Watching verstappen on his last lap live i said no way he will get p1. I was honestly shocked to see him basically riding the wall for max speed and take the position.
is that a pun
SUPER MAX BABY
Did you watch any of the free practices or previous qualifying sessions at all?? Red Bull was consistently putting up 2-3 tenths faster final sectors than Aston Martin. No surprise he caught up at all. Your comment shows how little you must have watched the weekend
@@David_james77 no one was running full tilt during practice. Times weren’t that low in the 11s
@@David_james77are you okei?
Alonso had better corner exit and traction almost the entire lap, but Max shortened one of the last corners by prioritising corner entry, and he got a better run through the last sector because of it. Amazing that two 2x world champions have different cars with different strengths, driving in a different way, and they still finish within a tenth of a second. One of the best qualifying sessions ever.
It's Monaco, no body updates their car for Monaco because it's no relevant track to see performance of the upgrades because it's slow track in comparison with Barcelona or some other racing tracks there we will see the difference between cars.
The redbull was still the stronger car
@@theracingban source?
@@theracingban It might have been but Max didn't gain lots of time on the straights which is where their car is the strongest.
The red bulls where able to drive that car in 4th gear in that one corner whilst everybody else had to drive it in 3rd gear
that q3 was absolutely unbelievable
ik shits going crazy when ocon is on pole for few seconds
"It is the car" Max cutting off the corner in sector 3 brought him in front of Alonso. You definately need super fast cars for cutting corners. Or not. Long live the f1 fanbases!!!
this was the first qualifying that i watched now im always gonna compare future qualifyings to this, hope they will also be this amazing
Better than any race this season so far
@@MrSociophobia true Monaco was very entertaining to watch, especially after everyone saying it’s a biring race
Please don't ever stop making this 3D analysis. I love it. Appreciate your hard work. Thank you for sharing your talent with the world.
for real!
Agreed! These are absolutely incredible
Never saw Max pushing himself in a street quali since Jeddah 2021. Only he finished his masterpiece this time. Bravo.
That was not Syngapour 2021?
@@AnthonnyAndria There wasn't a race in Singapore
He learned from his mistake, and he's not too much under pressure lately unlike 2021 when he was fighting for the title for the first time in his career
he wasn't pushing that hard tho until the final sector, knows he doesnt need to as perez is starting last
Dude that suadi lap your talking about would go down as the best quali lap I’ve ever seen…. And the lap wasn’t even finished. The data showed him still on throttle at the time of collision
The way VER caught up to ALO in the second of the swimming pool chicane...then rascass....was extraordinary!!!
wtf is a "rascass"?
@@nanookrubsit would guess one of the turns is called rascass
@@bonaleskennp.3020 "FASTER" CAR" not in Monaco, so disagree. reason was Max took deeper line in sector 3 exit compared to Alonso. this gave him quicker exit and done better to the finish line
Watch Peter Windsor's analysis. Rascass is a section after the swimming pool shicane.
@@nanookrubsit how do you not know rascasse bruh it’s one of the most famous corners in the sport 😭
RB carry a lot more speed through tight corners, that along with Max giving it all (I really think it was the first time this year he did it), you can't deny excellency from both the car and the driver on this lap.
Lmao yes, he's being comfortable for a while
Yeah, this one was all Max. The RB19's strengths are long straights and high speed turns. This lap was all about Max. The graphics don't actually show the different lines Max used in sector 3, especially at Rasscas.
RB19’s strengths was said to be its long straight speed.. But for this particular lap, it seems that RB19’s manoeuvrability was shown through that tight corners.. It afforded Max to brake late into the corners and position the car for better exit acceleration..
Also track evolution, Max being the final driver to start the lap certainly helped.
Its not RB its Max
He can take a much tighter line through slow corners and somehow manages to keep momentum going.
Checo and Alonso do the classic wide entry 'V' type corners but Alonso is alot better at it..
Peter Windsor did a really good analysis on his channel
Seeing my two favorite drivers fight like that today was amazing. A shame we've never had this battle before, but I really hope we get a few races of them on equal cars at some point before Alonso retires.
Tomorrow will probably be as close as we're going to get to fulfilling your wish..
The cars are nearly equal.
@@RecappedToon No. No they aren't. Quali is a bit closer, but on race day, Redbull are untouchable. Monaco is probably the only chance teams have beating them on merit.
@@RecappedToon not even close.
