The story of the Griqua people. The Griqua are a group who forms part of the Khoi people. Some Griqua are mixed and some are completely of Khoi descent.
I have always loved and admired the Griqua since i learnt about them in African history. The brave warriors of the mineral revolution era. I never knew where they ended up until i watched this video. Thank you so much for sharing.
Do you know what is also interesting the Griqua people are descendants from the Oorlam Afrikaner people. They consisted of mixed-race descendants from indigenous Khoikhoi and slaves from Madagascar, India, and Indonesia. Members of this mixed race are today sometimes called African Creole people or Creole Africans, as well as Coloureds. The Oorlam communities migrated from the Cape Colony north to Namaqualand. They settled places earlier occupied by the Nama
@@sergiosuker9902I don't think any Indians were brought to the Cape as slaves . Malaysian yes . We don't call coloureds creole in SA , not ever . The Khoi are the gene pool that the earliest Dutch settlers and slaves inter mixed with .
Nelson Mandela had a Griqua grandmother from East Griqua land , that is the kokstad and surrounding areas . The Griqua are often called the first rainbow nation .
It’s cool to learn about other types of Coloureds. All you ever hear about is Cape Coloureds as well as Coloured stereotypes. 😤
I wish we could do it from all over again we had our own land
