    I personally believe the first mod that should be done is the Transmission. Trans is the weakest link. Then start on the motor mods

    I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 quad cab. It’s my first diesel, bought it 14 yrs ago with 110K now had 225K. Trucks been good to me motor wise. I would also recommend, getting a built trans. I added a airdog and a Bully dog PMT tuner and I smoked my trans, had it rebuilt that didn’t last. Ended up with a DB Performance Plus wasn’t cheap but no issues since.

    great vids man!! it would be cool if you made a video bring more specific like this is best for a xxxhp towing, racing, daily driving. and what the best set up would be for a truck that can do it all. let's say a 700hp build. and what trans upgrades would be best too or the best place to get a built trans

    I put a lot of highway miles since I work for the railroad and I tow 10k Ibs easily 6/8 times a year when we go camping. So reliability and mileage are paramount to me but more power never hurt anyone

    Thanks Greg, that really kinda helped me. Now it’s just deciding on my goals with the truck. I know it’s going to be a daily driver and used for towing but I also want some extra power

    That sounds like some pretty good advice. It's like every other mechanical system, you need to size your parts to match your end goal.

    Also a VERY important thing to note is, too many guys focus on only the engine and never touch the brakes or transmission. All three should be kept in mind throughout a build, or you'll be regretting it significantly.

    very helpful sir thank you. I know what you're saying by those are your thoughts and opinions, however we've all seen what those thoughts and opinions put on the track, the dirt, and towing. so that gives a respective bar or example if you will for myself or others possibly to build to. your 08 is exactly what I want or be usable for me, 1000 horse would would be fun as hell but not reasonable for me. the tow ram would give me all I need for towing and then some, daily driver manners, plus plenty left under the hood just to jack with people

    Hey Greg on this topic. (or anybody in the comments) last week I bought a 90 4wd cummins. It's 100% bonestock. I would like to wake it up a little. I daily drive it and I sometimes will tow with it. It's non intercooled and I've considered intercooling it. But I dont think it needs it. I would like to do a small fuel pin and a 3200 gov spring. As well as stage one 50hp POD injectors. (the stock ones have a small leak so I thought of I'm going to pull them to fix the leak that would be the time to upgrade) Ive got 4in exhaust on its way and Im going to put a better air cleaner on it. I also want to do a EGT, boost and trans temp gauges. Is this a good start for my truck to get more power and still keep fuel mileage, as well as not over power the transmission.

    Hey GREG.
    so I have a question for you. I have a 1992 fire truck with an 8.3 L Cummins with the Jake break as well. My problem is I have tons of white smoke at idle. I suspect at least one leaking injector. Would you be able to show how to get to the injectors and also what injector would be good to replace all of them with to get more horsepower. I’m not looking for a ton of power or high price injectors I just want to wake it up a little bit.

    Hey Greg great videos. Your really up on all this stuff. I have a 2006 that I’m currently looking at upgrading turbo and 2nd gen swap. I’m stock cp3 and plan on 50 hp injectors. I’ve installed the fleece power flow lift pump. I’m looking for 550 hp or so. I want the truck to keep egt down and tow better than stock. I have the edge tuner but plan on efi. I also need to keep my exhaust brake (the old Jacobs that dodge offered back in the day). So any thoughts on the turbo? Fleece told me the 463 2nd gen was too laggy. Should or even a cheeta. What downpipe will I need on 2nd gen to keep my exhaust brake. Thanks again

    One of my favorite channels on UA-cam. Love your trucks. Just out of curiosity, I'm trying to get my 06 5.9 to 700hp. I was thinking about doing a s369 with a 10 or 12mm pump and other supporting mods (tuning,springs and trans, I already have studs and hardened 12v rods). Now my problem is that I just put in 50hp injectors (I know this will be my limiting factor). Could 700 still be achieved with the 50's? I'm kind of starting to look at 100% overs. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    • @_greg_a
      @_greg_a  7 років тому +3

      50HP injectors or 50% over injectors? The new SXE Borg 369 i believe I have seen some common rails do 700, the new SXE line really has some impressive flow #s, to hit 700 a 10MM pump will do that and 100% will be quite a bit of fuel for a S300 charger, I might try and push your current injectors see where your max is and then use that to judge how much more fuel you need for that goal.

    • @cranomics
      @cranomics 7 років тому +1

      GREG_ALBERALLA awesome, and yeah I put 50hp injectors in. I've heard the SXE line is really good and that's the turbo I was thinking about running. Thanks for the quick reply! Really appreciate the feedback.

    I love you videos man keep it up ... I got a question I have a 4 1/2 inch lift on my Dodge Ram 3500 03 .. my guessing is that when the lift was done they didn't put new extended shocks or idk I really don't know about lift .my question is how can I make my suspension better what do you recommend me doing

    • @_greg_a
      @_greg_a  7 років тому +2

      With a 4.5 in lift there is no way stock shocks would work so they are most likely aftermarket, now you could possibly look at some better shocks for it, like fox or king shocks, even bilstein would be a great upgrade, after that I would make sure your front coils are "progressive" coils, they are known to have a much better ride.

    GREG_ALBERALLA Hey man whats your opinion on smarty tuning. i have had 2 different EFI live tuners try to tune my truck with no luck. I have tried both stock turbo setup and and a sxe s363 (s363/68/.91 t4 2nd gen swap),(2007 5.9 stock injectors, 48re fully built, fass150, 5' exhaust). with egt problems on both and massive amounts of lag with the s363. i have had the injectors tested and they passed. would i have to upgrade injectors? All I'm looking for in power is just a better power curve, good spool up and a nice top end without high egts and good fuel milage. I tow vehicles sometimes and haul sleds to the mountains occasionally.

