This situation suggests that a complaint is enough to get a contestant banned. Because the argument is that he can't perform while he's under investigation, not that they concluded he definitely did something wrong. But that seems ripe fur abuse.
Also, filming someone without permission where it's not allowed is also harassment and transgressive behaviour. Arguably worse than what he did (if this is what happened)
I was just thinking the exact same thing. Both the leadership and the crew member fall under the EBU. They won't do this on purpose, but now you do create a precedent where you could practically always kick out a contestant and come out of it with clean hands.
The main sponsor MoroccoOil is actually an Israeli company. Given that many of the countries that have been openly supportive of Israel have had incidents (Ireland missed the rehearsal due to something that caused them to file a report), it is possible that Joost was disqualified for his open dislike of Israel, and that the incident with the camerawoman is simply being used as the excuse.

Like that time Tom Hank yelled at a crowed of people that knocked into his wife. But again, I don't know the full story, and it sounds like we may never know.

Well, the only official version (with any actual information) I've heard so far is the broadcaster's one and if that's correct there should be video footage. It would be very helpful if the EBU released that footage so all the rumours can finally come to an end...
As far as we know, this is the news in The Netherlands; Joost left the stage after the half finals. He was emotional (understandable) and did not want the cameras filming him at that moment. He already had said that he did not liked been filmed 24/7 the moment he got there. Yess, he had signed a contract, apparently all contestants are following around and filmed the whole time they were there. Both sides were trying to work out what would ‘work’ for both sides! So he knew this, they only point was, he did not want the camera straight in his face after his performance, cause it was emotional to him (his song is a tribute to his parents who he lost at a young age) The film crew could of filmed him from a distance, they could of filmed his background dancers, the big blue bird that was with him, they could of done so many things and still get there clip. So Joost made a ‘threatening’ jester by swinging his arm as if he was going to hit the camera lady. She felt threatened and the laws of in Sweden are if you feel threatened, it is a crime, so the police are involved. That’s the whole story that we got here in Holland. Joost himself has not made any comment jet. I The Dutch broadcasting company (AVRO) will make an complaint to wards they EBU, cause they don’t agree either! This has nothing to do with Israel! Look, I’m not for Isreal, but fair is fair! In this case, they have nothing to do with this situation. Hope you all are more up to date on this🤞😊🤞 And for all you fans out there………. We don't know what's true or not and nothing is official since he's just under investigation. Ebu decided to disqualify him which is sad and if it isn't true then it's even more upsetting he got disqualified but at the same time the ebu maybe don't want someone investigated by the police to compete :( ❤️
An official Dutch delegation made this statement. It's pretty serious when the Netherlands sends these people and in my lifetime I have not heard of them releasing false statements, plus since there is clear footage of the incident it would be an enormous blunder for them to make a false statement and would most likely result in them losing their high level job. Which I doubt they would want to risk just to save Joost his reputation. So regarding facts this is as close as you are gonna get, probably more trustworthy than a statement from the local Police or EBU for that matter.
i agree, but i think it's not that much,at a month ago some problems happened in my school and a girl recorded and went to the police to make the complaint, and maybe the girl went to the police to complain about his behaviour showing the video (but i can be wrong,im just telling this because i've been included in a situation like this)
At least in Germany you can be fined for showing someone the middle finger, sticking out the tounge and doing other insulting gestures, as it is seen as an insult. Pretty much no one would get the police involved for that but technically you could and the other person could be persecuted for it. I'm pretty sure it's similar in Sweden. So yeah, very much possible that the camera woman was just being anal about it.
Aa a Dutchie I can 100% say that Avrotros is super careful with their statements. If they didn’t seriously think the disqualification was disproportionate they wouldn’t have put it like this
the ebu wouldn't of just disqualify them for no reason neither would the police get involved, i dont think we should decide who was in the wrong until after everything is released about this (tbh im leaning towards joost because i feel like since the alagations sent to the police the ebu might of felt like they needed to do something as it came out really short notice)
Police don't need more than the fact that someone files a report to get involved. Whether there's any merit to the report is decided by a prosecutor later.
As an Israeli, people soon came to a conclusion that the fact he wasn't in rehearsals was an act of protest against Eden being in the Final. Lets remember that she is only 21 years old that is only representing her country in a song contest. Even after the news about the incident with the reporter people still blamed Israel. However, I do not think that the EBU disqualifying Joost was a good idea, he was a fan favorite to many people. Everything about the competition this year has been a mess. Please EBU let him participate in the Final.
If it was because of that question it dasn't make sens Her respond was realy good and she made a point with it If there was something more then this, that made dem come to this decision (and it was conected to Israel) I understand but only this isn't enough to kick him out
It was already reported that the incident of him being disqualified has nothing to do with any other contestants or their delegations so this clearly has nothing to do with Israel. As in Israeli even though he has shown such disrespect to Eden it shows more about his character then it has anything to do with the Israeli delegation. And still I am sad to see that he is not participating in The Grand event. He was a fan favorite and they should really come straight out and tell us the reason for his disqualification.
I don't blame Eden. I blame her producer harrasing people i blame morrocan oil obviously wanting the Netherlands out for freedom of speech. Look i have jewish ancestry! i will never support any antisemitism and abuse to jewish people around the world but many people of Israel are acting out of order!!
This year is peak of drama. First participation of Israel, then All Iceland and Finland protest, then possibility of Iceland withdrawal then Natalia insulting Irelands performance on her social media, then this...what next? Someone gets murdered or something? This is just crazy, jeez.
If anything it says even more that Israel should not have been allowed to compete. This is all scandal and disgrace. For someone to be disqualified so easily while 34,000 are literally murdered with intent by another qualified country, is so hurtful.
My view is that they were convinced he was going to go off-script and they had to silence him. I hope BT will get their way and shut this contest down!
Called it! To be honest it was going to come down to a Switzerland v. Croatia showdown, production made sure of this. Also, being disqualified is so on brand for Joost Klein, it's the best outcome for him. He's on the short list of disqualified contestants. The writing was on the wall that he was not going to win, so this is on brand for his "edgy" personality and literally the best outcome. He was literally over the whole competition.
I would prefer to know the whole of the affair before judging. It's normal and right that the Dutch broadcasters stand by their artist, but it's likely that they have received the majority of their information from their own side. At the same time a company should protect its employee. We don't know what kind of information or instructions the camerapeople were given, and how the behaviour was received from their side.
i hate the eurovision only for this reason i thought i was going to enjoy it this morning i was so happy about everything and then i hear about the netherlands drama this sucks i still dont get it.
This is an indication that they can do whatever they want. If they want Netherlands out of the competition they will be doing out. If they want Israel on the top 5 they will be on the top 5. it’s as simple as that.
Why can't we just put Joost and the crew member in a room, talk it out, have Joost make an apology to her and continue as adults. Why turn this into a police matter?
Apparently the AVROTROS (Dutch broadcaster) suggested this or even a public apology, but she refused to sit down with them and talk about what happened... Instead, the police got involved and Joost was prematurely disqualified.
The woman did'nt want to talk and wanted the police investigation. When the investigation was completed, the police found it was not a criminal case so they did'nt arrest Joost. Common procedure after that is that it becomes a civil case and the police send it to the public court This will take time, weeks probably. But the EBU decided to send Joost away. The EBU not only banned Joost, but a whole nation. They trampled on the Dutch culture, sence of pride and honour. So I hope the EBU had a VERY valid reason to disqualify him!
@@myrtlesocks2811 if that's the case, that opens up the possibility of a veeeeery ugly precedent where anyone could antagonize participants into disqualification if they don't like them..... EBU has opened a can of worms here.