God I'm hoping so hard Alonso jumps Max in the pits if not the first corner.
That Red Bull is immense under braking. But Max is on a different planet right now. Brushed every wall on the final corners. A millimetre one way, it's a crash. A millimetre the other way, he's starting P2. A very special last sector.
Yep, type of laps you can't do on a race, pretty sure he risked it all as he would have got p2 anyways
Yes, the commitment on those last 2 corners was awesome.
Probably the same reason why Perez crashed in Q1. Damn, a stonker of a quali lap from the defending champ.
With a red bull i think alonso would be p1 for sure. Alonso is amazing. So is max. But think Alonso is slightly better
@@jessy8a10 Alonso in a RB would have smashed it. He almost beat the RB in an inferior car. It's the elephant in the room that no-one is mentioning.
The bravery of max on the brakes gave him the edge at the end, but Alonso's technical driving on the twisty sectors 1 & 2 is insane for his age. Mad respect for both
his car is just better
@@roberthak3695 HiS CaR iS JusT BetTer.
Yes yes
Massive car advantage especially under braking . It's laughable that people compare Alonso's car with the rb.
Alonso is showing that Max' habit of late braking is costing him time in the first sectors.
Without it, the difference could be 0,5s (aka an eternity) at the finish line
This was one of the more exciting quali’s in a long time. I just knew Alonso had Pole and Max snatched his heart out lol.
At this age...Alonso is a complete racer spirit....legend.
I immediately thought of this channel after seeing Max gain 3 tenths on the last sector after being down 2 tenths on the lap. Thank you. I needed this
This Fernando guy nailing it in his rookie season !
In his second season
I think he can become a two time world champion!
General life tip: try being original?
@@FloatLikeABee its boring... dont be boring
Another year with the same old joke?
Dude they just raced a few hours ago. This is amazing. Keep it up
I have no idea what black magic he uses. You cannot triangulate the car's location effectively with just the broadcast coverage. The telemetry data you can get from the official F1 timing API is not nearly enough for this kind of animation. I've worked with them and they jump around quite a bit and need a ton of smoothing before you get anything half-decent
@Casper probably just takes the mini-sector times and throws it on a generic racing line
I think he uses that driver cam thing from sky sports f1
@@AdityaRaj2912 it really doesn't matter what process he used. The fact that he can make a rendering in a few hours is awesome.
Qualifying is not a race lol
The Aston is not lacking mid acceleration that is for sure. Max has been crazy fast in sector 3.
But mid downforce.
Max style is different as he brakes earlier to carry more speed
To think that Alonso had him for a tenth, tenth a half nearly the entirety of the lap. Then Max comes and blows right past it in 2 corners. Incredible driving by both of them.
Bravo Alonso. Bravo max. Gracias.
Gotta see Leclerc and Ocon's laps too. Them taking the pole one after the other was just so fun to watch!
E' incredibile come Alonso a 42 anni e' stato davanti alla RedBull per quasi tutto il circuito ! Grande Fernando !
With an inferior car

Seeing Max and Alonso fighting for the Pole was breathtaking…Max just ranked up with that qualifying right up in the Universe
Que classificação. Histórica. Nas últimas curvas Verstappen foi cirúrgico e arrematou a pole.
its insane that VER is having to give his all against someone almost twice his age! ALO is a bit of a freak, both insanely talented drivers
this is what everybody need, to REALLY appreciate what they did... just amazing!
Thank you !!! I was waiting for this. Still unbelievable
Verstappen's lap is up there with Schumacher's 96 lap at Monaco. Down 2 tenths on Hill and made up 7 tenths in the final sector to be up 5 tenths and pole.
Thanks Max and Fernando. That was Epic.
Once I saw +200 on his final sector, I knew an unbelievable limit had to be pushed in the final corners. He did just that
Alonso was hauling the mail in the first two sectors, holy moly!!
Beautifully done and very informative 3D video. Thanks 👍
Love this. Really shows the difference in driving style. The times are obviously very close, but that last corner entry with the slightly later apex gives Verstappen that edge as he carries more speed through the exit. Would be great to have some classics, like Senna, who was a master of Monaco.
