  • A video on the best rugby team of all time. Honourable mentions go out to Victor Matfield, Jonny Wilkinson and David Campese all of whom are greats of the game and would definitely be on the bench.
If you enjoyed the video please like it and subscribe. It would help me out a lot.

Among the lists I also saw one for Coach. Each of the top countries have had great coaches but one stands out: (and I'm a Kiwi!) Carwyn James from Wales. He masterminded the 1971 Lions series victory in NZ, then the Llanethlie (sp) win over the All Blacks. The amazing thing that us Kiwis never understood was... why wasn't he appointed Wales Coach again? He forced us to revise how we played, leading to a long period of dominance of the game for the AB's.

The problem with trying to compare players from different eras is that the game has changed so much. The skill set and physical attributes just for a start are infinitely different for a number of reasons; amateur vs professional game, modern defensive structures, different laws such as lifting in the lineout, breakdown laws that now vastly favour the attacker. With all these things that have changed over the years the players of 20/30/40 years ago were playing a very different game.

JPR Williams, Gerald Davies, Tim Horan, Danny Gerber, Dan Carter, Gareth Edwards, Richie McCaw, Mervin Davies, Fergus Slattery, Martin Johnson, Willie John McBride, R.Lowe, Keith Woods, Taigh Furlong. As we all know, there are many different teams of equal quality but it’s good to think back to through all those great players.

Whoever compiled this team clearly never watched the greatest rugby player of all time - C.M.H. 'Mike' Gibson of Ireland.
He made Brian O'Driscoll look comparatively ordinary.
The most complete player, with electric pace, in open play the ability to fend, swerve and side step, unrivalled in defence, unmatched under the high ball, a visionary attacker, always delivered the unexpected. Ahead of his time, a bit like Dr.Who of the rugby field!
A combination of Brian O'Driscoll, Geordan Murphy and Simon Geoghegan rolled into one. Pure Magic!

If you are adding them by their ability within their respective times then Colin Meads would definitely be in the locks. If not then you really cant include anyone from before 2007 because they just arent as fit and strong as the modern blokes. Dane Coles would have been a magician at the 91 world cup.

I’d suggest Johnson and Eales as the two greatest World Cup 2nd rowers although that’s tough on Matfield, Thorne, Whetton, Hayden, and a swag of great modern players. But, if you put the WC aside, the great man Colin Meads has the mentioned. He was the pioneer of the fast mobile lock, and as much as I admire the considerable skills of a Johnson and particularly Eales, the sheer strength of Meads would have made him a handful for either of these two great modern players.
As for Zinny, great player though he was, he’s not even rated as the best number 8 in NZ rugby so I don’t see how you can make him your best of all time.

This list got a few very wrong.
Leonard. Just so many players better at that position, old school prop who brought literally nothing else to the game other than a scrum. Just no.
Dallaglio!?!?!?!? Literally nobody other than the most one eyed englishman would think he deserves to be here. He even got dropped by his own country for lack of form!
Any number of NZ, Australian and SA players comprehensively outplayed him when they were matched up.
You're seriously going to pick Dallaglio ahead of Toutai Kefu? Maybe go and watch some games where the played against each other. Dallaglio was notable for his absence while Kefu was almost single-handedly winning Australia games.
Short of that, Zinzan Brooke and Buck Shelford (most people's actual pick i'm sure) were just far, far better players.
Joost Van der Westhuizen is the greatest halfback in the game. Hands down.
And as good as Bryan Habana is (one of my favourite players) that spot is Campo's.

    Danie Gerber? Naas Botha?
You can debate many positions but not nr 1, Os du Randt. Jannie du Plessis said the 1st time he scrummed against Os it felt like he got pins and needles in his eyes.

    1. DuRandt
    2. Fitzpatrick
    3. Roncero
    4. Retallick (As a player, Johnson as a leader)
    5. Eales
    6. Hill (Didn't see enough of Jones as he was coming towards the end of his career)
    7. McCaw
    8. Parisse (Really wanted to put Scott Quinnell here)
    9. Joost
    10. Carter
    11. Campese
    12. Horan
    13. Sella
    14. Shane (Closest call of all so went with National bias. Lomu or any of the turn of the century NZ wingers could be here)
    15. Cullen (Again only caught the tail end of Blanco)
Now if you had asked my Nan who was more knowledgeable about rugby that anyone i've ever met (But insanely Bias) it's the Pontypool Front row, McBryde, Meads, Rives, David, Mervyn, Edwards, John, Gibson and Dawes centre, Gerald, JJ and JPR back 3 with Delme, John Taylor, Quinnell, Chico Hopkins, Bennett all unlucky to miss out

I have looked through many of the comments and there is no mention of Barry John. Dan Carter is a fine player but he never caused a country to change its whole rugby-playing ethos and approach. Barry John did that to New Zealand and it led to them becoming the rugby world's dominant force. No other player has done that and his retirement at 27 in 1972 was such a shame. He is the greatest ever 10.

I would add Brodie Retallick, Kieran Read and Aaron Smith to this list, Dalaligo was a hard brutal player but his skills were Average. Christian Cullen would run circles around Serge Blanco any day, I would also put Frenchman Abdelef Benazzi in at No.6. You can definitely see the bias from people from different countries/hemispheres but an interesting discussion/debate none the less, one that could probably go on forever! I suppose the only way to tell which player was the best ever in their position on this list, are the players who are not being abused, debated, discussed. For example no one here debates wether Jonah Lomu was the best ever No.11 therefore he must've been and was the best in his position ever!

    • @jasonwadsworth1160
      @jasonwadsworth1160 Рік тому

For me, very debatable about Joan lomu, others have said so too. He was a freak for his time and sheer size and power made him very hard to stop but what else could he do? Don't remember him for anything else.