    So in your opinion. I have a 98.5 vp44 with an nv4500. Already did the 5th gear fix, bought my upgraded clutch but havent installed yet, and have a fass 165 I put on yesterday. I have about 10k to spend as of right now on it. My plan is a daily driveable 550 horse give or take, i wouldn't be opposed to 600 or more if possible with the ability to tow light still, like 7k, very very rare anything above. Already have a 5" exhaust and 4" down pipe installed too. Was wondering is if 150, 175, or 200 hp Injectors will be best. And I want to try and stay single turbo but dont know what size, I've heard of anything from 62-66, plus what's a good cam still? 188/220? Or is that a bit much?

    Curious what your thoughts on diesel power source 3rd gen swap vs let’s say fleece second gen swap? I’m just looking to get rid of my vgt and be able tow my boats and get better fuel economy. My 2012 6.7 cummins is currently deleted, efi live, snow performances water meth and 5” from the turbo back. I’m looking for suggestions. I’m not looking to race the truck. It works every day.

      I forgot it has an aftermarket air intake as well.

    I'm doing a s366 with a airdog 165 and stock injectors for my dmax. Should work out alright

    I'm wanting to get a second Gen Cummins and wondered what the general max output without smoke and daily driver I would be able to get out of it. Both 12v and 24v

    • @keiferjanz3197
      @keiferjanz3197 7 років тому

      Connor Milroy both are hard to reach higher horse power levels with out any smoke. 24v while it is an electronically controlled injection pump the injectors are fully mechanical and like the 12 valve only offer one injection and the fuel atomization is lower because the injection system on older diesel are 4000-5000psi compared to common rail at 10000psi-30000psi depending on the generation of common rail system.

      With s port and helix (p-pump) there is a lot of fine tuning one can do with the pump to dial it in for cleaner running while having added hp, but it's something that one needs to ether have experience and know what your doing with or have it done by an injection shop.

    • @cmoutdoors3965
      @cmoutdoors3965 7 років тому

      Keifer Janz I would just need it to pass e test and in the case of the 24v would I be able to adjust it so it would pass then still be able to get it back easily with like a tuner and if so how much power would I be looking at just general estimate without smoking too too much

    • @keiferjanz3197
      @keiferjanz3197 7 років тому

      Connor Milroy for a daily driver a 24v with a aftermarket lift pump to keep the vp44 injection pump well feed, 4inch exhaust and a cold air intake with a programmer like a smarty would be good for added power but good drivability and all you do is place the truck back to factory tuning with the programmer before the smog test and I would think it would pass.

    Hey Greg I don't want to bug you too much but I've got an 05 Cummins that has bully dog tuning, an intake horn, 5in straight pipe, and cold air intake. I was considering going for the second gen swap kit from fleece performance with the 67mm turbo and I was wondering first of all if you would recommend a different turbo setup and second if I were to get that turbo would I have trouble spooling it?

    • @bentripp739
      @bentripp739 7 років тому

      And also when I get the turbo other than headstuds do you think any other modifications would be necessary?

    • @_greg_a
      @_greg_a  7 років тому

      Id prob recommend a lift pump as well, and it might be a little lazy without some fueling upgrades but shouldn't be terrible.

      GREG_ALBERALLA thanks for the reply! And yeah I'm trying to do this on the limited budget of a 17 year old haha so I'm definitely not looking into injectors quite yet. I'm just looking for something a little more than stock seeing as with my boost fooler and tuning in only seeing about 31psi of boost and I do daily drive the truck so I'm not looking for ridiculous amounts of power either, but I will definitely look into a fuel sump and lift pump

    45% over injectors, 10mm pump, s362 over s475 compounds and efi live good for 650-700?

    great stuff. i got a first gen 12v. its all stock and could use a rebuild. when i rebuild it i want to get it around 600. it would be a daily and tow truck (i work on a farm) but i also want to be able to hit the skinny pedal and have that instant power like my 5.3 chevy has. i want to go single turbo if i can. not sure your opinions. help? thanks man

      Jacob Hyde if u want 600hp out of ur truck ur going to have to put the p7100 injector pump on it.

      Around 400 is a good stoping point. I seen one do 500hp but at that level u take a risk of the ve running away

    • @bigmurph5745

      Jacob Hyde you will never make more than 500(and thats with nitrous) out of a first gen if you keep it VE powered...to do 600 on a 12 valve that would be a lighting fast responsive and great towing rig would be a 215 ppump with all the standard upgrades along with something along the lines of a 363/475 compound kit and some 6x13 or 6x14 injectors...just my opinion but im a die hard 12 valve guy and currently trying to hit the 450+ VE club with my 91

    Is a compound turbo set up different from twin? or the same?

    • @_greg_a
      @_greg_a  7 років тому +1

      The technical correct wording for a diesel twin setup is "compound" Twins in the entire automotive sense refers more to a V8 with twin turbos, 1 per side of the motor if that makes sense

      Thats what Im running on the competition truck but there are plenty of 1k+ hp trucks still using the stock intake horn, its not as big as a restriction as everyone thinks, but cosmetically they look good.

    • @Korupt7676

      Jose Olmos exhaust wont cause smoke. if u have a 12 valve turn the fuel up on your fuel pump. thats the easiest. but be careful. you wont get black smoke from just an exhaust. it has to do with the fuel system

      Life isn't about making your truck smoke... It's about having an equal balance of fuel to air to achieve maximum efficiency and power, unless you're trying to be a douche and make the diesel community look even worse... which, in that case, get a gas vehicle, because you obviously can't keep yourself from acting like a kid.