He was approched by the camera person, even though there was an agreement to not film the performers after they came offstage. There must be images of the incident! They asked not to be filmed several times, then made a 'threatening' move to the camera... We know from the broadcaster that he didn't touch the woman... Logical conclusion; Most likely the camera got damaged, otherwise this wouldn't be such an issue, neither with the EBU or police... Even Broken camera images can be retreived by the police, unless it had a literal acid bath, or the images were manually deleted... Or when the cameraperson used a phone, and claims privqcy/ no access... Still the question remains: why did the EBU not protect the preformers? Multiple countries (Ireland, Lithuania, UK, Netherlands for sure!) have complained about improprieties and harassment backstage! They failed to protect the artists and delegations! And not to even mention the division between Azerbaijan, Israel and Russia... Why is the last one excluded, if it's about the broadcasters, and the first two aren't??? These countries all have committed warcrimes and genocide in recent years! Anyways; the booing around Israel and Lithuania wasn't perse for their acts! They played right after the time that the disqualified Netherlands 🇳🇱 should have preformed! The audience boo-ed that. For Israel there might've been booing regarding the injustice as well, but it seemed mostly for Joost klein, as Europappa was heard throughout the audience before, during and after Israel's preformance.
Actually artist sign contract to be filmed as long as they’re are on the premise , so technically they production crew didn’t do anything unlawful, is it distasteful? Yea but they knew what they were getting into, signing that contract

i bet [redacted] cried about him being "disprespectful" during that one interview and since they own EBU's asses because the biggest sponsor of eurovision isn't actually moroccan, this is what happened. but that's just my opinion.

