The F-ZERO game returns as a 99-player battle royale! Race on classic F-ZERO courses with machines from the original Super NES game and tear through courses in high-speed races. But be careful, your Power Meter will decrease if you crash into pilots or guard rails. If it hits zero, you're out!

If this paves the way for a GX remaster or an all new game, then I’m on board for this
As long as the remaster balances the difficulty, as I heard it was one of the bad things about GX.

@@jeremyriley1238 GX had a difficult singleplayer campaign but the races themselves were smooth as butter and amazing in multiplayer. And the graphics aged beautifully. That's why you see so many people saying they don't mind a straight port even though of course they would welcome a remaster.

I'm loving F-Zero 99 so far, its a ton of fun. This sort of multiplayer boost is exactly what the games needed. I wonder if its a sign of more things to come.

It looks extremely fun to me, but F-Zero was also the second game I had for the SNES in 1992 after SMW. It sounds like the original music is there too, is that right? Amazing, in that case.

It's mostly just devastating tbh. Reminds me of the kiddy land scene from SpongeBob. This is a very obvious "Bone throw" to attempt to sate desires for a new game, but it's very clearly not what fans are hoping for, especially with the way it was presented. "Here you go, you waited almost 20 years, for a mobile game!"
As a fan I've long given up hope of a new F-Zero game, so I see this more as a fun treat than as a letdown! I had this exact idea years ago so it's cool to see implemented now.

i was genuinely waiting for the pixel art to just transition into full 3d hd gameplay of a new f zero game.

Yea this game is actually very fun. I get some of the frustrations but at the same time, this is actually a fun game to play.
Got ninth place on one race. I clipped a wall while boosting, it cost me the first place win.
This game is so much fun. It’s so addicting. The races are chaotic and fun. The skyway is a perfect feature because of how smooth it is. Honestly this whole game is SMOOTH.

Its so hard to stay in first because of Random Spawning NPCs that knock you into walls and Suicidal NPCs that heavily damage you and slow you down, leaving you open to attacks from everyone

@@chimericalical If I'm being real... this kind of feels like one thing that F-Zero has always, ALWAYS, been designed to aim for. F-Zero 99 is like an archetypical death race, and F-Zero has very much had death race elements and vibes from day 1!
While there absolutely should be a new conventional ultra-speed racing game released as an F-Zero cornerstone, I think the game's always been calling out for this kind of mach-speed endurance rally mode. And it seems to be working really well already!

Nintendo said Mario 35 was a timed release from day 1, and Pac Man 99 just shut down because the interest wasn't there. F ZERO 99 is way more fun than Pac Man 99 so I don't see them shutting it down.

This is such a good idea, and really smart to create new interest in F-Zero. Also if you haven’t played it yet - F-Zero 99 is soooooo much fun
People are acting like this is some kind of "monkey's paw" thing, and yeah, it would be nice to get a new F-Zero in the vein of F-Zero GX, this actually looks really cool, and the aggressive, chaotic nature of F-Zero racing lends itself well to a 99 Battle Royale type of game. It certainly looks cool regardless of any of that. Really, at this point, I'll take anything I can get.
this is such an awesome idea, and it's a ton of chaotic fun online!! Personally I think this is a great way to sorta "feel" the interest in F-Zero out a bit, and honestly positioning it as a more aggressive, battle-royal alternative to say something like Mario Kart might just give it that edge to cater to a larger audience!!

I never thought a "Battle Royale" game would make me this excited. Is the closest thing to the race scene from "Ready Player One", but is F-zero.
Haha, nice comparison, didn't think of that but yeah, kinda true, especially near the end of the races when many explode.
@@Ray_2112 I guess the programmers loved that scene in the movie so much they brought It into F-zero. However, hopefully one day, we have an official racing game based on the tracks and characters of "Ready Player One", but with copyrights "BS" on the way it seems unlikely.
Played it for a few hours today and I'm hooked. The first F-Zero is one of my favorite games ever and I really like this battle royale spin on it.
I love F Zero 99. Im about 15 races in and I’m living this. The best 99 so far. I would love to see an F Zero X 99 or a new F Zero game. Super fun so far!!!

@@magic2546It is well worth checking out. Especially if you can find a copy of F-Zero GX for the GameCube. The series is known for extremely fast racing and great music.
@@illford6921F-Zero GX sold over one million copies. I think a remaster of that game would be the best option to release something refined without spending too much on development. Minimize that risk, and let the fans show their passion.