FIA should do something about the chicane coming out of the tunnel, IMO. I remember when it was put in (I'm old!) - there were some horrific crashes on the straight back in the day - but too much happens there causing penalties, contact etc. Maybe straighten it out just a little? Make it more of an S bend than a chicane? It would be wider, and the braking wouldn't be quite so hard on the approach. Just my thoughts.
great video as always, incredible how tight it was, it looks like the aston would caught him if the finish line was closer to t1
The second half of this lap from max reminded me of his quali lap in Jeddah 2021. Driving absolutely beyond the limit. Worked out this time :)).
Both so impresive. Verstappen creating magic and fighting till the end of the lap and Alonso flying at his 42 years like a 24 year old pilot. So great times for the actual f1.
that red bull has such a great stability when carrying a bit more speed at those S3 corners
no wonder Max was so confident in sending it
I was looking forward to this video, love the content!
Alonso got so close despite being in a much slower car. Crazy quali!
Alonso's car looked like a faster car in this video, especcially at acceleration
The Aston had much better traction then the RedBull.
It was easily the fastest car. Alonso threw it away but messing up sector 3.
Literally one of the slowest sector 3s even slower than Tsunoda, Norris, etc.
Monaco is the worst track for the RB cant capitalize on that straight line speed and the DRS. Nonetheless max pulled it off, this pole is cuz of the driver not the car. And like paper plane said alonso’s third sector couldve been better
how the fuck was Alonso's car slower? Are you blind or wtf?
Uau... Foi uma volta espetacular do SuperMax!
Amazing visualisation of how close the battle for pole actualy was. Thanks for your efforts and skill.
You got a subscriber. This is an excellent job and can imagine the hard work. Thanks a lot for this kind of an insight. To be honest, this should be on Palmers analysis. Thank you and you made my day.
Alonso took the swimming pool chicanes really rough and unsettled the car. That screwed him on preparing for the last 2 corners and went just a little too deep on the entry & had to break harder, so he carried less speed out of the corner into the last one.
Also Verstappen has a way of sacrificing the entry on chicanes, to get on the power quick exiting the chicane. You can see him really make up a lot of pace at the nouvelle chicane with that style.
And using some of the sponsors for extra track space helped a bit, too 😉
Touching the walls is only ever going to slow a car down.
But look at the telemetry, from turn 15 Max just holds fourth gear which encourages more momentum to build.
Look at where Max is holding the throttle, whereas Fernando is powering through the rev band like an animal.
This is why moments later Max has 2000 more revs and is going 20km faster than Fernando, who has changed from third, to fourth and then fifth gear. All the while Max has just kept it in fourth.
Thank you for this video. Nicely done.
I did enjoy the video presentation, in that one could compare directly the difference in speeds at different points on the course…..thank you!
Amazing mate, how was this made? How accurate are the racing lines?
i was wondering exactly the same! where does he get all the info needed for this "graph"?
From what I know the most common way of getting telemetry is Fast F1 Python library which contains XYZ coordinates with 10cm error delta. If you get the track map (2d or 3d), you can then create this.
The lines themselves aren't accurate, but the graphics are great. Max took completely different lines from everybody else except maybe Ocon in Sector3.
To add onto what has been said here, my assumption is that you take the list of location points provided through the Python library (basically a 3rd party tool that you can link your code to that provides access to an external set of tools or data, in this case F1 track locations), have the code do the math to compute a spline that passes through all the points, then run the car model through all those points in your 3D space. An alternative way would be to actually physics simulate the car moving between each point and use an interpolation method to construct a smooth curve between the points considering the entry velocity. You can determine the direction a number of ways, many of which involve using calculus to conpute the slope of the curve at the specific point the car is at, then align the model with the vector in that direction. The camera work at that point seems manually done.
@@mikemelina7395 true. There was an official Formula 1 side by side comparison and I think Max overtook Alonso already at the swimming pool chicane.
What an incredibly cool video. We absolutely NEED more stuff like this, really incredible
Amazing graphs, thanks
Great post. Thank you.
that quali today just shows how Alonso and Leclerc indeed got the pace over Verstappen, but shows how close it is, and how Verstappen's agressive but cool performance can really make a difference when combined with a comfortable car. It's just nice to check these differences on driving in those close sections where the car still matters, but it becomes much more marginal. Drivers like Max and Lewis might not be the fastest ever, but their abilities to deal with everything around when having a good car are absolutely insane while Alonso and Leclerc are absolute pace machines. They find time EVERYWHERE. I would love to see a closer fight between these four
Max haters before qualifying: Monaco will neutralize the field from top speed advantage, so it'll be down to the drivers.
