper back on, can you get to the 2 center bolts that you needed the extension for? It seems like they would be hidden because of the light bar. Thanks!
@@stealyfan absolutely! I don't see this causing any issues. The opening around the light bar is still big enough and the majority of the air gets pulled in through the grill anyway.
I really like your stealth mount for the interior light switch man. Does the led light on the switch stay lit 24/7? I’d prefer that to only light up when the light bar is on, not off.
Next mod is the Boost Auto tow mirrors. You can even get paintable mirrors with heated top and bottom. They are just like factory GM tow mirrors on the full size trucks.
HorsePower Obsessed I understand that. When I very first put mine in I wasn’t sure either. But after a day I decided I really like it. I decided that you buy a truck with a look in mind. And that as soon as you let yourself be a little flexible then it’ll change your mind. The view is way better with the spotting mirror. Then there are the lighting options. I did every option except switchback. Upper and lower heated, high power reverse spot with cargo light tie in. I did black and not painted and am happy with that. My truck is red also and I figure the back goes with my red and black theme as well. I have the baby max and love it. 2017 with 26,000 miles. Has a color match leer canopy. I took the faring (air dam) off the other day. What a significant improvement in look. Next is a leveling kit.
@@HorsePowerObsessed I agree it would be worth it for sure. The tabs are so tight I just know I’m gonna break it. Tried taping it off around the letters and the tedium got to me lol
I ordered the black series straight light bar today because on the Rough Country page says the curved one won't fit, I think the curved one looks better, do you think painting the letters on my grill with plastidip would work? I love your truck by the way, mines all black with some red accents
Hey man! I just finished this whole job and I just wanted to thank you for the awesome video! The instructions were outstanding, and your video close-ups made things very clear. It took me over half the day, but I'm done, and it looks amazing. I had to use an aftermarket Bison Grill because nobody has the OEM ones any more, but it turned out great. I'd just like to point out one thing that would be super helpful. I couldn't figure out how you got the wire from the light bar through the little hole in the vent because of the big connector. Since you de-pinned one of the connections, I thought maybe you took that screw on connection apart too. I tried and almost broke it! I don't think that part is supposed to come apart! Haha. I ended up taking the crash bar off again so that I could get the fat connector behind the vent. Everything was gravy after that. Okay, not quite everything. There's a little hole on the firewall grommet and I was like "oh cool, I can just use this!", but it's some sort of nipple or something, and I pushed it through to the inside. When I realized my mistake I went back and pushed it through the ridge like you said. It wasn't easy, but I got it through. The finished product looks amazing! I definitely would not have had the confidence to do this without your video. Thank you so much! Oh, just so you know, I bought the stuff from your links back in December, so hopefully you got some Amazon kick-back for that. You're the best and thanks again! Truly awesome videos you're making.
The grill with the Chevrolet in Red looks great! Did you paint a clear coat on the red as well for debris impact? Mitigate any paint chips in the red paint? Looks great! 👍👍👍👍👍. You may have to show a night demo with the light bar on and off to see the delta.
Love how you added that extra paint touch to make the grill pop. Any thoughts to add a bull bar or anything to the front end or do you prefer the clean look? I've looked at some aftermarket bumpers, but none of which I like so much.
Thanks, man! That's exactly how I felt about the aftermarket bumpers. None of them look right to me. I am still torn on a bull bar, I've seen a few that look ok but haven't made up my mind just yet.
@@HorsePowerObsessed The biggest thing I would like to figure out is getting the rough country light bar and the trail boss lights to work at the touch of the light bar button. Chevy's hold for 3 seconds to power on and off is annoying.
I have the grill but how did you get the color behind the grill? I don't have any inserts to paint. 😒 Mine is different the letters come off in the long matte strip 😤😤😤
It looks bad ass! I just got that light bar, and I was wondering WTF to do about the little vertical grill things. It's a shame they need to be cut. Did it feel like they were supporting the lower part of the bumper at all? Cutting them off had no negative side-effects? I'm wondering if sanding it down afterwards would make it look better or worse. Anyways, now I have to find a Bison Grille, which doesn't seem to be sold online anymore. Thanks for the video!
Thanks! No, clipping those plastic parts wasn't a big deal, the bumper doesn't rely on them. If I had to guess they were added just to keep larger items from being able to get into the bumper through there. Real flimsy plastic.
Just got my bison grill installed and am looking to get that exact light bar and would love to have the hidden mounts but the link in the description doesn’t work. Do you have any idea where I could get them? Thanks a lot!!
