My dad was stationed in Thailand when I was a baby and the one thing I will NEVER forget is the rice! I remember all these Thai girls taking care of me and eating sticky rice out of a basket. I’ve been searching for that exact taste and smell ever since! But I could eat Pad Kaprow Gai 3 times a day if I could. I love Thai food!!!! Thanks for taking us there ❤
Such fond memories....
Anything with Basil is good. :P Hope you will find that experience again soon.
Good Morning I hope your having a great day ❤😊
That first one looks like what my Thai friend told me was used for medicine. "Good for coughs, don't eat it"
I like mangosteen too, kind of a buttery feel and a mix of pineapple and stonefruit.
Yes I looked it up and it said it's for coughs. I wasn't 100% so didn't mention. Thanks for the confirmation!
OMG you are in my mother country ❤
Mangosteen yum yum
I ran out of food at home so I'm eating through you!
The first fruit I think is a medicinal plant for the throat. Great Video. Do Street Food Next!!!! I am a Gardener but more, a FOODIE.
I may get another channel up for more diversity which will include street foods in the near future. Will announce the channel once it's live. Right now street foods just seems a little out of place on this channel? Thanks for suggesting!
@@wendiland Well if you do, I am sure you will hit a home-run with it. You have the right energy and persona for it. Take care and enjoy your time in Asia.
Haha great to watch, very entertaining Wendy, they do eat some very dubious vegetables there , they do often favour very sour fruits with of course salt and chilli 😁
That last one Cha Ohm is used in omelettes, my wife called the other one Kee Lek (probably slang) and is used in a curry.
Would need to try that in the future!
Great video. Your facial expressions when you taste something is priceless. That first one reminds me of the first time I tried bitter melon, just bought one at the market not even knowing what it was ( I don't read or speak Chinese and the shop was busy so I didn't ask) and when I got it home just washed it and took a big bite, big surprise. I very seldom buy watermelon as I can grow far better than I can buy, I really like the Cream of Saskatchewan, Hime Kansan and Koho, sp? as smaller melons that trellis well and don't take lots of space but that one really looked good. Thank you for sharing and please have a wonderful week.
The special surprise bitter melons bring...haha I would love to try more food next time I'm there. And make room to grow watermelons! Small melons are good as one serving size, and grow more on one plant.
I'm afraid to try new stuff. Thanks for volunteering. I feel safer.. : )
Fun to try new things, but if you are not sure at very least do not swallow, or talk to someone before trying. :)
The root looks like Boesenbergia rotunda, Chinese Ginger, similar to Galangan. Vietnamese: ngải bún, nga truật
Soups, Stews, Curries, Pastes.
I looked up something like that, but it doesn't totally look like it. Still a mystery.....
The first one looks like the Amla fruit (Indian gooseberry). If you drink water after taking a bite, the flavour turns sweet!
I questioned if it was a gooseberry as well, but it's more of a fruit for coughs. Water didn't taste sweet after I tried the fruit.
This was a neat vlog. Thank you for sharing. May I ask, is it a simple step to visit neighboring countries when you travel to Vietnam?😊
I had no issues getting a plane ticket from VN to TL. But should check with the boarder countries you are interested in visiting. Certain ones may require a visa. If you go by bus then it's probably easier. Like VN to Cambodia, go by bus.
The first one looks like Indian Amala, or goose berry, it’s made into a very sugary preserve and supposed to be very good for you. Also use in hair products.
It's actually some kind of medicinal fruit for coughs.
Wendi, were you raised in the Midwest?
Midwest US? No, why's that?
@@wendiland Your voice and mannerisms made me think that.
Maybe the astringent one needs to sit on the counter to ripen.
I'd do that if I had more time there, but I think locals eat them this way.