Yup, if this is all there is to it, it’s ridiculous. We’ll know the whole context eventually
Exactly and I mean he was not respected as well,he didn't want to be filmed
The camerawoman is a human being as well and has her rights, she may not be famous that doesnt make her less of a human...
He should learn some manners
The decision is 100% justified
@thecitypartoftheinternet But that woman didn't respect his boundaries?
He may be more "famous" but that doesn't give her the right to stick a camera in his face after he repeatedly said that he doesn't want that.
your statement totally sounds like double standards
I’m Dutch and I found this absolutely crushing. That man deserves his boundaries, he put his heart in soul into this. Disappointed the other contastants didn’t do something to support him.
Greece, Ireland, and Switzerland protested
Finland also, Kaaija canceld his participation in the live voting
Estonia apparently also debated to withdraw, but at the end of their performance they said dankjewel (thank you). I dont think there was much other contestants could do though
Never even a good song he sang!!!
What about a zero tolerance policy to towards disrespecting the artist?
He didnt even touch her?!?! She invaded his space and he made a threatening movement towards her???? Wtf ebu!?
They were payed by Isr@el to do so
now lets imagine if this was a female act and a male camera person you know dam well the camera person would be out and the act left alone.

It looks like EBU did everything in their power to help Switzerland win
Pretty easy to do when half the points are awarded by failed career Eurovision wannabes who mean as much as 600mil+ potential voters...
Nemo wasn't even in the top 4 of voters' choice yet he somehow won lol. And it would be less bad if they didn't do it last year to Finland, stacking the jury votes against them so much that even the 50% more votes they got compared to Eurovision royalty couldn't get the actual winner to win. ESC holds a "No Politica" stance, yet once a contestant goes 0.01% political they go 100000000% political and destroy him...
And they say not political but they kicked out russia(not saying russia should be in eurovision but still)
@@Musta0011 they actually kicked Russia out because they weren’t playing nice with the EBU, I think they didn’t pay what they should have or something? It wasn’t political, according to the EBU.
@@JasminMiettunenthat is not true. In official statements by the EBU when it all happened, they were kicked out because of "the ongoing crisis in ukraine"
@@xshme that’s weird, I'm 100% sure I saw an article of EBU or ESC saying it was because of Russias non-compliance with the EBU when Israel was compared to Russia
@@timv17 it just takes one delegation wanting to take out a competitor and you've put yourself in a very difficult position with this precedent. To be clear, everybody has the right for a safe work environment, but then the EBU should've banned him on their own accord, not off load their responsibility towards the Swedish police
It’s not just compliant it’s an ongoing police investigation.
I was soooo excited for this year, but it's just been a SHITSHOW 😢
So it’s precisely like my intuition. An incredible, unimaginable amount of stress leading to a snap reaction at something possibly invasive happening to him. Unbelievable. Sure, there might still be more, but damn that’s depressing.
We need justice for Joost. She went against his wishes which were agreed upon beforehand and now he has to suffer the consequences. Absolutely disgusting.
Bro the next thing is that Estonia will be kicked out bc they were drunk at the national finals and they drink at the finals
That's f*cking mad!! I feel so sorry for Joost
Do I think Eurovision can be saved? Yes. Is it going to take a lot of work. Very much so
The camerawoman was clearly at fault here, Joost literally just pushed the camera, so he wouldn’t be in field of view
He didn’t even touch the camera’s as the reports say.
Bro this is crazy that song was fire
So he swatted the camera off his face and got disqualified??? Huh???

Sounds like it's not so I don't really see a reason for him to be removed if he yelled at the person. From the little info I have, they make it sound like a reporter/camera lady was "harassing" Joost and he got upset about it. Kind of normal behavior in the celebrity world. Like that time Tom Hank yelled at a crowed of people that knocked into his wife.
But again, I don't know the full story, and it sounds like we may never know.

2 things need to happen: 1. We need to see her footage and if it is not bad enough to warrent this pushinment then 2: She needs to be fired and never be allowed back at a job at this high of a level ever again.
It might not be bad to your standards, but according to the standards of the Swedish organisation it was bad enough.
It's possible the woman is refusing to share the video since it's on her phone.
So sad for Joost, his dreams were cut short because of bad behavior by the camera person. 🥺🥺
He did not want to be filmed. I don’t see what’s wrong

Well, the camera woman is doing her job. If you're gonna be on a show like Eurovision you'll need to be able to deal with being filmed.
You don’t know what doing your job is.
She should have respected his privacy.
Dude thats what you get for not listening to his request multiple times…. She assaulted Joost Klein and bothered him
This doesn’t sound like what really happened. Why would the police investigate because of a “threatening movement”? There’s either more to the story or the disqualification is just unfair.
EBU is very shady
Because the woman went to the police. The police should take these matters seriously whether or not the report was made in good conscience.
Joost was like 80% the right and they 100% over reacted

