    Series: All In for Jesus
    Speaker: Bill Bertsche
Why is legalism so dangerous to our spiritual health? Legalism is believing that we can earn or keep our favor with God by what we do. It flows from the failure to be humbled, broken, amazed, and satisfied by the grace of God in Christ. In this sermon, we learn about three dangers of legalism to avoid: a judgmental spirit, an insistence on man-made rules, and a marginalization of Christ as our supreme focus.
    Colossians 2:16-19

Please pray jesus can help me rid me of all the legalism that brainwashed in my head. It was my first church full of rules and legalism with no grace. God help me to get it right.

I can relate totally, Wanda. I found emersing myself in plenty of 'grace-filled' messages of God and lots and lots of prayer was what led me away from legalism. There were amazing, lovely people in my first, quite legalistic church but I look at it now as church kindergarten and I needed to leave it, in order to grow in God. It managed to give me an up-close and personal relationship with my Creator but I also needed to grow in grace and mercy. The main characteristics of salvation, in my view. I also needed to grow in knowledge of the things of God. I believe now that God led me out of my first church, in order to have a greater, more full relationship with Him and Jesus. My prayers are with you. God bless.

What a breath of fresh air sermon.. After watching a legalistic UA-cam Christian channel for weeks it made me feel guilty and uptight! It's liberating to hear something like this for a change..

If you would like to please pray for all believers who are legalistic, and for the legalistic teachers, for God’s grace to pour into their lives

The first church I went to as a baby Christian was totally pharisaical. We were all focused on looking super-spiritual while putting other Christians down for not being like us. We even would put each other down. If we went to church twice on Sunday we were more "spiritual" than one who went to church once a week. Spirituality was defined by external behaviors.
There was no love. I don't remember Christ being mentioned at all. Everything was focused on man-centered, self-worship.

Pensacola Christian College (PCC) and Bob Jones University (BJU) struggle with this, especially PCC. Lots of legalistic rules and students.

I’m listening to sermons on legalism because my younger sister and brother-in-law are really steeped in their seventh day Adventist beliefs and we are concerned about their 5kids. They have pulled them out of school and they are all vegans putting the fear into the poor kids of eating meat or mixing with “the world” my mum asked one of the kids why cant you go to School? And he answered “my parents are trying to protect us” they sit there and watch all our kids eat eggs, cakes etc and they always say “we’re not allowed to eat that” whilst looking sad. They ddnt come to my daughter’s 10th birthday on the weekend because it was the sabbath, instead they dragged all their kids across town after church to sit with a young Catholic teen who changed his mind about being baptised Adventist to convince him to come back to SDA church. We (my family) are really concerned at how extreme they are becoming. They longer wear their wedding rings (1 Peter 3:3)and my sister does not wear makeup and they don’t acknowledge Christmas so the poor kids miss out on decorating Christmas tree 😞. Everything you’re preaching is spot on. I just continue to pray for them.
