    Hi there. I recently bought an ASIAIR Pro and I have a Celestron Advanced VX mount. My problem is connecting the USB ASIAIR Pro to the tiny phone jack on the AVX hand controller. So my question is, do you need a special cable, IE RS232 to phone jack, which Celestron sells, then going from RS232 to USB which I have that cable? I also have a Star Sense hand controller which has a usb out on the bottom, but the ASIAIR Pro only recognizes it for a second then it freezes up. I have a email into their support but have not heard back yet. Also, what is the advantage of having the Celestron WiFi when the ASIAIR Pro already has a GoTo function? It is another $120 US, so before I go out and spend that was curious if there is really an advantage to having that as well. So far your video is the only one I can find on the subject of connecting these two products so thank you. I might make one just on the cable connection if I can get it to work! Any suggestions would be appreciated and thanks for the great video!!

      Hi, thank you for your comment. The Hand Controller you own seems to be an old type. The current Hand Controller does not have a tiny phone jack, but is a mini USB terminal. Moreover, RS232C conversion is not required. A realistic solution might be to buy a new type of Hand Controller.
       I also don't think we need a WiFi connection using Celestron WiFi. We are able to achieve our goal with a serial connection.
       However, if we want to use SkySafari at the same time, we need the Celestron WiFi module.
       Good luck.

    Very interested in your video as I have been trying to do likewise (unsuccessfully) with my telescope kit. I am using a Celestron 9.25EdgeHd but otherwise have the same ZWO equipment. I am using a SkySafari wifi unit which I can separately operate the mount. The connectivity via ASIAIR is similar to you and can operate the main and guide cameras. Also I have got the mount (CGEM) connected via rs232 to the ASIAIR.
    This is where I then falter as I cannot get Safari Pro on my IPAD to work together with the ASIAIR both on my iPad.
    I have tried to follow your video but still a bit confused.
    Are you using just one iPhone?
    Does Safari app use (SkyPortal or other connected Wi-Fi unit) WiFi link or via ASIAIR WiFi link.
    Your help would be appreciated.

    Great video, but a little confused. I don’t know why do you have to set station mode in AAP and connected to celestron wifi. Seems that everything should work fine without it.

    • @masaschumit1502
      @masaschumit1502  3 роки тому +1

      Connecting to Celestron WiFi in station mode is only for SkySafari to work. Therefore, as you pointed out, no station mode connection required. for normal operation.

      @@masaschumit1502 From my understanding, Skysafari just connected to 10.0.0.1(IP of AAP) at port 4030. AAP then works as proxy to the AVX that previously connected by serial port. So no need for station mode from AAP to Celestron wifi too. And I presume that in the part that you connected AAP to itself(10.0.0.1) on port 4030, it also work with the same reason. That’s means if serial connection cannot be made or disconnected during anytime proxy is working. You should not be able to communicate to the mount anymore.
      Actually, I tried to connect my AAP to my nexstar 6SE mount. Your video gave me a good concept of connection. But unfortunately, serial connection from AAP to my mount cannot be established.
      What in my mind is that, Is there any method AAP can connect directly to the mount via Ethernet(wifi) without serial cable connected. From my investigation, Celestron wifi itself use port 2000 to accept remote connection not 4030 as in AAP.
      And station mode is required for this method in order for the AAP to connect the mount using IP address of the celestron wifi( 1.2.3.4 is what I found on my Celestron Skyportal wifi module).
      Skysari can directly connect to the mount using this IP without problem( choose telescope as Celestron Wifi). But with AAP, there is no Celestron Wifi in the telescope list. I still not successfully connect the AAP directly to the mount through Wifi module this way.

    You can just use "last alignment"

  • @pwhitw
    @pwhitw 3 роки тому +1

    When initialising the AVX mount if you are not actually doing an accurate one star alignment why not just choose 'Quick Alignment' which avoids having to select a star and slewing. Isn't this 'initialisation' just to start sidereal tracking on the mount ? Once tracking is started all the Gotos can be performed using ASIAIR's plate-solving capability

    I just want to make sure I understand you AVX mount and ASIAIR startup. Unlike the Astroblender youTube in which he will power up the AVX hand mount with hand controller to the initial scrolling prompt screen, then power up the ASIAir, connect the app and then go through the fake alignment on the handset your method is to do the fake alignment so now the Advanced VX appears on the screen then turn on ASIAir. I've been using Astroblender's method but the GO TO function of my ASIAIR Plus V2.1.1 10-74 is not reliable. I use an C8 with my AVX mount. I have used my ASI585MC and Nikon D5100 in both native and with a 6.3 focal reducer. I never know after coming out of Polar Alignment mode on ASIAir (I've focused prior to polar alignment) whether the GO To feature will work. Sometimes it doesn't go in the right direction of a star or it heads in the right direction but is off but close then as it retries it will make a big correction change and head away from the target. I give up in frustration and restart the mount and ASIAir and then it will start working. I'll be able to go to 3 or 4 stars and they'll center, Jupiter, and a faint nebula. I even set up a imaging session for an hour on M77 unguided and the AVX kept the target in center the whole time. The next night ASIAir couldn't find anything. It would be nice if ZWO would publish a startup procedure for all hand control mounts. I will try your method.

      The AVX equatorial mount is now a classic equatorial mount. This is because to connect to ASiair, false alignment and other initialization is required. If you turn on ASiair after the initialization, GoTo and plate solving may go well. I don't have my AVX equatorial mount with me at the moment, so I can't confirm this, but I think it will work with ASiair version 2.1 as well.
