  • In 1996 I moved to Seattle to pursue my music career in the band Severna Park. This is my story.
    Everything from working for Sub Pop, playing shows with Modest Mouse, Death Cab For Cutie & Harvey Danger, to being in the epicenter of the cultural phenomenon known as "Grunge", hear the story firsthand from someone who was there during this historical era of alternative music.

    So very cool. I saw you guys play a couple times. Was always blown away.. Grew up in Seattle, played in several bands. Still playing with my main one 34 years later.

    I have been searching off and on for years, online, for anything to do with Severna Park. I saw Severna Park open for Harvey Danger in Auburn, WA in 1998. It was the beginning of my junior year in high school and my best friend and I were huge fans! Thank you so much for providing music for the soundtrack of my youth. Your songs have stuck with me and still pop into my head from time to time. THANK YOU!!!!

      Hi Sarah! Wow, it’s so great to hear from old friends, it made my day! Yes that Harvey Danger show was crazy, that was right when their song was blowing up. It was an amazing time to be in Seattle. So glad I was part of your teen memories, I’ll never forget those times if I live to be 100.

      It’s a little heavier than Severna Park, but still the same power pop influence. Hope your doing great & thanks again for the memories.

    Damn Jack. I had know idea. You have lived quite a life up to now. Sadly the past may have been opportunities lost but moving foreword you are armed with so much more knowledge and experience to accomplish your life long dreams. I love how unafraid you are to speak from the heart and put yourself out there to strangers (UA-cam community) it truly shows how fearless, honest and true you are as a human being. You are incredibly inspiring my brotha. Most importantly I Now know where the Jobber theme song came from! Love from The Bay. - Kirk

    Tbh by 1996 grunge was dead. Nirvana gone AiC Soundgarden disbanded Pearl Jam on hiatus .

      You are 💯 %. If you even said that word in Seattle in the late 90’s you were shunned. It was like saying Voldemort. But there was still tons of music being made and plenty of good bands.

      @vlcthefish 2 роки тому +2

      That was my first thought as well.....moving to Seattle in '96 is sort of like a hair metal guy showing up to the West LA strip in 1990. With that said there was definitely life to Alternative/Grunge music in 1996(i mean take a band like Bush who was huge then playing 15,000 arenas into 1997). It's just that Nu-Metal/Pop punk was right aright around the corner.

      It was dead long before that, I got to Seattle in ‘96 it was was dead by ‘94. You weren’t allowed to say the word “grunge”, it was forbidden. It was a joke by then. My video is about the Seattle scene that existed post-grunge and the great music that continued to flow.
