I had mentioned to you before your gig not to use AA batteries where you recently bought the F8n a week before you could get the F8n Pro. I use a smallrig plate adapter on my F8n Pro for FP batteries with a Hirose cable as well as a portable car battery starter which will last all day and cheaper, lighter & more power than a VMount. Plus it can start your car or charge USB devices as well as has a flashlight.
Thanks for reaching out. My hirose cable did not come in time to use it for my first gig with the F8n. The AA’s did fine. It was just weird once. Not to mention, part of testing is testing everything. Now I know how stellar the “power save” setting is. I’m glad you like what you use but the V Mount battery serves many purposes and is interchangeable with my other equipment that uses V Mount. I have a good voltage range, it’s not heavy or big in my bag, and it’s interchangeable with my other gear. It’s perfect for me and would last 4 days on set with me without a charge if the need should arise. It’s the perfect solution for my needs. Thanks for reaching out! Let’s go make some good recordings!
@@soundjustlikeapro Sounds good and glad everything worked out for you and you were able to pick up the Pro version too! It's a beast and it's replacing my F6 which is going to be my dedicated Ambisonics recorder now. I use the VMounts as well for my Aputure 600D and my gimbal but they are much heavier is all. Also, I think the field bag for the F8 is pretty decent and can hold all my talents receivers and battery and such. Glad you got your end sorted out and have fun and good luck to you!
I’m not sure about the F8n Pro but the F3 has a setting for the battery type and chemistry (lithium, nmh, alkaline) and optimizes its power use for the selected batteries. I would think that if the F3 has this setting, surely the F8n Pro does too.
Wow. I’m sorry for the delay. Thanks for reaching out! It recognizes the battery chemistry in the AA compartment. I run mine on the DC In through the Hiroshima connector and it doesn’t care about the chemistry there.
You said it was 'a little wiggly' just after the three minute mark and yet it appeared to you to be the same construction as the earlier version you owned. Can you expand on that a bit please. We often hear that later models of various makes are not as well built as the earlier versions. Thanks for the video, it's very useful.
Hey. Thanks for reaching out. The “wiggle” was the button covers over the 8 channel select buttons. They are a little loose. It was the same on the F8n and F8n Pro. I guess the phrase “They don’t make ‘em like they used to” doesn’t apply here since they both do it. I don’t know why but I had just never noticed it before on the F8n.
@@soundjustlikeapro Thanks for that. I've recently started using my Tascam DR-40 in four-channel mode but have found some problems which cause it to switch off in some circumstances so I'm looking around at other makes too. There's something called MixPre- which comes in various versions but this is more expensive than the F8n pro.
@@MaxEwen The Mix Pre is good too. I don't think it's any better but the "Sound Devices" name brand goes a long way to impress gear snobs. I've never used a DR-40 but I own a DR-70. It was actually the unit that was recording the sound in this video. It's a decent one also.
@@soundjustlikeapro I think Sound Devices has a well deserved reputation for quality, especially in its limiters. They really have no control over the arrogant brayings of their fanboys. Everything I have read about the Zoom F8n Pro and the Mixpre 3-6-8-10 series is that they are in most factors of equal sound quality and the choice between Zoom and MixPres is largely down to features, layout and workflow.

I want to ask as I was told that if I will work with a wireless mic system and the sound will clip at the transmitter side, 32bit float will not help as it will be too late, and it can only work if I have a mic connected directly to the zoom so is this correct ? . as you say you work with a wireless mic system
Thank you for reaching out! Yes. You were told correctly. A clean capture of a dirty signal is still a dirty sound. It would be no different than a clean capture of a distorted or overdriven electric guitar. You can’t pull distortion out of a track if it happens before it gets to the track. On wireless systems, I run the signal on the transmitter side as soft as possible. Like -12 or -18 and roll back the AF output of the receiver a little bit so the recorder gets a clean input. I hope that helps. Good luck out there!
@@soundjustlikeapro my thought is to deliver the 24 bit to the editor and have the 32 bit as a safety if they don’t want the 32 for some reason. Some people don’t like change.

I highly recommend still having AA batteries in the F8n! Just in case the external battery dies on you, or a cable fails.

Yup, if the signal has clipped anywhere earlier in the audio chain then 32bit can do nothing to recover what's lost.
Hi, can you record two different rates simultaneously? Thanks
Hey. Thanks for reaching out! It can record Waves at one rate and MP3’s simultaneously.
Thank you for your reply! Can you record two wav files, one at 24 bit and one at 32 bit float?
