Down: They left the kitty behind.
But an Up if they rescue the kitty in a future episode (and return her to her people)
It is a "kids show" as much as Teen Titans or Young Justice is a kids show. That alone got me hooked. I hope they rescue that little Caitian.
Also, I kinda suspect that Dal is a Kobali
So totally a kid's show.
You know considering that Star Trek seems to be making some very solid animated shows I wouldnt mind if they continued shows like DS9 and Enterprise by turning them into full animated serieses. This way they can also work around stuff like the actors having aged
I agree. An animated miniseries about the Earth/Romulan War, and/or an animated series about Captain Riker and the USS Titan would be pretty awesome, especially since there’s been recent news stories about Paramount’s new studio boss, who’s seriously considering adding more animated Star Trek projects to the studio’s production schedule.
It's gonna be a down for me if they don't rescue that cute cat alien this season. But I enjoyed the 1st episode and I'm hoping my step daughter will like the show
Same, when they left all I was thinking about was what about the young cat alien, without someone to look out for her she will be sent to the mines.
I really enjoyed the first episode it’s really impressive visually and draws you into the new universe via the new characters
meow
Absolutely my very first thought when critiquing this first episode. 😆
Admittedly, the only person who would know about the kitty was kinda tied up...
I think it would be cool to have some of the crew bold over their new love of coffee
Screw it, I was really thinking i wouldn't want to watch, but I just did and it's just great to have a fine new Star Trek.
Same here
I always wondered how a Star Trek show not centered on humans would look. This may be the closest we'll get.
We're going to be watching new TREK for DECADES to come! At this point, I would not rule out ANYTHING!
This is going to be a memory making show between me and my 6 year old daughter in the same way I had TNG with my dad! She was literally bouncing up and down on the couch during the final escape scene!
I have a daughter due within weeks, honestly looking forward to sitting down eventually and watching this with her
I like it, I give it a 9/10 I just hope they rescue that poor Caitain girl by the season end
Me too
Team Murf
Team Zero
Team Getting the F back there to rescue the Caitian child
Team everyone tbh. This was so much fun
Definitely Team Rok-Tahk.
And also Team Getting the F back there to rescue the Caitian child RIGHT NOW!
They were all great.
Star Trek Prodigy actually surprised me.
It looks beautiful and feels almost cinematic and felt great.
First episode seems familiar (but can't place where) yet feels not dumbed down at all.
It doesn't feel like a show designed for children at all. It is a solid start.
Wow, it was so refreshing to hear all the good comments and not complain about the negative, too much negative in the world right now.. Great job TrekCulture.
I'm so ready for this and I'm 60!!!
Ditto
I’m 40 and I thought it was wonderful
@@Dancestar1981 same here, it's just lovely and I'm so looking forward to it!
51 year old here and I'm with you! The more (and different) TREK, the BETTER!!!
@@tulinfirenze1990 Yay! Any Trek is good Trek! 56 here.
If you look very carefully at the consoles, the Protostar is equipped with Trans Warp
So could the protostar have been created to find people that were abducted by the caretaker, and it presumably chrashed on this planet
Is anyone else preoccupied with the baby Catian being left behind!? 🥺
Absolutely not (you guys had better rescue the kitty or there will be riots)
Right???!
Dunno, like, everybody who watched the episode?
If they don't go back to save the little Caitian girl, I WILL RIOT!
Very solid 1st ep. And the visuals! Holy Q, the visuals!
Already people are whining about "not star trek, it's star wars". They never seem to be happy unless criticising star trek. I absolutely love it and the ship....... Nice, very very nice.
i see more people complaining that the kitten didn't get rescued. rescue the damn kitty.
I truly enjoyed it. It may be a aimed at kids but I also see that an adult could set down with their kids and enjoy watching it together. I have correct myself it's not a kids show it's a family show. We need more family shows like this. Its not kiddish and isn't adult. It's mixed just right. Old trekkers can now recruit their kids into the franchise. It gives parents and children something to talk about and come together over.
Its a kids show. Its practically unwatchable.
@@boss-anova you seem to be in the minority... by a lot. 😁
Hahahaha, I love that, recruit their kids hahahahaha
@@riennarindo9727 thats how subjective opinions work, bud. 🤦♂️
I got real Chief o’Brien vibes from Jankom Pog.. how good would it be to have colm meaney pop up as an emergency engineering hologram! 🤣
I like that it's not childish. Seems like all the things I remember about TNG watching it as a kid. Has the potential of being like Avatar in terms of good story
ha, yes! better than Avatar in some ways, I think. we shall see!
