    This video makes it all clear for me that with 5 string bass you just need active pickups. They sound so hip and modern. It's like if you like to have light touch and to be able to express a whole lot of little details you just need those. Super nice sounding bass. And your playing and demonstrating is just out of this world! You got it.

    nothing wrong with being a Fender GUY, there are so many non-fender guys that play expensive high thousand dollar basses, and they all have Fender in their gear rack. I removed the stock noiseless from my jazz Ultra because they sound dull and muddy, and I installed AGUILAR , night and day difference! It’s sound so amazing, from clean, to metal to praise to Funk , for the money Fender are the kings, I can only imagine you playing mine! Your skill would bring it to life! 😂

    The reason everyone is saying that Active sounds better is because Active has more Volume than Passive so its not really fair. Volume plays a huge role in tone and how you perceive it

    Fender string spacing was a deal breaker for me. I bought G&L M2500, Yamaha BB was also an option. I’ve never had a passive bass, but I think I might like it. I don’t like compressor on a bass at all. I wanna feel the sound and I feel compression kills the sounds characteristics.

    the active is louder than the passive.
    "definition" eh
    what happens when (and it will and does happen)
    when the battery dies while youre performing
    and your levels get out of wack when you switch back to passive
    ive always preferred passive basses for this reason
    i can make definition with my hands. i dont need a circuit for that.

  • @leifkorsnes4701
    @leifkorsnes4701 3 роки тому +2

    A great instrument test👍 But..Isn’t the difference between passiv and active basically a question about volume? Like difference in output from the instrument? If you compensate with volume from the amp would you get the same color of sound?
    To me the active sounds a little more juicy,and the passive a little «dull» A shame really as Im waiting for an mexican V standard from 2000 to arrive at my house next week😉....but it will sound great anyway😍
    Your playing is just awesome btw!

    • @KimSE4
      @KimSE4 2 роки тому

      Depends on the pickups really. I can't hear the difference on my bass with an EMG preamp, it just activates the EQ but then the pickups are very powerful, very hifi. I'd love to try a bass that has actual active pickups, like one of those EMG setups, rather than most systems which are passive pickups with an active eq

  • @stephaniemunguia7942
    @stephaniemunguia7942 3 роки тому +31

    I definitely prefer an active setup. As a praise and worship musician who plays DI, it's nice to have extra volume and equalizer control over my playing, without needing a pedal board or any other extras.

      @ag052976 2 роки тому

      Exactly….

    • @KimSE4
      @KimSE4 2 роки тому

      I think this is true for a lot of players - it's a useful live tool but not in the studio. The only time I'd really use the active eq would be to balance the sound e.g. dial in a bit of bass when soloing the bridge pickup. Maybe quick bump treble and bass and scoop the middle for slap, but yeah - a live thing deffo.

    • @beornthebear.8220
      @beornthebear.8220 Рік тому

      I love active 5-string basses. Actives have more of an equalizer; passives just cut treble. Much of the music I play goes below E, and the 5th string also allows you to play at or above the 5th fret without needing to move your hand on the neck to hit a low E through G sharp. Also sometimes when I want to hit extra hard, I'll pop the E open and the 5th fret on the B together.

That's pretty much what I felt when I switched from an ibanez 5 string to a 4 strings fender Jazz bass with pre-amp, loved both features but as you said I'm more like a meat potatoes guy lol and I prefer passive mode of the instrument. Please I would like to ask you if you could make another review but using a 4 strings fender jazz bass 😁 I'm kinda curious to hear different opinions about this bass. Thank you for making this video I loved hearing your thoughts on that! Congrats on your UA-cam content btw they're awesome!! Take care! God bless 🙏🏾

    I like 24-fret more slender necks basses too, and have a few, but I'm not going to say what they are as this is a Fender test. I had another bass I love the sound and versatility of, but the neck was thick and wide, and started hurting my fingers. It had 24 frets and an active Bartolini II 3-way setup. I loved it, but my fingers can't take it any more.

    Brother Jermaine, with your music skills, you could put a pre-amp in a ukulele and the shout would be on! 😊. I’m an old Hammond B-3 organist who grew-up down South in a Pentecostal church...need I say more? We didn’t have a bass most of the time, so my organ foot pedals filled-in. But when we did, and when the active basses came on the scene, we couldn’t stop. After 30+ years, I’m learning bass. For me, it depends upon the genre of music and the other instruments-I would like to hear you playing an actual song using active and passive. But. I would rather have active available and not need it than to need it and not have on the preferred bass for a project. Sorry for the length...I usually don’t comment. Thank you Brother for all you do in God’s Kingdom and for your contributions to music. Be well.

    Great sounding bass Jermaine. I have an all original 1998 John Suhr era active Fender Jazz bass that sounds incredible. This is one bass that would definitely make you change your mind about Fender basses as it really does sound that good. The Suhr pickups and preamp that are in it don't color the bass allowing you to hear the raw, organic tone of it. I have other basses, and I play them all, but this one is something special.

I have been playing a Bass Mod for the last 5 years and just wanted to have a little different sound right now. The width of the neck will not bother me at all (I’m an aggressive player) even playing in the upper notes area, although I will be quite limited with the shorter scale of 21 frets. In any case, because you really demonstrated the bass’ capability with your skill level, it convinced me to go ahead and grab one- (Same color too)! Lol! Thanks again man.

    Great playing and really a good sounding instrument! Thinking of purchasing myself, but I'm more of a four-string guy. By the way: A great video, hat lots of joy watching it.

    Thank you so much for your honesty sir! I have one question.. I am 51yrs young and decided to take up bass. Having said that, I would like to know if this would make a great “first bass”? I’ve researched it for many weeks and I don’t want to get something that I’ll grow out of in a matter of months. My music tastes range from R&B, jazz and rock. My favorite group of all time is Earth, Wind and Fire. Thank you for all you do!

      This one for sure is a keeper. If you decided to get it, it would grow with you at any level
