This was so helpful! Thank you Lord. I thought I was the only one who struggled with this but in fact its the sinful nature. This points us to Christ. How great is this Christ who Is glorious beyond compare! Bless the Lord o my soul! For you abound in truth and steadfast love I long to only obey you more in secret and in public help me Lord your beauty disarms me thee is no one like you here the cries of your struggling saint to believe and trust and wait for you for you withhold nothing from me especially since you gave your Son. This is my prayer for myself and my brothers and sisters who are in this same struggle we all feel alone at time but we are not you are with us and we have each other. Thank you Father For the Lord Jesus in Him the law of the Spirit of life has set us free from the law of sin and death.
I’m more confused than ever.
So am I.
With some believers the law is established by faith in their hearts, seen to be as a schoolmaster to bring us to faith, belief of the truth, and therefore, like Paul, they delight in it after the inward man, because grace teaches them to. Both legalism and antinomianism indicate a lack of spiritual understanding, and a lack of love and gratitude to God for such amazing grace, found in Christ alone.
Well said
Beautiful explanation!! 🤗 🤗 🤗 Praise God in the Highest!! 🤗 🤗 🤗
I'm currently listening to the book “The Whole Christ” by Sinclair B. Ferguson which talks about this subject. Thank you for such a quick and easy explanation!
Hyper grace and the we must follow the ten commandments crowd both lack the power of the Holy Spirit and are doctrines of the carnal Christian, IMO.
Could you give me more info? it doesn't quite explain today's world style of antinomianism.
One of my fav preachers!!
What is his name?

Absolutely, and I never tire of his Scottish accent
Addjoa preko baah Me either! The Scottish accents are my favs!
Jesus abolished the law according to Ephesians 2:15.
Christ died for our sins and rose again. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)
This is great, but I really wish the last part was explained more!
@Deb Harris I was pleased to see your comment! I have been thinking about this very subject a whole lot over the last year. The moral law is summed up in the 10 commandments, and those are summed up by "love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength; and love your neighbor as yourself."
The moral law is always binding. It is not the moral law that God's grace releases us from. God's grace frees us from the curse of the law, which is the punishment brought on by disobedience. That point gets confused often.
Actually, by God's grace we are made alive and given new hearts to desire to keep God's law. In other words, it is not the law that saves us. First we are saved, and then in continual repentance we become more and more obedient to God's law.
The moral law is different than the civil law (which are related to how people were to be judged in civil situations) and different than the ceremonial law (which includes things like ritual washings and directions on sacrifices.
Hope that is helpful!
@Deb Harris Yes! The Whole Christ is a wonderful book. The Marrow of Modern Divinity is also very worth reading. Admittedly I am a Ferguson fan and had him for two classes last semester. :)

