I never seen anything more beautifully built and more beautifully played by the same hands. That module bridge construction is truly next level, too. Outstanding!
As a luthier and guitarist I’ve seen a lot of builds in my time but this is something else. This has more akin to engineering than traditional builds. It’s absolutely brilliant. It’s modular design means you could customise it in so many different ways. Amazing.
You Said it "engineering" but as a mechanic that works on planes this guy does not have an engineering degree! He's too smart! Lol. No rework or redesign needed and it looks easy to work on! Lol 😆.

Kudos to you for the fusion of common sense and innovation. Great bass, very good playing. That is about as close as possible to an upright bass as a bass guitar could be made. Love the engineering, design and execution and tone. Great work!!!!
Superb concept, design and workmanship. As for the bass guitar sound it is just as superb and pleasing together with Andy's playing with the ensemble. It is very rewarding to watch the guitar being assembled meticulously then played with such great expertise.
This is a real luthier. Design, craftsmanship, attention to detail and a perfect set-up for the player. Congratulations, Andy. You really know what this is about!
Amazing build! The addition of a piezo under the body end of the fingerboard could enhance an upright tone. I accidentally discovered the benefit of placing a mic in front of a DI'd electric bass to blend in some string and finger noise.
Totally unreal. Some of the best work I've ever seen. Amazing. You put other fakers to shame. Your attention to detail puts you on another level. I wish I had your patience. Thanks for making one of the nicest basses I've ever seen in my entire life.
Oh my God! What a beautiful instrument! This is next level, master luthier. This would be so much easier to play on gigs than lugging the upright around.
Amazing work! You're so thoughtful about every step of its construction. I've been in pursuit of a similar goal of making a smaller version of a double bass, but I definitely haven't reached this level of craftsmanship.
The design is absolutely amazing and beautiful and it sounds great. Congratulation on being so creative and such a good wood (and metal) worker artist.

Not crazy about how the upper metal plate shoots straight instead of follows the curve of the top horn, but still a very nice piece and process. Also, fine playing and intonation.
Yes . Very interesting design and almost authentic sound. Congratulations on the successful completion of a great job! P.S. Curious to hear player feedback on the use of this bass?

I'm not sure if I understand the way the pickup works, because I'm only going off of visual cues, but is it inducing a current based on the movement of the bridge as a whole relative to a fixed point below it? I'm guessing that you'd have a magnet on the bottom face of the bridge, with the coils affixed to the backplate? Then the up and down movement from the strings would be transferred through the bridge, a bit like a Dobro/resonator guitar, emulating the way a soundboard would react? I might be completely wrong, but if that's what you're doing it's something I've never seen done before and it brings about some interesting possibilities.
I want exotic looking instruments to be an industry standard honestly . I go to a guitar shop and nothing impresses me I can take any of those instruments and get a good tone but they all look like they used bucket on ms paint
Amazing idea for the pickup. Even though we can't hear how it sounds perfectly in the video, it sounds pretty damn good. Does the carbon fibre plate influence the sound a lot? In that case you could maybe have different back plates to change between to get different tones out of the instrument. The instrument as a whole reminds me a bit of the old Ampeg AEB/AUB-1 scroll basses, but this one sounds so much better.
Thank you very much. I have a high quality sound file for you to listen to if you like. drive.google.com/drive/folders/1TJSKuLzN5g7P6mgesNsumfaS32IKedeA?usp=sharing

Amazing

Would you mind describing the design process at one point ?

I wonder how long all those screws will stay tight? Might want to apply to some lock tight on the threads at some point.
Your opinion is correct.
I too would like to apply Loctite.
But I don't use it because of the risk of the inserts falling out.
