Sunday Morning: Sanctity of Human Life Sunday
Introduction: On January 22, 1973 abortion was legalized in the US. Since that decision over 65,000,000 pre-born babies have died. In 2024 data shows 44,771 abortions in Florida (122 babies/day). How do we even wrap our minds around the magnitude of this issue? One in four women in America experience an abortion. Post-abortive women are four times more likely to commit suicide. The statistics are no different outside or inside the church.
Begin with Grace - Studies from all over the world discover that common emotions after abortion are denial, guilt, shame, regret, depression, anger, grief and unforgiveness. Where do we go with the deep damage of sin? Look to the Cross! We are not under condemnation in Christ (Rom 8:1). Many fear God will punish them because of a past abortion (Isa 53:6; Matt 27:46; 1Pet 2:24). Trust in the atoning death and life-giving resurrection of Jesus (Matt 20:28; Jn 10:10; 1Jn 1:7).
Grace makes a “good ending” to any story!

1) Every human being is made in God’s “image” (Gen 1:26-27; 2:7).
2) There are NO accidental human beings - God is sovereign in conception - God opens the womb (Gen 30:22; Ruth 4:13); God closes the womb (Gen 20:17-18).
3) There are NO throw away human beings - God is sovereign in fetal development; He creates our personal existence (Psa 139:13-16).
4) Every human life has intrinsic dignity, value, meaning and purpose.
• Infants - pre and post birth (Lk 1:31,35,41,44,76; 2:7,11)
• The elderly (Ex 20:12; Lev 19:32)
• The handicapped (Ex 4:11; Jn 9:1-3)
Conclusion: As a Community of Jesus, what should we do? Christians are obligated to protect and care for the helpless and the hopeless (Psa 82:2-4; Prov 31:8-9).
1) Pray Passionately!!
2) Get involved personally! Be a doer of the Word!
3) Influence the nation, spiritually!
4) Love like Jesus!