If you want it explained more, read these books:
Gospel of Matthew
Gospel of Mark
Gospel of Luke
Gospel of John
@@andrewdavis6310 Very well said, Andrew. Three things came to mind while reading your great response. 1) We can find all ten commandments in the New Testament that we are still to keep, because God never changes (Malachi 3:6 and James 1:17). As for the fourth commandment, Hebrews chapter 4 explains God's sabbath rest in detail for us believers. 2) We are to love the law, as David shows in Psalm 119. And, 3) Repentance is a commandment by God. John the Baptist and Jesus's first word when they went out to preach was "repent." So I am glad you brought up repentance. David, Daniel and even Job repented (Job 42:5-6).
But I really loved what you said, "First we are saved, and then in continual repentance we become more and more obedient to God's law." Martin Luther said as much in his first 4 theses, and, paraphrasing Luther, "A Christian life is a life of repentance."
Amen, and God bless you, Andrew.
3 people decided to ignore this message and hit the thumbs down ;)
Legalism in short is adding to God's finish work.
how can a christian be an advocate of a free grace movement with out being an antinomian
Dr. Sinclair, thank you for this wonderful lesson! For me, this puzzle is a type of, "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?" understanding. In Genesis chapter 1, "Wisdom and Grace" were built into God's creation story. In Genesis chapter 2, the commandment, "Thy shall not eat of the Tree of Knowledge" is by grace to protect man from dying. (Note, Eve had not been created). The crafty serpent tricks Eve to become a legalist. Next Eve becomes an antinomist. Sin in not revealed until Adam take the bite. thereby giving birth to Original Sin. God prophesize's Genesis 3:15. "He shall bruse your head, you shall bite his heal".
Moralism without the message of God's grace is sadly rampant in modern pulpits
Thanks for sharing! God bless!
Brother ; I believe with all my heart , the sacred scriptures teach us that we , who are saved by grace , are free from the law of Moses . The law was given by Moses to Israel to expose sin by the knowledge of the Commandments and our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ , that we might be justified by faith .----Galatians 3 : 24 BUT the law could not give life because our sin nature would not let us keep it .----Romans 8: 7-8 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. On the other hand , even though the law was good , it brought death . The best example of Christians being free from the law of Moses is found from chapter 3 of Galatians through chapter 5 of Galatians . Also ; Acts chapter 15 : 1-29 . Many like myself believe if you have been born again , you are eternally secure in Christ Jesus , because of many scriptures stating this fact . WE IN NO WISE BELIEVE THIS BELIEF IS A LISCENSE TO SIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THESE ACCUSATIONS ARE A WORK OF THE DEVIL BECAUSE HE WOULD LIKE EVERY CHRISTIAN TO BELIEVE THAT CHRIST IS NOT ABLE TO KEEP THEM SAVED BUT I READ WHERE JESUS IS NOT ONLY THE AUTHOR BUT ALSO THE FINISHER OF OUR FAITH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!---Hebrews chapter 12 :2----------------------------------------------------------Ernest E. Johnson
+Pagrator Tersot..You are Right! BUT..he was snarky First! Lol. Seriously..you are Right! I must Forgive those who do not appreciate Jesus in the way that I Do! Thank You..for reminder!
Such clarity. Thank you!!
+Dylan..I am so sorry..you cannot read. Life must be very hard for you.
So is it free grace salvation or lordship salvation??
What a false dichotomy!
The believer is freed from sin. The Gentiles never had the law.
So do we strive to live according to God's moral law or not?
About the legalism, its like turning a law into an idol
Recently i keep having a habit by thinking legalism is superior to God which is an obviously stupid idea.
Where the term Legalism came from is a Chinese philosophy
Legalism is closer to satan than antinomianism, look at the Pharisees, always going around and pointing the finger at people, when they themselves didn’t keep the law, but made Gods law seem burdensome to men.
Then consider satan the accuser, accusing Christian’s and prophets ….. the devil himself! The devil Is pointing the finger at people saying they’ve done the wrong thing, and yet his name means opposed , for he is opposed to all the things of God.
If I may encourage you In something I’ve learned; learn the true meaning of righteous, and you will see that since the fall it’s not possible that we can have any righteousness of our own. Hope this is helpful in any way. God bless ❤️
Yes 😂🎉 what is now? Usa is condemning for racist. Time is telling that american's law system is collapsing. Only legalism is superior.
Scottish
Legalism is trusting in the knowledge of good and evil to earn God's favor. Antinomianism is trusting in Christ whose moral perfection earns God's favor for us.
Victor P ummm Christ’s moral perfection does earn God’s favor for us
@@ipodtouch573
So have you died by faith to the knowledge of good and evil?
@Deb Harris
Do you want to please God by observing the moral law?
@I See You
Which is trusting in Christ's moral perfection.
Dr. Ferguson strawmanned legalism and responded to it with antinomianism. Legalism isn't "obeying the commandments" it is obeying the commandments as a means for forgiveness and justification rather than relying on Christ's forgiveness. Obedience to the commandments is a good thing and all Christians ought to. Obedience does not justify but it does prevent condemnation, is the evidence of loving God, and requires us to ask forgiveness a lot less.
Why does Christ quote from the Old Covenant and then add ""But I say...", in Matthew chapter 5?
Why does the Apostle Paul compel the Galatian believers to "cast out" the Sinai Covenant of "bondage", in Galatians 4:24-31?
Why does the author of the Book of Hebrews say we are not come to Mount Sinai, in Hebrews 12:18?
But are we come instead to the New Covenant, in Hebrews 12:22-24?
Based on Colossians 2:16-17, are we to judge others in Sabbath keeping?
Are there two different sets of commandments in John 15:10?
Based on the above, no member of the New Covenant Church has ever broken the 4th commandment.
Every day of the week is our Sabbath rest.
Can anyone claim to keep the 4th commandment on the wrong day of the week, at the wrong time of day, by doing only some work?

What is the matter with you? Jesus Said.."Obey My Sayings and Seek Me and My Righteousness..I Will Give you everything you Need and Deliver You from evil.". That is Jesus Gospel and Jesus Promise. Apparently
Jesus Thinks Obeying commandments Is Important! Do You think Jesus was Lying to us? God Gave us commandments For OUR Benefit. Jesus came to Save US From OUR Sins. You are preaching Paul. He is Not Jesus and did Not teach what Jesus Taught. Satan Told Eve the same thing you are telling us.."You don't need to obey any commandments." God Won't Care..He will take care of you..anyway." and everyone in the OT pretty much followed suite. The bible is stories of disobedient people..even the so-called good ones.
You don't know anything.

Jesus Gives Healthy Balance. Jesus Said to Avoid Pride..Greed..Lust..Anger and Worry. These sins will destroy your Peace. And I will forgive you when you have trouble and Help you live in Peace..the Healthy Way to Live. He says it all in Matthew 5 6 7.

It is much easier to follow Jesus. I will Stay with Him..Thank You. You are welcome to Paul.