Yeah I got Avatar: TLA vibes from it too. Just replace the eastern fantasy setting with sci fi and the sky bison with a Federation starship.
if this is half as good as lower decks its all good. the fact that its for kids is really not a problem. a good kids show is as watchable for me as a good show for adults.
For at least 30 minutes I thought I was watching a new Star Wars show, then they found the ship and boom... I love it. And please, save the little kitty girl!
I was hoping that Janeway was going to introduce herself as the Emergency Command Hologram. Would have been a nice little easter egg, that.
The pilot episode was just as visually stunning as the trailers, good pacing, great introduction to the main characters- I’m super excited to see where this season goes :D
Loved it! Voyager brought me into Star Trek as younger person so seeing it used as an indirect vessel for introducing this generation to Star Trek warms my heart
I honestly wasn't expecting to like Prodigy, I hadn't been excited about it since it's announcement...but I absolutely loved it!
Sean ya missed the TRANSWARP button on the Protostars helm!
The "opening" credits don't skip over that fact, you see the ship reveal an engine from its engineering hull
We need a ds9 sequel state
yeah its a kids show, but i loved it anyway.
And i watched TNG when i was a kid, that tells you how old I am!
Still a Trekkie for ever.
i watched TOS when first aired
@@alisonhamerm.i.q.a2323 LEGACY fan! Respect!
Was there a nod to Galaxy Quest and the "chomper" scene? At least it made sense in this context, and the episode was certainly not "badly written."
The fact that John Noble is voice acting this show is a plus. I'll watch just for that.
He's an amazing actor!
Thoughts I had during the episode:
1.) Prisoner Zero has escaped? Have you looked in Amy Pond's house in Leadworth?
2.) What is a Lurian doing so far away from the Ionite Nebula?!
3.) That little Caitian (Kitian?) now has nobody to protect her since Gwyn was aboard the Protostar. She'll get send to the mines. Sure, the Protostar is gone, but that ore is still valuable apparently.
Not to be dramatic but one episode in and I would die for Zero. Im here for the genderless, telepathic energy entity
I'm nonbinary myself and YES! agree.
it blew me away and very much had a Mass Effect vibe set in Star Trek and very much did have that Kelvin-verse feel. I especially like that the interior had stairwells leading to the different decks.
Like many others, I wasn't expecting to like this show but colour me impressed. Seems Paramount are hitting sixes (home runs) with their animated Trek offerings unlike their live action shows.
It is like a cross between the anime Gurren Lagann and Blake’s 7. It was a lot of fun to watch. I like the idea of learning more about the Medusans.
It felt more like it was for older kids. I did like it a lot.
It did seem a lot like Star Wars, yet I don’t care I like it.
Also John Noble brings a lot to his work.
Am I the only one to believe that Jankom Pog is an homage to Bebop from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?
It was properly engaging. Dal is such an entertaining character without being irritating with his humour. I was totally sold. What a time to be a Star Trek fan. Looking forward to way more Janeway and eventually Chakotay.
I found Dal obnoxious as hell, especially with the stupid faces he was making
the musical references to the voyager theme was awesome
I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this show. It may not be for me. That said, I'm cool with it not appealing to me if it brings new fans into Trek.
I don't know if it's because I'm still a kid at heart but I really enjoyed it!
Are they going to rescue the cat in episode 2?
If they don’t we riot!
I know it's a setup episode - but I had issues staying engaged with it. I watch all Trek - so I'll continue to watch, but this first episode didn't do a ton for me. I also didn't care for Lower Decks' first episode either - and I love that now. We'll see how it goes.
To me it felt like this was about 85% Star Wars, which I did not like at first. I love Star Wars when it's in a Star Wars show, but... it becomes a lot more Trek once they find the Protostar. Those phasers! Total conjecture here, but maybe that's on purpose and they're setting up a series that subtly compares the two. Lure kids in with Star Wars tropes they're familiar with, and then slowly show how the Trek world is "a more civilized age" to aspire to. I'm intrigued. We'll see how it shakes out.
I really enjoy the Ups & Downs series. Is there a plan to go back through previous Star Trek shows episode by episode?
I would watch that.
I'd definitely watch that, that's a stellar idea.
I don't know if they still are but Trekyards was reviewing old episodes from TNG.
Mmh the cat kid could be. A caitian, kzinti or a Third cat races that I dont remind on it's name. We have minimum 3 cat people races in star trek canon
It far exceeded my expectations. It looked like crap when I heard about it and saw previews, but I was surprised and it's looking good so far.
Is this Trek’s answer to the Clone wars?
