WHJY used to play this electric version with Boston-based band The Neighborhoods back in ‘93. Still a great song, and version, to this day! Can’t believe it’s 30 years old! 😳
how come he is so Underrated ?
How is he not frickin famous? I've loved him for twenty damn years. Brilliant all around. I don't get it. He's damn amazing. I wish I had the cash to back him. He's perfect.
+msnilla1 Man, You and I are on the same page...He's an Incredible Semi-Undiscovered talent. I've met him on several occasions when his 1st Cd came out and afterwards on subsequent albums . Really nice, genuine guy... he doesn't get the credit he deserves.
He is the only reason I still work in this business - and the reason I have grown to have utter disdain for it. Keep spreading the good word.
@@murdocktrashbag1609 Agree with all you said. I met him too, after a show at the Fastlane in Asbury Park on the Galore Tour. I hid out after the show after stealing a promotional poster off the wall. If anyone knows that club, there's really no backstage so I was fortunate enough to get in and have him sign it for me. My brother tuned me in so it was only right that I asked for him to say a couple of words to him and he could not have been more gracious. Really fantastic guy. I didn't have a lot of time mostly because I didn't want to keep him from getting to what he had planned or back on the road for the next gig. Absolutely one of my faves and so glad to see he is still composing. Recently got the CD & vinyl of 'Alright'. Now I just need to get a turntable...
@@arryrocks9167 Met him in the summer of '92 when he was touring with Etheridge. Didn't know who he was. I was at a record store and I asked the manager, a friend from the club circuit, who was it that they were playing on the store speakers. She said, "That guy by the register". I saw a long haired guy doing what I supposed was promotion stuff for his record and there were handful of fawning young girls around him. I walked over, pointed overhead and said "Is this you?" and he said "Yeah". "Good stuff", I said. We were both dressed exactly the same way, which I thought was weird. Dark shoes, black/dark jeans, a sport suit jacket with a denim jacket over it. Then we looked at each other funny for a second and I left.
6 months later he came back to my town for a club show on his own and by then I was a full blown fan. He was dressed exactly the same as before. Must have been some sort of uniform. 3/4 of the crowd there had never heard of him before the Etheridge show. They all said that this dude they hadn't heard of before just came on, with no backing band, and blew everyone away. I saw him a few times after that, haven't seen him live in over 15 years.
Been a fan for 30 years myself. Worked at a rock station when his debut album came out and I fell totally in love with it.
He is playing at a small venue outside Boston. Never heard of him. Unbelievable how amazing he is. I’m going!!!!

Gaines, so underrated, this song lyrics wise is up there in the top 100. Have to agree with post above, when grunge came on the scene it sure did swallow up a lot of great artist.
I don't get on here often but JG is simply one of the greatest artists I've ever heard. Been a fan for 30 years and have seen him countless times. Each show is unique because, to me, there's really no 'preset' set list. Everyone just screams out tunes/artists and how ever he's feeling that night just seems to inspire the tunes he decides to perform. I don't have the mental capacity to explain why he's not huge - it baffles me - maybe we're all aspire to quality in all forms. Support this man.
Lastly, has anyone had better locks in rock-n-roll than Jeffrey in this video? I know most of it is genetics but huge kudos to the stylist.
Best artist of the 90's and apparently, no one knows about him. What a shame.

The Hoods are good friends of mine. I saw Lee H the other night.
One of my all time favorite artists. He opened for Melissa Etheridge back in early 90's. Saw him a couple of months later in a club on Beale Street in Memphis. There was the HUGE stage area. He sang for about an hour. It was just incredible. Instead of wrapping up he told everyone his voice was feeling rough so how about we join him on stage so he could go straight acoustic. He played for like another hour. I was a fan before but left just amazed. Incredible talent & genuinely nice guy.
Wow, that's an amazing story! Every show of his always seems to be unique but this is one of the best I've read about. I'm jealous.

I have discovered his music coincidently when I was living in Philly, did continue to follow in istanbul and still do in London. He is an inspiration, great song writer and singer and real person
this song makes me feel way better for some reason, i hope not to make u guys sad but in school i had a hard tim and this song truely follows my heart and tells me that for one time one day that i will be like him hopefully in which i can do what i wanted to always do never stop jeffery my mind will always have this song on mind

I will always be amazed by what poses as talent in what is left of the music business while geniuses like Gaines will never command the respect they deserve....music industry, you are hereby put on notice until you learn that artistry oozes from one's soul and not the homogenized schlock you keep trying to serve from the same crappy blender!
