The UK has essentially become exactly the thing that British people used to laugh at Italian politics for.
The Tories have brought us this in just 6 years.
If I hadn't lived through it I would not have believed it possible.
Except the weather is s***, the pubs and restaurants are s*** and overpriced and culture is an Oasis covers band.
@@tonyb9735 They will hope we all forget, most will do as well.
Not just in Europe. Viewed from Australia, the shambles in Britain is both:
- amusing, in that Australian politics shockingly seems more sane than Britain, and
- depressing, because the sense that Britain was always a model of sensible, reasoned, rational debate and politics has now been blown out of the water
Viewed from Canada and couldn’t agree more
Exactly.
To limit this to only Europe vastly underestimates Truss.
She is a global embarrassment.

She doesn't actually seem that bad. UK is unlikely to change drastically in the next two decades or so. It's been a developed country from a long time. Why would people care if she's not that good? It won't affect their daily lives. It won't magically make UK a poor underdeveloped country. Things are gonna be the same. It's just news channels making things up
@@achyuththouta6957 wow. that comment didn't age well.
What is a bit ridiculous is that the Brits are still convinced that we, the EU, are continuously worried about their absence. Actually we don't really notice, to be honest. Fantasy Island is, well, an island, and has been for long time now. No big deal. We can wave to each other from time to time.
Incredible they actually found someone even more disastrous for the UK than Boris was. Sad to see the direction the country is taking in recent years.
An they don't have Brussels to blame. Nor Brussels to help then out. An the uk 🇬🇧 insulted and ignored the USA 🇺🇸 enough that we can't really help. The world warned them all this would happen. But nationalism and my way or the highway mindset led them here. Not to mention compounded by covid.

He kicked anyone with a brain out of the Tory party when he became PM so there would be no threats to him. And he was right. It allowed him to remain in charge for a lot longer than he ever otherwise could have. Truss and the other walking lobotomies are all that’s left.
It's not incredible. Unelected Conservative Party supporters elected a party leader. And the way that the system is set up, the governing party leader automatically becomes Prime Minister.
Truss knows this. That is why she appealed to unelected Conservative kleptomaniacs and rewarded them for their support by rewarding them with her budget 🙄.
What an idiotic system. The electorate sometimes get what they deserve. If you don't like the results, change the system.
I thought she would be a disaster, but she exeeded all my expectations!

"Liz Truss seen as a laughing stock in Europe" is worthy of a headline? I thought that was a given.
Thank you UK for taking over that headline from Canada.
Let's face it we have been a great European spectator sport ever since 2016. Few in Europe follows their own politics anymore.
Typical English hyperbole.
Of the handfull of European countries I have a chance to follow, thanks to limited but still useful language skills, none follows British politics more nowadays than five or ten years ago.

Back in 2020 I was in a small Spanish mountain village. A man with one tooth and the fog of alcohol all around him came to ask me where I was from. When I told him I was from Britain he burst out laughing and walked away muttering 'Brexit' and 'Boris' in-between his fits of uncontrollable laughter. And that was before Johnson's crimes, lies, cover ups and eventual demise and the terrible B movie that is the Truss government.
Liar.
If he'd of left the German empire may be he'd still have his teeth🙄
I was in a remote village in the Karakoram, baltistan. As I was trekking along a remote mountain pass, i met a goatherd with five teeth. He asked where I was from, I said the uk. The sad thing is the Tory party is the financer's party yet they panicked the financers.
Not just Europe. Also in the UK.
I have noticed it all started going wrong after they left the EU...
What happened to make it go wrong is tied in with brexit - but it's more about the opportunity brexit gave to incompetent ideologues to hijack the Conservative party. The Conservative party was never very competent, but they were once miles better than they are now. They had a lot of fairly okay, much more professional people to put in ministry positions. Most of these people were fairly intelligent and most were remainers. They were removed from the party and as MPs representing the Conservative party when Boris johnson burrowed his way into power. There's almost daily gaffes from the kind of people who are heading government departments now - things that the people before would know not to have said. They might have privately held a lot of views people would be appalled by, but they could maintain professionalism and manage well, in a way talentless ideologues in government current can't. A lot of this was enabled by the Uk's increasingly outdated political system.

To imply that the UK is not supporting European security sufficiently in the Russia-Ukraine situation is a bit rich, given how steadfast the UK has been behind Ukraine compared to some larger EU countries.
@PGH Engineer And we shouldn't be donating money to Ukraine like they've won the lottery.
@PGH Engineer The EU has taken and supported all the refugees (over 5 million) and is dealing with all the border issues. Also the EU is ready to accept Ukraine’s bid to join the EU. Ukraine is not asking to form a union with the UK.
The argument is that the UK has been very supportive of European security, but that this is now less of a certainty. And that is a valid point. Perhaps the point should have been made more clearly, but I will correct that.
Germany and France see the UK as a reliable and important ally. So they are disappointed that the UK is no longer as stable as it is. There is a fear that this instability will lead to the UK moving away from investing in European security.
The Prime Minister is a lame duck, the UK desperately needs trade deals, the economy is fragile, and there is a strong nationalist movement in the UK (as proven by the Brexit referendum), it's not unthinkable that the current political system will collapse and the UK will be run by populists who will look to Russia for cheap energy.