I'm flattered you think I know what I'm doing
Wonder if after the Darker/Edgier Star Treks, like Picard, this kid's show would avoid hate.
Hope so anyway.
Thanks for making and uploading this ups and downs video so quickly. I loved the show. Almost as good as lower decks. A great way to fight the winter blues these next ten weeks. Thank You to everyone who made it.
As a small, nimble ship, and with its disembarkation ramp, It seems to me like the Protostar is meant to be used like the Normandy in Mass Effect.
I liked this a lot. The animation is great, the music is spectacular, and the episode played out like an animated feature film. Kudos to all involved.
Let's start this off by addressing the FREQUENT "criticism " with this series. YES this series seems very much in the veign of Clone Wars, Rebrls, Resistance and Bad Batch. But THAT'S NOT AN ISSUE. Particularly given how popular those shows were 1 popular and 2 (as the Showrunners have said) grew the fanbase. Ok that's out of the way now to the positives. Ok so we have A LOT of Alpha quadrant species at that labor and prison camp. I saw Alurian, Catian in conjunction with Tellarite and Medusan. Which we'll talk about that later. They teased a fair amount of how things are going to happen and I'm along for the ride. The pacing was quick but because of how much is being set up, it's completely understandable. From the tease we got about the Diviner allowing the kidnapping of species from across multiple quadrants (orphans and prisoners) is a REAL fascinating concept, especially since we don't know what species Dal is. All in all, I enjoyed it and look forward to seeing how things play out. Also Jason Manzoukus(Adrian Pimento in 99, Derek in The Good Place)was born to play a Tellarite
The whole, "Too many alpha quadrant species" thing is so easily explained though. How many species had the Caretaker taken before Voyager showed up? What if the bad lands wasn't the only place where he took people from?
All my complaints/concerns were addressed in this before I even watched the video. I’ll talk about it all after I watch it. Just wanted to say thanks for addressing them because I was watching it at first thinking about Star Wars way too much.
Just add another cetaceran observation.
When Protostar was firing phaser full spread its the similar firing angle same as voyager fight dragon's teeth battle in season 6 episode 7.
There was another Lirurian on the mining rig on the outer rim next to dar
Except for a little Star Wars-yness at times, I thought it was wonderful. Great unique ensemble and a pretty smart kids show.
Bloody love these videos. I can’t even wait until after I’ve seen the episodes sometimes
i hope they add more to the crew, zero did say the protostar needed at least 20, a couple side/background characters would help make the ship feel less lonely
maybe save the kitty.
I did enjoy the 1st episode but it felt much more like Star Wars Clone Wars or Mass Effect so I hope they make it feel much more like Star Trek in subsequent episodes by including more known alien races, ships and location!
The incidental music had a Kelvin movies feel to it and the ship emerging through water…also a Kelvin nod in my opinion. They even say “oh no not the water.” Overall 10/10.
Also as an Easter egg I would’ve included the musical references to the past series because I definitely heard some Voyager inspired background music and some Kelvin timeline music as well… Very impressed & excited to see where this series is going to go. Also, love the theory that this could potentially be linked to the caretaker 🙋🏼♂️
I loved this first episode. Really great feel to it, beautiful visuals, and interesting characters.
Honestly? As I expected this is pretty good. If I saw this as a kid I'd probably be quite scared too, honestly. Yes its cartoonish, but... in a good way. Me like.
Show, don't tell. Kids, you're smart, figure it out. Adults, you're smart. Prodigy gets this right.
Star Trek is thinking, feeling, and weird. Not a definitive list, but this pilot definitely made me think, made me feel, and definitely made me go "Well, that was weird. ...Whelp, it's Star Trek, roll with it."
They're not smart at all, but this show isn't all that complex. If they can successfully tie their own shoes, then following it shouldn't be a noteworthy challenge.
I feel like the Caitian kitten is going to be used as leverage somehow, if not trained up and sent after them.
Also a thought on the various Alpha Quadrant species being in the Delta Quadrant - it won't be a mystery to new viewers, because they won't have any idea who belongs where.
That didn't feel like 45 minutes. Great fun!!
I had a feeling I was going to like this show no matter what direction it went in, or how made for kids it was, but wow! This was seriously amazing!
We're still early, but I have a sneaking suspicion that Hologram Janeway is going to be pulling a con on the "new recruits." I'm thinking she/the ship's computer was spying on the kids, at least from the moment Rok-Tahk activated the systems (maybe earlier) and that Janeway is going to be playing dumb with the kids, pretending to have mistaken them for new recruits and "using" them to save themselves and the ship. This would be a very Janeway way to do things in a pinch, especially if she's saving them in the process. There's no way even a damaged Janeway hologram would fall for the things the kids say in the trailer for the next episode so I think she's doing this, playing dumb, to help them and the ship at the same time.
