This "mystery box" storytelling, withholding the general plot for episodes on end, has gotta stop. The hubris of it! Expecting people to keep watching to find out, rather than being turned off because basic things don't make sense 😂 Glad the show seems better received than their recent efforts but it is not for me. Thanks Frankie & EJ!
So Disney thought that the same audience that was into Civil War, Infinity War, The Winter Soldier and End Game, were going to be into this? ... that's like making the next Die Hard movie a remake of Father of the Bride!
The psychiatric establishment until like the 70s apparently considered . . . certain, things . . . and not just the really off-the-walls, stuff . . . abnormal, and actually clinical. And, I think we're coming around to realizing that every bit of it is.
another excellent review gentlemen. it really blows me away that Disney can clearly see things aren't working, but they push through anyway. like if you scream at the void long enough you can come through the other side unscathed. which we all know is not true lol. have an awesome day red cow family.
I remember reading/hearing somewhere that Disney is primarily a girl brand and that they have taken primarily boy brands like Marvel and Star Wars and are forcing them to be girl brands.
I recently went back and watched the DareDevil and Punisher Netflix shows and am not sure if they hold up on a Repeat viewing . Despite great performances from the cast they look and feel pretty cheap ( a lot of two people in a room just talking and locations rarely have extras) and are very bloated ( most seasons could have easily be half the number of episodes).
I liked it a lot, but we have pretty significantly different opinions on the MCU in general, so I'm not surprised we have different takes here. I agree with some of your points though. I do agree the set looked like soundstage a lot of the time though, definitely. And the costuming thing... I mostly really enjoyed the costume work here, but specifically the Disney cross-pollination costumes were a little icky for me. I agree that there's too much character overlap in the main characters who definitely could have used some more distinct definition to set them apart. And finally I agree Aubrey Plaza's acting here is a weak point; I am a theatre kid myself so I can appreciate her being campy here and see how it can be fun if you brain off and go with it but it is more awkward than fun most of the time. Overall though, it's a very comic book-y show and that continues to be what I'm looking for out of the MCU as a comic fan, so I'm very satisfied with it.
To be fair I believe the comic infinity stone thing is due to Thanos trying to impress Death, which if I was a Barney looking motherfucker and could impress Aubrey Plaza sure more relatable then that malthusian stuff
I'm curious to know if Frankie has seen the animated version of The Pilgrim's Progress. My kids love it and it's free on UA-cam. Perfect for elliptical workouts or family movie night.
Oh I loved the show. Was it my post you saw calling it perfect that you saw? Haha... I thought the episode with the Tarot (Patti Lupone's) was one of the most amazing episodes of tv I've ever seen and I made a post about it being perfect, though I thought the show overall was mostly great. I was a bit unhappy with the ending and the big twist though. That was a bit of a letdown for me. I think maybe halfway through writing they decided they'd go for a season 2 instead of just a limited series so they didn't go into everything they SHOULD have---why did Agatha start killing witches? How did she start dating death? What's Jenn's purpose/why did Lilia see her as the "Empress"? What's going on with Tommy?--just to have enough to do next season. As a Millennial somewhat witchy feminist queer-ish person, I was the target audience exactly though, lol.
Yeah! It was yours, but also yeah, I didn’t really have a problem ultimately with it having that audience, I felt it served that audience well. Though, I thought Wandavision did a much better job of getting that audience and the Marvel audience that it’s existing within in the first place.
They were really satisfied with themselves with that Witch’s Road song. I enjoy hearing your opinions about shows that I likely wouldn’t watch because you guys don’t shamelessly call properties “woke” and you also don’t just accept any absurd ideological politics that are unskillfully forced into media. You guys can definitely be trusted to give a meaningful opinion on story writing and film, it’s great!
I would hope Disney keeps making these concepts but let the creators own the project instead of pumping unnecessary money in it to appeal to the maximum amount of people in their focus groups. A lot of beloved shows are "bad" for the majority of audiences but you have that niche audience that shows up to every episode, talks about it with their friends and they like it in their own little world. The reason why entertainment is boring is because studios don't want to take risks and think the only reason why you're not watching the show is because the big A-lister isn't in it. We just want cool stories and concepts. Every show doesn't need to be a global event like Stanger Things or End Game. Let little cringy shows like Agatha All Along have its theater kid audience who belts out the witches song in the hallway of a crowded school.
They revealed the plot towards the end because if they'd revealed it earlier, you'd have stopped watching, Frankie. All of these shows have a certain stench that repulses me but I was always unable to put my finger on what the perfect descriptor would be. Theater kid and suburban wine mom Karen are spot on.
You guys should do this for every upcoming MCU show; please do it for ironheart lol I had a feeling I wasn’t gonna like this one and I’m glad I didn’t watch it!! Some MCU stuff is just unwatchable for me lmao this and she-hulk; and possibly iron heart 😂
It's cheesy cringe musical theatre kid drivel tbh. I think they wrote the song and spent so much money on the songwriters that they had to make a show out of it to at least break even lol
I thought it was good, very good. But it's one of those shows I wouldn't watch normally simply cause for whatever reason I'd rather watch something else. But folks really like it and I can see why. A lot of your complaints seem to still from simply either not recalling or remembering what happened last season. These days when I catch a *new season* of whatever it is, I take the time to watch a few recaps.
You guys are crazy in watching this nonsense. This show has nothing and Wandavision at least had a VISION (no pun with the character, just the word...). You guys don't need to do a sacrifice like this just for the pod, come on, take care of your mental health! Oh! And The Acolyte, although was also bad, had much more weight, at least for discussion, can't even be compared to this whatever show here.
I guess I'll be 'that guy', but I thought that this was the best thing Marvel has produced in quite a while. I think it has a lot of bland and safe writing early on, but what you guys see as eyerolling "mystery boxing" I thought was clever and refreshing; I like scenarios where you think one thing is going on and the rug is suddenly pulled from underneath your feet. Its my opinion that your perspective on the ending unfairly dilutes it a bit. Yes, Agatha is a ghost, but her relationship with Billy is very interesting: there's an uneasy alliance where they both understand that they won't hesitate to cut each other's throats should the opportunity arise, yet they're working together because it's in their best interests. I think that'll lead to interesting opportunities "down the road". I didn't mind the set, but I will say the "cheapness" of it lead to a really fun meta moment that I enjoyed a lot, and that's when Death cuts the set wall as a portal to leave the Road. In the show, she's cutting the material plane, but as a viewer you know it's purely practical and she's cutting paper. I loved the cleverness of that.
I'd liked it. My two big complaints would be the continuing lesson with superhero properties that any dead character can come back, and the ending being a cliffhanger.
The show was actually really good. No one is expecting you guys to review Marvel (imo), and you clearly dont want to lol. I usually agree with you guys but respectfully this is a sloppy review that doesnt service the show or anyone interested in yalls take- its not non linear, its not even really a "mystery box" type plot.
The "who is the teen" was totally a mystery box. As for no one expecting us, we hear all the time people like us to talk about shows they don't intend on watching.
It felt like a CW show, take that as you will
I feel the only ones who liked this are the "nightmare before Christmas" girls the rather large ones with tattoos specifically
Nah, I'm both and I loved it, haha.
Spot on