Max haters after qualifying: ah yes, this is cause the car, you see.
This is really good. Thanks for posting.
Fantastic visual. Thank you.
What Alonso and Max did is the perfect lap on monaco.
Say what you will about max’s first WC, he demonstrates that it wasn’t sheer luck time and time again. Just like Lewis and Alonso.
Definitely have to agree, I wasn't happy with how he won #1. But the man can flat out drive, and his car is extraordinary 👌 I can only hope we get more of these tight battles in the coming races! Love it!
as a fan of good racing in general more than certain drivers, I've maintained that verstappen deserved to win that championship, he just didn't deserve to win it in that way. verstappen and Alonso are the clear two best drivers on the grid right now. can't wait for tomorrow
@@infernodotdash2203I think Charles is also great, just his car isn't doing him justice. His mistakes are because his car is inferior, so he has to oush more but he pushes too much and a crash/spin.

Max nailing this at the most difficult part of the track show how skillful he is
You mean the final straight, where he pulled away? Much skill, not. I like Max, but with equal cars he couldn't have pulled off this miracle.
@@iSkyline1 i think max is the most talented and ruthless driver on the grid,he got his car because of his and the teams hardwork, you didn't seem to be concerned about the race when merc was dominant for 8 years
@@amalxavier5102 I wasn't watching F1 during Merc's 8 years of dominance. Lewis is an excellent driver, but his performance these days is another indicator how much the car matters. Max is very talented, but I doubt he would have gotten pole had he been in the AM instead.
@@iSkyline1AMR in Monaco is more than a 2nd fastest car, great braking and acceleration performance, they're pretty much slightly faster than RBR this weekend
@@ryvzenton25 Not according to this video. The RB pulled away only during the last seconds on the straight. Also braking and speed out of the corner is ridiculous in the RB.

Wow!! The live F1 cameras couldn't catch the actual qualifying lap as a whole but this guy got everything.. Imagine that...
being a new fan, its awesome to see how close these drivers are, something you don't always get to see in a race.
Sometimes less then 1 sec sepirates p1 from p9 on some courses, i'm exaggerating obviously, nice video!!!
We need Alonso joining RedBull next year so we can have Max vs Fernando like Prost vs Senna era!
Christian doesn´t want another Vettel vs. Webber, can blame him.
The Aston has better traction out of corners and the RB is better under breaking. So closely matched, drivers and cars. Loved it.
This kind of analysis is brilliant and so great to see just how close the drivers are and how drastically having a good or bad sector can have! There was a good graphic from you guys a while ago showing how far from the finish line every other driver was when compared to Max or Leclerc’s pole lap. We love this shit! 💖
Your videos are memorising technical artistry!
I think this shocked everyone. Did u see how clean Alonso's lap was till like the last sector.
That final sector was insane and Max even hitting the wall out on the straight. I was already screaming cause I thought we were going to see Alonso on pole with a huge chance of a win but it seems like we’re only going to see one team winning this season. Red bull are in a league of their own we may as well just call Max a five time world champion at this point.
What u mean league of their own. This was very close its not like RB is half a sec faster is it?
@@rogerivy2919 they have won every race this season. Wouldn’t you call that a pretty dominant team? Monaco was the place where everyone thought the other teams might have a chance but as it turns out red bull were fastest here as well.
Thank you for displaying that historic moment in such art. Truly entertaining.
This double-ghost comparison with the represenation of track, apexing and driving line is fantastic - really good quality and great for seeing the pros/cons of their driving styles. I'd be fascinated to know how you're putting them together, presumably using F1TV onboards for reference and animating to keyframes and extra work to sweeten it up? However it's being done, it looks brilliant. Sort of thing FOM should be producing as part of post-quali analysis given they have the cars' GPS logs. Brilliant work!
No.
It is unreal.
Absolutely invented.
Verstappen thru La Rascasse is absolute class
AS non-fan of Verstapepen, an anti-redbull, and enemy of Christain Horner, I must say that today they proved once again that they are the best team and the best driver. Verstappen's accurate aggressiveness in the last two corners made all the difference. But, the team having everything ready for a third lap and a last push was just as good as that pole position lap. Alonso was his phenomenal best as always, Ocon and Leclerc were not too shabby either and still it was not enough. I may dislike them, but kudos to Horner, Versy and RedBull.
I don't think you can really be all those 3 things you named and still be this rational if you know what I mean😂