As far as we know, this is the news in The Netherlands;
Joost left the stage after the half finals.
So he knew this, they only point was, he did not want the camera straight in his face after his performance, cause it was emotional to him (his song is a tribute to his parents who he lost at a young age)
The film crew could of filmed him from a distance, they could of filmed his background dancers, the big blue bird that was with him, they could of done so many things and still get there clip.
The Dutch broadcasting company (AVRO) will make an complaint to wards they EBU, cause they don’t agree either!
This has nothing to do with Israel!
Look, I’m not for Isreal, but fair is fair!
In this case, they have nothing to do with this situation.
Hope you all are more up to date on this🤞😊🤞
And for all you fans out there……….
THANK YOU for your support💕💕💕
I would not care if we wouldn't send anyone next year
But with police being involved … I don’t think they tell the full story
Of course
i agree, but i think it's not that much,at a month ago some problems happened in my school and a girl recorded and went to the police to make the complaint, and maybe the girl went to the police to complain about his behaviour showing the video (but i can be wrong,im just telling this because i've been included in a situation like this)
The police said it was a minor incident and might maybe lead to a fine. So it's all blown out of proportion.
This is Sweden. People aren't generally afraid of getting the police involved.
“Now we’re in trouble”
*Big grin*
That is literally the definition of the show 😂
Aa a Dutchie I can 100% say that Avrotros is super careful with their statements. If they didn’t seriously think the disqualification was disproportionate they wouldn’t have put it like this
europapa would be in the place of Switzerland rn and would win first if they didn’t do this stupid thing. I loved that song
Joost🇳🇱🇳🇱
Least political EBU moment
the ebu wouldn't of just disqualify them for no reason neither would the police get involved, i dont think we should decide who was in the wrong until after everything is released about this (tbh im leaning towards joost because i feel like since the alagations sent to the police the ebu might of felt like they needed to do something as it came out really short notice)
Police don't need more than the fact that someone files a report to get involved. Whether there's any merit to the report is decided by a prosecutor later.
Since Joost was disqualified it would only be fair if there were some sort of penalty for the unprofessional camerawoman.
If it was because of that question it dasn't make sens
Her respond was realy good and she made a point with it
If there was something more then this, that made dem come to this decision (and it was conected to Israel) I understand but only this isn't enough to kick him out
It was already reported that the incident of him being disqualified has nothing to do with any other contestants or their delegations so this clearly has nothing to do with Israel.
Still holding off my judgements until we get *both* sides of the story.
If anything it says even more that Israel should not have been allowed to compete. This is all scandal and disgrace. For someone to be disqualified so easily while 34,000 are literally murdered with intent by another qualified country, is so hurtful.
OK if this is true then the ebu definitely overreacted
My view is that they were convinced he was going to go off-script and they had to silence him. I hope BT will get their way and shut this contest down!
Joost is disqualified but Israel made top 10 💀
Seems like Joost was looking to be disqualified from the off
EBU just didnt want him to win
You shouldn't celebrate the win of switzerland because the judges decided to win or not the people which Not the choice of the people
Jury AND people gave high votes for Switzerland.
The Netherlands' Joost Klein --- the Top3 (or Top5) finisher we never had.
The information is coming from the police. It was also agreed upon beforehand that he wasn’t to be filmed coming off stage.
Well, the EBU isn't going to say anything so this is all we have. I think that the Dutch broadcaster is a reliable source.
also the reason why he did not want to be filmed after the performance, was because of the emotional moment at the end of his song.
Wait I dont get it. They ruined Eurovsion 2024 JUST BECAUSE ONE GUY SHOWED THE MIDDLE FINGER?!?!? This is outrageous
He👏🏻did👏🏻not👏🏻touch👏🏻her!
Honestly joost did not deserve to be disqualified ebu are so stupid
i hate the eurovision only for this reason
i thought i was going to enjoy it this morning i was so happy about everything and then i hear about the netherlands drama this sucks i still dont get it.
This is an indication that they can do whatever they want. If they want Netherlands out of the competition they will be doing out. If they want Israel on the top 5 they will be on the top 5. it’s as simple as that.
He only made a threatening move after asking them repeatedly to stop
Why can't we just put Joost and the crew member in a room, talk it out, have Joost make an apology to her and continue as adults. Why turn this into a police matter?
He didn’t want to apologize. He even sang “I love you all! (Apart from this one photographer)”
Congratulations to Joost who got blessed with the best marketing campaign ever.

Don't cry because he's disqualified
Smile because he sang
This is everything he saidd 2 times respected that he dont want to be filmed but she kept filming
Nothing got damaged
It literally was just a threatening gesture
