I do not receive any special treatment that wouldn’t otherwise be publicly accessible, in fact, the hotels and airlines have no idea about my visit and that's the way I like it!

    Subang Intetnational Airpirt was Kuala Lumpur's main airport (KUL) from 1965 to 1998, before the new Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang was opened.

    Firefly includes luggage in the airfare. For slightly more than the cost of a budget airline fare, that's a good deal if you have check-in luggage.

    I was a trainee pilot for about a year flying Cessna 152 from a school across that terminal you're in. Such memories! You don't realise how crowded the area around XSP is until you get airborne. When I piloted the aircraft for the first time, I panicked as I tried to land because I could not see the airport amongst the urban build up! Hahaha.... I'm actually old enough to remember Subang from pre-KLIA days. Its almost like Kai Tak terminal.

    Fun fact, i studied in a building which could oversee the airport, as the singapore youth flying club also operates there and uses that runway as well. Thanks for sharing on that flight, i would not have known about that, since i never saw any firefly planes landing there and usually private planes only. That airport used to serve berjaya air if i am not wrong, took a flight from there to somewhere else which I forgot.

    Szb serves mainly business customers. You are right to say that it takes 1 hour to reach klia which at peak hours can take up to 1.5 hours. I would rather pay more for convenience and the ability to go 'last minute' intro the airport and be on time for a flight. I would choose changi for longer flights. I like the convenience...

    Wow, never thought of firefly as one that serves snacks onboard. Plus, the airports it serve seem really convenient. I could see this being a much more convenient option for frequent travellers between the two cities... the type who works in one and flies home to other for the weekend. Other than the airports possibly being "too cheap" for them, i could see mh and sq serving this route as well!

    btw the Firefly jets is the company's second attempt - the last time was back in 2011. this time around i think they are going at it a bit more sedately, and will focus mostly domestically.

    I’ve done a lot of firefly in and out trips on the same day - one thing that always gets me is how hot as hell the 5 pm flight is ; it always seems that the plane is out of aircond gas by that time and it can really be very uncomfortable . Also it seems firefly planes fly at a lower altitude and can be quite bouncy - frighteningly so at times during evening tropical thunderstorms - .

    • @tfft

    Hi Kevin. I watch your videos and appreciate the extensive time and work you put into filming, editing and scripting. Thanks!
    One note please... Your camera does quite a bit of strobing in two scenarios of any of your recent videos (I only began watching 6 months ago). In fluorescent lights the strobing is the worst! And sometimes in quick camera sweeps your shots are jittery/strobing (strobing: the lobby of the airport, jittery: off the plane in MY a shot panning right to left on the tarmac.) I'm not sure what either of these causes are. When I look at other UA-cam travel vloggers -- I watch Dan and Dan and Oscar -- they shoot and edit exclusively on iPhones and I never see this issue. I wish I could give you some ideas where to look to fix this but I can't. Thanks for the hard work. :)

    • @tfft
      @tfft  11 місяців тому +1

      The strobing lights are a result of frame rate vs. light hertz/frequencies. In the past, it was easier to navigate as different countries use different hertz and so you could adjust your frame rate accordingly. Now a days with LEDs (99% of light strobing in my videos comes from LEDs) it is not as easy to predict when a different frame rate would be necessary. When I shoot hotel rooms I frequently need to shoot the same shot 5+ times to eliminate strobing since LED strobing is relative to angle and movement of the camera. In an airport, I don’t have the luxury of standing around and reshooting things multiple times.
      All of my videos are shot on latest model iPhones as well. In all of my trip reports I film entirely freehand as to not attract attention with devices in hand, which causes stutters at times especially when I’m panning and walking at the same time. If I was using a gimbal or steady cam, it wouldn’t be there.

  • @yagi3925

    It’s insane to have 40 flights a day between two cities (capitals, on top of that) that are just 320 km apart. Have they never heard of high speed trains? This is an ideal case for one.

    • @tfft
      @tfft  9 днів тому +1

      I highly doubt Singapore has any motivation to sacrifice more of their finite land to a high speed rail facility.

    • @yagi3925
      @yagi3925 9 днів тому

      @@tfft Then I highly doubt they're clever and rational people, as 1°) they do have land for no less than 4 airports (!) + large roads everywhere, 2°) roads and cars are far less efficient than railways and trains in terms of space per traveller, so having little land available is one *more* reason to prioritize rail infrastructure, 3°) their land space is not finite when it comes to claiming ever more polders from the sea, 4°) Singapore already has a rail link with Malaysia, so running HS trains on it would not claim any more space, 5°) With just 2 km², Monaco has inifintely less space available than Singapore, yet it has an (underground) train station: I assume that the Singaporean engineers know how to build a tunnel, 6°) Tokyo and many more Japanese metropolises have tons of high speeds lines with an even higher population density than Singapore. For short, no one can buy this bogus "no space" argument.

    Hi Kevin, nice to see you feature Singapore's not generally well known 2nd airport, Seletar.
    Thanks for this review by the way including FireFly, just a minor mention and hope you don't mind but Seletar is actually pronounced the following way, Sir-Lee-Tar.
    Love your channel and unbias reviews, it truly makes my week watching and in some cases re-watching your videos, especially the ones featuring Phuket.
    Hope you are intending to make some video reviews in Penang.

    Nice video...but Seletar is pronounced as something like "Sir..Lee-tar", and not "Salita". Hope that helps.

      I presume you've been in a moving car at some point in your life, right? The chances of dying in a car crash are 5 times higher than in a plane crash (0.23 vs 1.34 per million). So why on earth are you riding in cars?!? 😱