Oh god this clip is so good, those cut ins had me howling. I can't believe you actually made it through the whole season.
"I have a friend" sure you do Frankie, sure you do 😆
I don't know how you guys watch this crap. Thank you for your service
Anything gothic is made for little girls now.
9:11 i'd muttered "this is AWFUL" about half a dozen times by this point in the video
Hahahahaha
This sounds like it sucks.
It had to. A show nobody asked for with character nobody cares about, and structured to blame you, yes you, when it fails. A perfect witch’s brew.
Saw the first episode. That show was gay as hell.
I love how you guys explain things to me that I simply don't care about. Like, that's how much I just enjoy listening to you guys banters lol.
i'm thinking "i'm gonna go insane if i hear 'witch's road' even one more time"
then EJ says Witches of Waverly Road
So Disney thought that the same audience that was into Civil War, Infinity War, The Winter Soldier and End Game, were going to be into this?
... that's like making the next Die Hard movie a remake of Father of the Bride!
😂 yep and like young kids are going to watch Deadpool... They are messing up with trying to attract new fans while alienating the current ones.
Show was good

3:11 “The power of one, the power of two, the power of many…..”
These actors deserved better writers
Agreed.

The gag with the kid's mouth is 100% lifted wholesale from the Trails of Cold Steel RPGs.

Speaking of Aubrey Plaza, did you guys see Megalopolis? I'd love to hear your takes on it
That witches road song sounds lame and uninspired. I like plenty of Disney movie songs but I wasn’t a fan of the songs in Frozen either.
I liked it a lot, but we have pretty significantly different opinions on the MCU in general, so I'm not surprised we have different takes here.

I have a brother and a friend who loves the show and would look forward to it each week. I tried watching it, and it wasn't for me
So... you just wanted to say you have a gay brother😂
(Not that there's anything wrong with that) 🎉
Just give us Young Avengers already. The show really sounds like a theatre kid show. I am tired of "scorned women" shows.
To be fair I believe the comic infinity stone thing is due to Thanos trying to impress Death, which if I was a Barney looking motherfucker and could impress Aubrey Plaza sure more relatable then that malthusian stuff

Marvel made stuff after Endgame? News to me.

So did Billy Maximoff turn the Bar Mitzvah kid gay or was that guy always gay? Or is everyone gay?
Man another stinker from Disney? 🤯 I'm shocked... Not really 🤣
Na, That melody blows. Imo, respectfully.
It's cheesy cringe musical theatre kid drivel tbh. I think they wrote the song and spent so much money on the songwriters that they had to make a show out of it to at least break even lol
@@raycerx87 the Agatha song is a meh knock off of the Munsters.
@hakaigonzalez7253 good hot take. Never thought of that. Solid.
billy jerksemoff
Should of stopped at end game. Minus Deadpool & Wolverine being entertaining

passions is better
That's a fucking blast from the past, lol. Haven't thought about that crazy fucking show in years.
That's the first and only soap opera I ever watched. I was like 12 and on summer break. The witch, the small person doll, etc was crazy.

You must be M Night Shamado's fan😂
What a twist!
I'd liked it. My two big complaints would be the continuing lesson with superhero properties that any dead character can come back, and the ending being a cliffhanger.
This just looks gross...
Like if tv could smell, it would smell like like cat pee and sandalwood.
This definitely sounds like it sucks
Man I did not like that witches road song, yuck lol
Fantastic show!
At least Aubrey Plaza looks fantastic, per usual.
Gotta stop making these shows bout them damn witches
