Just upgraded to RP (first full frame). Adapted my EF 50mm to it. It's such a treat to use. I hate to be that guy but it's just such an improvement over aps-c. Even as the lowest end ff, the colors and dynamic range just pop right out of camera. Let alone as a raw file.
As a Wedding Photographer - I love and appreciate all the SOOC images (and the frikin cool music) at the end... so many times (and everyone does it) - when you compare the SOOC to your favourite photographers final images, it can be disheartening... so our mucho appreciation for keeping it real, Taylor... you (and your Wife) are the best!
@@Liquidtage I got the 50mm and I would say in terms of image quality, it's about the same or better. Autofocus speed is about this same. BUT prepared for the cheapest packaging you have ever seen! lolol
I’ve just purchased my first nifty 50 lens as I am doing my first wedding shoot in 2 days. This video has been perfect for me to gain a bit of insight into the lens.
My R6 with RF 50 1.8 will be here tomorrow I’m so pumped after watching this. Going back through my photos I had forgotten how many of my favorite images were taken on my 80D and 6D Mark II with the EF “nifty fifty.”
Always nice to go back to the fundamentals to refresh the perishable skill, although I had forgotten my first 'fun' time to shoot a wedding with a 50 f/1.8 over four decades ago. Of course back then with film, a Metz flash too to keep up with the motor drive.
Awesome video Taylor! Whoever did the hair and makeup for this wedding did a phenomenal job. Super modern looks and so well balanced. It's funny what a photographer notices versus someone who has no idea. I never noticed the distracting background at all. I think all the images are so soft and romantic. Also - The pizza song is literally epic LOL
Yeah!! I'm shocked that I'm using my updated EF 50mm f/1.8 on my R5 with Canon's ring adapter. I can really punch in with the 45 MP files. Its not a perfect lens, but I'm able to work around its short comings. I'm very happy with it. :)
I own the RF 15-35 & RF 70-200, but whenever I leave the house for casual use, I take my 50mm 1.8 with me, since it is so easy to use and lightweight. The bokeh can get very busy though, just like you said. For video it is difficult to use, since it focus breathes really heavily.
I tried it for video once, and then ditched it. Focus was weird. But all in all, I love this thing. Light, compact, takes sweet shots, all for $200. Stays on my camera now.
Your pictures really encouraged me to take more pictures with the 50mm 1.8. The focal length has been quite tough to get used to as I’ve always been relying on telephoto-ish looks. Great photos.
A longer lens is absolutely necessary for certain moments. There's fundamental, essential moments in most weddings that simply can't be captured from too far away. When the bride says "I do" at the altar wiping a tear from her eye, any photographer worth his or her salt had better be in TIGHT to get that fleeting moment and it ain't gonna happen with a 50. You just cannot miss a defining moment like that, and a few key others. Thanks, Taylor. I know you get that, and even mentioned a 70-200.
Thank you so much. One thing which puts me off photographing Weddings is all the gear. I was edging towards just using my 35mm but am thinking I'll pop the 50mm in now too. Lovely natural images, thanks for your advice.
Bro, for $200, this thing is a ripper. My RF35mm used to stay on my EOS R, and now I find that this is usually my go to. I like the 50mm look, and I love how tiny it is. Sometimes I miss the extra FOV, but I honestly don’t sweat it as much as thought I would.
This video is excellent! I've been leaning pretty heavily on my Canon 24-105 f4 L (EF) for group events lately. But I own the RF 50 f1.8 STM. Maybe now I'll be brave enough to use in a professional way. Also, what is your post-production like? Some of the tones I'm seeing in your photography are really quite lovely.
I'm not a wedding photographer however, do own the EF version of this great lens. Yes, I can do portraiture whole day with this lens mounted on any of the legendary 5D series DSLRs.
and if not using as first preference, what a killer back up lens to have in the bag..love my R6/50mm1.8 combo, waiting on that Rf 24 1.8 to hopefully appear in 2022..
i just bought the EF version of this lens for a wedding. Thanks for making me feel better about that decision. Also, some good ideas for posing the couple.
I used my nikon 50mm F1.8 G with the FTZ on my Z7ii mainly for a wedding and it did very well the only time I used my 70-200 G2 was the vowels because I couldn't get close, I eft the 24-70 in the bag all day.
bokeh reminds me of the Nikon 50mm 1.8d, has the same circular characteristics when shooting through trees, gives it a unique look for artsy photos but probably not ideal when the mainfocus for wedding should be the subject
Great photographer perspective about wedding. Yes, it's a great low budget lens. I personally use Sigma 50mm f1.4 HSM and also a great option for budget lens. Good luck wit youre work!
Different strokes and all that as I love the look this lens gives. It has a nice Planar vintage look which I'm guessing comes from the simple, under corrected lens design.
Thanks for share this video. Very beautiful photos and very interesting your opinion about this lens. I am a Nikon user but I use a crop sensor with the sigma art 30mm 1.4. It would be a 45mm 1.4 full frame but it works fine and that is the lens that I use 70% time in weddings. Regards!!
Beautiful work. I love your approach very natural look. I have been doing wedding work on a budget. I use an R6 and R. I only have the cheaper 50 mm and 35 mm and kit as my native lens. I have one good EF zoom I use adaptive. Really don’t have the budget for the L glass. Thanks for this review. It’s encouraging seeing great results from budget RF glass. I have to trust my skills as a photographer over the quality of my set up. It’s a journey to add as much value to my clients while I grow my arsenal. I shot a reception dance entirety with that 50 while dancing in the crowd. Broke has its advantages 😎
Thanks Taylor this is very helpful. Im moving over from Nikon to the R6 - I knew the RF 35mm F1.8 was a good choice - seems like this is a bargain as well. This will make my initial spend a bit lighter. Cant wait for my R6 to arrive - just got to sell my D750 now 👍
I'm looking to get the R3 + a 50mm lens but I read review people talk about the front element of the RF 50 1.2 will moving and make noise which will affect for video work. So I'm consider getting this 50 1.8, What is your experience with the RF 1.2 for video work?
Hi Taylor Jackson! My question is that In this video useing the preset: TJ Spring 2021 T1 . If I buying the Lightroom Presets Complete Collection part of the package? Or only TJ Spring 2021 ? Thanks.
Question for anyone and everyone: Do you guys adjust your aperture for group shots or just compromise the softness on faces that are out of plane of focus?