@@HorsePowerObsessed ok I got a 2016, and love the vids been watching all of them and seeing that to do for mine because you have the same color truck!!! THANK YOUUU
Were your fender flares not stuck to the front bumper with adhesive? I just installed fenders which had adhesive tape sticking them to the front bumper and now I want to change my grill. Any advise?
I added mine myself and when I did, I purposely didn't stick the adhesive on the front bumper knowing I was going to need into it later. If it's stock, it will be stuck all the way around. Some heat will help get it removed.
@@HorsePowerObsessed awesome thanks so much for the advise, did you restick yours or just use the screws? If you only used screws then are there any gaps?
Hey there man, awesome video! I looked it up but couldn’t find any answers, but would you happen to know if that Bison grille would fit a 2015? Thank you so much.
Going to the link for the grill, it takes me to a 2019 Colorado... No issues? (Obviously no issues based on the video) ..You have a 2018 correct? I'm wondering if it'll fit my 2017.
I know you already got the answer to this but I'm going to answer it anyway just so other people can see it. This grille will fit any Colorado 2015-2019. 👍
The next video is going to have more to do with a full level kit and stopping the tires from rubbing. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet regarding a full lift.
Damn it i really wish I would have thought about that with my flares because I’m itching for that grille. How much of a bitch do you think it would be to remove that 3m tape
That stuff was on there pretty good past that front bumper line. I'd say it's gonna be tough but as long as you have stuff to replace it with it shouldn't be too bad.
Hey, I just got my front grille for my Colorado. Thanks for this video seems simple to install. I’m going to give it a go on the weekend. Question, what kind of paint did you use for the letters? I want to do the same but in blue to match my truck
In one of your vids I saw an update for an upgraded OEM looking light switch which included an on off button for the rough country light bar. Can you link it? I’m having a very hard time finding it.

Not really. It is designed for the straight bar but as soon as you tighten down the bolts on the light bar it works out just fine.
@@HorsePowerObsessed awesome. Thanks for the feedback man. I have a silver redline Colorado that's getting a lift next week. Yours and Matt's content are life savers for DIY Colorado mods. Thanks for the feedback!!
You're quite welcome! Congrats on the lift! Send me some pictures when it's done!
I did a video on painting the calipers. 👍
@@HorsePowerObsessed I watched your video on the calipers and I wished I did what you did. I sprayed it and even though they look great, your brush-on technique is far superior. Masking and over-spray were a pain.
I just put in bed anchors for an easy upgrade and I can't tell 'ya how useful they are. They should have come stock!
Great vids!
Thanks, man! I appreciate the support!
Man that was a great idea to paint the grille lettering and I'll just bet that bright red is the best looking color to reallymake the mod a one off custom until someone copy's your great mod. Nice
Thanks! It definitely helps set it apart which is exactly what I wa going for. A little extra color behind the all black grille helps it pop!
What paint did you use for the red in the grill? Just got my bison grill and wanted to do the same
Krylon fusion for plastic.
@@HorsePowerObsessed thanks man!!
You're very welcome.
I was wondering if you moved the temperature sensor from behind the new light bar. Probably a trivial matter but it will throw the temperature off when the light is on.
I did not move it, but I haven't noticed any fluctuation with temperature outside.
@@HorsePowerObsessed Awesome I guess there must very little heat off of those heat sinks. Good to know.
Guess so! 👍👍
Have you tried to replace the speakers? I cannot get off the trim plate where the power window switches are
They are held on with clips. If you get some trim removal tools you can get it off but it does take some force.
HorsePower Obsessed yeah I bought that trim kit. I can barely get them to squeeze in any spots. So tight. I need a freaking pry bar! I feel like I’m going to snap something.
@@seadoo4life727 they are definitely on there tight but they will come off! Straight up!
HorsePower Obsessed ok I try again in hopes I don’t ruin the plastic
Did you pry up from the arm rest pad? I’m ruining the silver plastic trim! Ahh
Does the light bar whistle while driving?
No I haven't heard any noise from it. I've been wondering about this, though because of something that was included with the light bar that I didn't put on... Some sort of noise stoppers. It doesn't make any noise though.
Did it affect the sensor under the bumper
No. That’s an outside air temp sensor and it was fine.
What brackets did you use for the Rough Country curved cree black light bar? Rough Country told me the hidden bumper mounts are not meant/dont work with the curved light bar. Your install using those bumper mounts looks great. Has it held up? Am I missing something?
Thank you
-Tom
You can get the mounts here: amzn.to/3fwlCQP. But yes, they are the same as RC's mounts. They will work with the curved or straight bar.
Quick question. Saw the brackets from rough country say it won't work with the curved bar? Did you get different ones or do something to yours to make it work?