Although they never said "catian" in the episode, when Gwen spoke to it the subtitles said "speaking catian".
If they don’t save the Caitian at some point imma be mad. Can imagine the dad using her as a hostage if Gwyn willingly stays with the crew. But yeah, need to save the kitten.
Seriously though, solid pilot. Enjoyed it way more than Farpoint, Caretaker or Binary Stars.
this episode sucked me in way more then discoverys first episode, cant wait to see where this goes
Down: "Hologram Janeway" should've identified itself as the "Emergency Command Hologram."
I enjoyed it a lot, surprised me. I just hope it keeps that star trek bright hopeful feeling.
THis was a good episode i am looking foward to more
Very "Clone Wars," and "Rebels," but with better animation. I enjoyed it, but loved "Voyager."
The USS Protostar seems like a very small Federation vessel, like a scout ship. Might even be smaller than Defiant/or Franklin
I think it was really well done for a pilot episode. Very well done!
I enjoyed it for sure :)
But here's a weird criticism. With everything you can do with CG these days, I think they might have made it TOO alien and different. It could literally be any space tv show other than there's a federation ship in it and a Janeway hologram.
Any other Trek feels like Trek, this one didn't.
Perhaps I'm being too harsh?
Anyway, as I said, enjoyed it and will keep watching it for what it is. Cool looking sci-fi TV show.
Remember this is not just for established fans. Your opinion but a little harsh. Saying its not trek is like saying a Disney fairy tale is not Disney because it doesn't have Prince Charming and a beautiful princess and an evil Stepmother in it.
@@andrewmurray1550 At the start I also thought it did not really feel like Star Trek. But then... Oh, yeah, it definitely is! I liked that a lot.
great show i must say as a long time fan they really balanced the fan service and setting up a new and exciting story for new trekkies, looking forward to more eps
Really enjoyed the episode, but a thumbs down for leaving the Caitian behind.
Visuals and Audio were amazing.
The main theme for Prodigy was composed by Michael Giacchino, who also wrote the scores for the Kelvin timeline Star Trek films.
Personally really enjoyed that pilot. Looking forwards to part two.
Going to have to avoid this channel for a while until Prodigy is available in the UK. So disappointed that it wasn't released the day after like Discovery, Picard and Lower Decks.
Can't wait for Paramount to realise there's a world beyond the USA. Would be great to watch this show legally.
Yes, I really had hopes that they had learned something.
There are rumors that they want to bring their new/old streaming service to Europe sometime next year and therefore don't want to sell it to Netflix or Amazon or...
Let's see if there's someone left wanting to watch it if they finally made it...
@@Skyeefo let's hope not! I've already got Disney, Netflix and Amazon and I'm certainly not subscribing to anything else!
I think the bit about translators being outlawed is great thematically and speaks to the mind of the Diviner. He clearly doesn't like the Federation and the federation is, at it's core, cooperation. preventing communication between everyone so they are unable to cooperate makes perfect sense then. And we see, once the main characters are able to communicate, they band together. I think that's going to be a major theme in this show. likewise, I think at some point we'll get a call back to the others getting ready to leave without Dal, instead choosing to rescue him at some later point. and I don't care if I can see that coming so long as they pay off it good.
I am a bit late to the Progidy Party, but I'm catching up in between episodes of Picard! I 👍 what has been shown!
Fun show aimed a kids? Good thing this isn't a Star Wars show or there would already be 500 youtube channels dedicated solely to how much they hate it. lol
What ages group is it aimed at? Think its suitable for me to watch with my 3yr old?
Absolutely it’s totally a family show
I love your show UP & DOWN on Star Trek! Please keep up the outstanding work!
Dude, you about to get an X-Ray? What's with the shirt?
Love the show! LLAP everybody!
Ludicrous? Don't suppose you've seen "Spaceballs" ^^;
The villains in this have a more Star Wars feel than Star Trek but I'm not saying that's a bad thing.
What can I say other than WOW ! Loved everything about it and I wasn’t sure that I would. Trek is here to stay if they keep making shows like this.
Also Sean! I’m not sure if others have pointed it out, but the subtitles confirmed that that little cat child WAS a Caitian!
I’m waiting for the kid to get home for us to watch together. They are excited
CBS made a really good Star Trek series finally. Hoping the rest continue to impress.
Well actually Nickelodeon made it.