Finally someone showing us that a budget lens can get the job done! Not all of us jumping off the porch with L lenses .
Shot my first wedding with the sony f 1.8 50mm and it was a challenge but fun. Thanks for the video.
I just got the youngnuo 85mm (on my R5) and it’s sooo tiny, eye autofocus works at about 95% (which on r5/6) is still better than 99% of other cameras
I can’t decide between this or a 35mm. I have the 50mm now. But a lot of people been saying huge positives on the 85mm youngnuo.

Why does the image quality of this Canon Lense simillar to Nikon image?
Very Informative
literally just bought this lens two days ago, would prefer the L version buuuuut that's a lot of money.
I’ve had mine for 6 months. Such a sweet little lens, man
I love this page I just love these BTS wedding day thank you for these BTS My brother Taylor
I wonder if stopping down some would improve the background bokeh rendering any.
What was the lens lindsay was shooting on that day? love your Vids :)
I think she’s usually on the RF 35mm f1.8 or the 85 Samyang
Yes if you have an r6
Btw.: Do you also have a bit of resistance with the zoom ring of the RF 70-200 at the long end (~150-200)?
Would the ef version be comparable to the rf?
Haven’t used it sadly. Maybe someone else can answer
Question for anyone and everyone: Do you guys adjust your aperture for group shots or just compromise the softness on faces that are out of plane of focus?
Just put everyone on the same plane of focus so it’s not a problem. If the group gets too big go down to f4 or f8 maybe depending on focal length
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto yeah I try to whenever I can but sometimes things just happen too fast! Thank you for replying Taylor I learn a lot from watching your stuff.

If the bokeh distracts from the story I’d say it’s a bad lens attribute. Fortunately this one only becomes distracting in a few environments
Am sure works fine so long as the sun is out as Canons lack of weather sealing on their cheaper RF lenses is disappointing.