No to both. The brackets rough country sells definitely work. 👍
@@HorsePowerObsessed thanks man I just ordered and will be watching your video again while doing it.
Awesome! You're quite welcome and thank you for your support!
So I did it today. Easy enough with your video. Thanks again.
when you attach the bumper back on, can you get to the 2 center bolts that you needed the extension for? It seems like they would be hidden because of the light bar. Thanks!
Is it possible to link the light bar with the stock fog light switch?
No. There's a way to do it with the high beams that I'm going to look into
Is there any type of paint you'd recommend for the job?
I used Krylon Fusion and it has held up great.
@@HorsePowerObsessed always appreciate you responding brother thank you
Any concern about light bar impeding air flow? It looks like they designed that area to be open-somewhat.
It still is very open but there's been a lot of talk on the forum about this exact issue and no one has noticed any increase in temperatures. 👍
Thanks, I live in desert and try to keep the heat issue in mind.
@@stealyfan absolutely! I don't see this causing any issues. The opening around the light bar is still big enough and the majority of the air gets pulled in through the grill anyway.
How much did you raise your truck front and back
Just the front, 2 inches.
I have the same set up 2 inch on same size tires do u think i can go 265/70r17 with no runbing
Yes. If you don't have wheel spacers.
I'm not sure if I like the look of them on the smaller trucks...
Hi . Where can I get the 30" light bar?
Right here: amzn.to/3q6yfJy
How did you paint the inside of the lettering?
The grill comes apart. I took the 2 pieces apart and painted the back part with Krylon Fusion.
@@HorsePowerObsessed Yeah I tried briefly to separate those. Too afraid to break it.
I won't lie and tell you that it's easy but it's definitely worth it. It took me a good 2 hours to get it apart.
@@HorsePowerObsessed I agree it would be worth it for sure. The tabs are so tight I just know I’m gonna break it. Tried taping it off around the letters and the tedium got to me lol
Your video is much better than the instructions from Rough Country.
Thanks! I try to lay it out in an understandable way.
Where did you get the black fog light housing?
tascaparts.com
She looks beauty Justin ! Nice work 👌🏻🔥
Thanks, Ryan! It's coming along nicely.
I ordered the black series straight light bar today because on the Rough Country page says the curved one won't fit, I think the curved one looks better, do you think painting the letters on my grill with plastidip would work?
I love your truck by the way, mines all black with some red accents
Plasti dip will definitely work and the curved light bar will also definitely fit I put it on mine! 👍👍
Hi.. Do you still have the old black grille??
I don't. I recently sold it locally. Why do you ask?
Because i really want black one
I really appreciate the kind words, my friend! Thank you!
I was under the impression that the light bar brackets only fit straight bars. Did you have to do any modifications for them to fit the curved bar?
Nope. They fit. 👍👍
Liking the corvette....sweet car. And just bought a Colorado. Was looking for ideas to modify so e of the exteior. Thanks for the ideas.
Thank you. I've loved every second of modifying the Colorado. It's been a blast and pretty easy to do as well.
The grill with the Chevrolet in Red looks great! Did you paint a clear coat on the red as well for debris impact? Mitigate any paint chips in the red paint? Looks great! 👍👍👍👍👍. You may have to show a night demo with the light bar on and off to see the delta.
Thank you! I put two cuts of red and two coats of clear coat. We'll see how it holds up but for now it looks amazing and so far no chips! 👍👍
It's red? I assumed it was Crush. My Crush truck looks exactly like that in photos and videos, but it's Crush orange in person.
Hello, what did you use to point the grille red to match the truck?
Krylon fusion
@@xblindfolded This switch will fix that as well!
@@HorsePowerObsessed you know of the way to wire them all into the one and bypass the bcm?
@@xblindfolded The switch I purchased bypasses the BCM. I don't see why it wouldn't be able to control both of them at the same time.
I have the grill but how did you get the color behind the grill? I don't have any inserts to paint. 😒 Mine is different the letters come off in the long matte strip 😤😤😤
Ohh, sounds like you got the aftermarket grill. I'm not sure how that would work out.
It is fantastic. Thank you for share with us the whole process.
You're welcome! 👍👍
How do you pop those clips out in the grill? I can’t seem to be able to remove them.
They are pretty tight. 2 small screwdrivers are your best bet!

Just screws from the bumper line forward. I've already had it off twice since then so I don't want to restick it at all.
What kind of paint you used for the grille ?
Krylon Fusion for plastics.
HorsePower Obsessed okay thank you I was planning on doing something similar. And has any of the paint chipped off or has it been pretty intact ?

Yes. Any Colorado (other than ZR2) from 2015 up to 2020.
