Russ, you might find yourself a few years ahead, needing to do this again. A reference video would be useful for us and also useful for you. It doesn't need to be a video, just a well organized reminder sheet. Notepad or wordpad-ish. Better yet, a .PDF
Nice job! I'll be waiting for full video about your configuration. Can you make a detailed video about your lathe modifications? I want to buy a small chinese lathe and then I'll make a cnc lathe from it.
Ohhhhh yess!!! Isn’t native cam a conversational interface? Yeah I’m still learning how to install Linux CNC! I’ve got a raspberry pie I want to run it on but I’m having trouble getting it on there lol
Thanks for watching :) I do plan on doing more in the future. I had a big career change about 3 years ago and it basically nullified my ability to get into the shop. About the same time, I moved my shop from the basement into the garage and it is so cramped and uncomfortable to work in there I rarely bother trying. I'm hoping to break ground on a new space in the next month or two, and hopefully get back to making some videos later this year.
@@russtuff I'm running the same Leeson, I searched for the VFD you say your using but it doesn't appear to be for the correct type of motor (CNC spindle?) I'm using. Can you advise? Ideally a VFD that would in place of mine rather than a whole rewire fiasco. ; )
@@seanwolfe9321 I haven't looked into them in quite a while, but I'll see what I can find online. If you are mostly looking for faster stops, does your VFD have the capability of using a brake resistor? I've been planning on adding one to mine so I could really shut it down in a hurry but I've never pulled the trigger.
I have a Huanyang VFD, and I have a couple videos in my CNC Conversion playlist that go over getting it up and running (including controlling it via Serial port).
I'm not sure. The riser block is 2" tall but I don't remember the height of the tool post when the compound was installed. I do have a video about the riser block but no notes on how much it changed the tool height.
Russ, a full length video would be appreciated as NativeCAM can be a pain to install.
For sure, I'd like one too !
I think a full length video would be great on the new software.

Cool. its fun when things works out.
I've been using it extensively all week and it's been great!

Yes it is. I've needed it for a long time, now it's nice to have.
@@russtuff where you been buddy??? hope all is well!! we all miss your vids and teaching!
Heyo! Just keeping busy with life, and yes all has been great.
@@russtuff oh good...we'll wait patiently then. thanks for all the great vids!
Thanks for watching :)

yes full length video
Just installed 2.8 and cannot get nativecam working.
I installed it the way that fernV said to do it but I see no nativecam tab.
Plez halp!
Get it working? I started a video detailing the installation but had to put it off. It's still top on my list.
@@russtuff thank you!
Saludo cordial.
Gracias por compartir.
Que tipo de targeta utilizas?
Es posible conexión por USB?
I like that your VFD came to a really quick stop. I'm using a TECO l510 on my G0602 and it's NOTHING like that. What's you motor/power/VFD?
Thanks!

@@russtuff Yeah, that's my main complaint. It cannot have an external brake connected and the built in one is very weak.
and I guess part of my confusion is yours is a 2.2kw (3hp) the Leeson is 1 hp
What are you using as a spindle motor controller?
I have a Huanyang VFD, and I have a couple videos in my CNC Conversion playlist that go over getting it up and running (including controlling it via Serial port).
@@russtuff Thanks Russ!
How much did you drop down tool post from original position to be able to use those large tools?
I'm not sure. The riser block is 2" tall but I don't remember the height of the tool post when the compound was installed. I do have a video about the riser block but no notes on how much it changed the tool height.
Maybe I missed something but it looked like z returned to 4" and x to 2"
I had to add that bit of code manually. I've been using it all week and it still doesn't send my Z to 4" unless I tell it to.
Would also be curious about your 2.8 install. Gotcha's? Debian, Ubuntu, Mint, other? Thanks for this.
I didn't have any issues with it, but I didn't do an upgrade and instead wiped and reinstalled (after backing up my configs).
@@russtuff good to know. So you used the ISO with Debian?
Yes, so far it's been pretty good.
Do you reccomend converting lathe to cnc or buying cnc lathe? It looks like a lot if job to do conversion
If you want to convert the lathe for budget reasons or as a hobby, then I would say convert. Otherwise I would just buy one.
@@russtuffwhat is cost converted vs cnc with simillar specs?