I honestly can't get enough of this game and I'm so disappointed that people are shaming it without trying it. Not everything has to be a remake, or a remaster, or a re-release. If a new F-Zero comes out and is as fun as F099, then I'll buy it and buy instantly

I genuinely teared up when I saw this. Even to this day I still play F-Zero and even if it's not a sequal, something as chaotic as this is definitely going to be fun for me. I'm so happy they're doing this and I still cling onto the hope that they make a full on new F-Zero game someday.

The only 99 games to shut down were Mario 35, which was mentioned before it even came out that it would only be up for a limited time, and Pac-Man 99, which is owned by Bandai-Namco and thus subject to their decisions. Neither are an indicator that Nintendo likes to kill these games off. Tetris 99, the other one, not only is still up but recently got a Fire Emblem Engage theme update not too long ago, so its clear they plan to keep it going as long as possible.
Tetris 99 survived, so this should too.
This is really cool and I'm glad Nintendo is actually doing something with F Zero again after 20 years but an actual modern sequel with modern graphics, mechanics, and new tracks would be absolutely amazing

GX wouldn't fit well on Switch because of the digital triggers, so I doubted that we'll see that or a new game. Hopefully Switch 2 will have analogue ones. Then it will definitely launch with F-Zero GX in 4K raytraced. (truckload of copium here, I know)

@@cryptocaesar8972 That still doesn't mean it's a Switch game. The supposed Switch 2 SoC, Tegra T239, has been rumoured to exist since 2021, and Nintendo was already working on DLSS and RT support for their own tools. But I agree that it's coming soon at some point, along with other Gamecube games. The new leadership at Nintendo seems to be fairly invested in bringing numerous older titles back on Switch, with 3 (or 4) GC games announced only this year: TTYD, Pikmin 1+2, Metroid Prime.
@@leonro The only reason it wouldn’t get dropped as filler until the next console is if they are giving it the metroid prime 1 remaster treatment. You should be happy regardless.
To everyone sad that this isnt a full F-zero game: YOU NEED TO PLAY THIS.
This game is a very clear indicator that they are willing to try the F-zero series over, as long as this does well. the more this gets played, the better of a chance that we get a GX remake, or even a full new game.

My wallet says "I like single player and local co op games" and will continue to do so
I guess it's nice Nintendo at least acknowledged F-Zero exists though. If I was being optimistic I'd say it might even be that F-Zero 99 exists to gauge how much interest there is in the franchise for a potential future title.
So, i guess i have to play this game now to support that idea...

Update: I just played F-Zero 99 for over eight hours today and this has to be one of the best things Nintendo has done for a while. It's complete chaos on those tracks!

Not exactly what i was anticipating out of a new F-Zero game but I'll take this W anyways, it's like the Death Race in X but with SNES graphics and online with 99 people! Hopefully we can get a true sequel in the future if this does well

Fans have been asking for a new F Zero game for the past 20 years and this is what we get.
Yea, I think they should have launched with a completely new game, and then this could have been a "mode" rather than the whole game. It looks like fun, but I'm not sure how long it will be able to run after everyone's played it. I see the player base dropping off after the first couple weeks.

I wrote so many letters to Nintendo as a kid asking for a proper F-Zero sequel. It’s about time.
After playing GX and “retiring” so often. This makes sense to me. It isn’t just a race but for survival!
I initially started playing this as a side game when i just wanted to play something for a short time but it's addictive and now find myself putting aside more time for a proper session. It's not mentioned in the trailer but there are also Mini Prix and Grand Prix where a number of cars get eliminated in each race with only 20 left in the final race. Plus you can practice the courses against ghost cars of each of the four cars.
Glad that F-Zero’s getting some love now.

Double Dragon 99

There's nothing wrong with complaining about there not being a true sequel to GX, but I feel like if you're going to direct that at _this game specifically_ then that's basically the equivalent of demanding that other people get paid less as opposed to demanding that you get paid more
This is a fun and novel concept.

People complaining haven't tried it. Is it as exciting as a brand new game? No. Is it still fun? ABSOLUTELY.
It's the most chaotic racing game on the Switch. And I love it.
This game 🔥. Been having so much fun and this is probably the best way to modernize the classic mechanics. The rival system, super spark and even the launch pad are all great additions

They’re definitely testing the waters with this game. Hope it does well so we finally get a new full fledged F-Zero title
That's backwards. The audience who wants a new title isn't the same audience as the one who plays this. What makes more sense is that Nintendo uses this game as a marketing campaign and build some name recognition for when they release the next game, which is either a GX port or a brand new title.
@@Trazynn why would they begin work on the next game before seeing if there’s a demand for it? The F-Zero series was put on hiatus due to low sales and perceived lack of demand. This game is definitely to see if there’s an audience for the franchise to justify a new title
