You're a great teacher! Thanks for the soup to nuts tutorial for us beginners! So many tutorials on youtube either go too fast or down rabbit trails that aren't needed to get started. You struck a great balance of simple, but not too simple.
I’ve had my iPad for a year and just realized I can use GarageBand to make practice backing tracks. Yeah! Excellent easy to follow instructions. Thank you
This is the best instructional for making backing tracks using GarageBand that I've seen. I don't play the ukulele but the piano - this will work for ANY instrument. Thank you for a superb video and please can you explore this subject further.
Sweet. I especially liked your bright squiggly arrow that showed where you were clicking next. You made it fun. Hopefully I can do it too. I will be using my iphone, so I guess I'll be playing with it.
Thank You so much mam. After a lot of struggle through many videos, it is your video finally actually helped me in understanding about what all I can do with the Garage Band app.
This is brilliant. I just purchased a bass uke so that my Tuesday Morning Blues jam session will have a bass sound. This is very informative. BTW, if anyone uses a macbook, the mac os version of GarageBand (also free) does include ukulele loops.
Ohhh wow glad Iv seen this I hadnt got a clue how to use this app..I would love to know how to play bass Uke along to the drum and guitar track ..Thanks Racheal
Your video on Garage Band easy to follow for old people like me. Though I had an I Pad I never used it. I practice on Yamaha keyboard. Could you please post few more videos on Garage Band. Am from Southern part of India. Thanks.
That was brilliant, i have garage band but never new how to use it , you are such a good teacher, thank you so much looking forward to more ukulele stuff.
Fascinating video i really enjoyed that Rachel; never seen "Garageband" before so a real eye opener for me and even my old brain followed your lesson ❤
Great video, yet again, Rachel. I'm doing some research on PC and Android alternatives to Garageband, and your information here will pertain to those easily.
Rachel, as always you know how to explain everything very clearly. I've looked at Garageband many times before, but thought it was kind of complicated. But this basic lesson has made me curious again how I can make backing tracks myself. Thanks for your clear explanation!
Ooh…thanks so much for this Rachel! It’s been on my iPad Pro for all these years & I hadn’t a clue what to do with it other than listen to some of the fantastic sounds available. I’m so looking forward to trying out what you’ve just shown us & being at some point in the future, quite ambitious enough to try & record tracks for a full song which I can then sing & play uke with. Loved it…thanks again! ❤
Rachel, that was great! I bought an iPad last year, primarily to store my songbooks and because it had Garage Band loaded - but I couldn't work out how to use it. The only other videos I found seemed to assume you were at Pete Waterman's level!! Now I can finally start to use it, thanks! Looking forward to more video from you on Garage Band.
Glad it was helpful Geoff and please if you ever have any questions, just ask. I will probably do a few more on Garageband because as you say, there seems to be a lack of basic lessons for it.
Wow!! With your explanation I record my first GarageBand backing track. I’m so excited about it …. I tried many times but never succeeded. Thank you so much 🌺🌺
Hello Rachel, thank you very much for this really helpful video. I hope you come with some more videos on backing tracks or how to use GB. I just play the uke a little bit and I am not a great musician so it really is difficult to figure out how to use things like GB in an effective way. Kind regards from Germany.
Thank you, Rachel. This was excellent. Do you even make backing tracks for particular songs? I was thinking say a simple (relatively) pop song with a bridge and a chorus.
Thanks Janet. I have made backing tracks for particular songs, recently I did a shortened version of Fly Me To The Moon for a video but I also did some more mass play alongs during covid. They tend not to be exact copies and it's difficult to do a video on them as I'd get issues with copyright. Having piano music helps with these but same principal as this vid, jyst getting the right chords really.
Great video Rachel, thank you! I haven’t used GarageBand since retiring 3 years ago from teaching high school classroom music , and your video reinforced everything I was familiar with using GB. Since taking up the Bass Ukulele, I have been having so much fun playing bass lines with my husband, who plays guitar. We’ve been playing along to various songs on UA-cam, and I was wondering if you might do a video on how to create a backing track in GB for a whole song, either with or without the vocals? Eg. we’ve been playing along to 'Something' by George Harrison and I’m thinking about how I could create a backing track in GB with rhythm, basic chords and the vocals played on keyboard. Thanks again for your wonderful resources🙂
Hi Jennifer, wonderful that you are getting back into Garageband. It's a great suggection about a full song backing track but I suspect I might bump into some copyright issues but I will certainly try and do some more general ones.
@@UkuleleWales Yes, of course copyright issues would be a concern. General ones would be great😊 thank you Rachel for the wonderful resources that you make available for all of us.
Yes, if you export it won’t loop but depending on your media player, many of those have an option for looping the file - definitely worth looking at the settings. Eg. VLC, Windows media player. Hope that helps.
Great question. As far as I am aware there isn’t an app as good as GarageBand but an app we use in school a lot, a bit more basic than GarageBand but very useable is BandLab. Hope that helps. If I do come across a better Android one I’ll make a video. 👍
I don't have any Apple devices, but perhaps it would be worth it to get an iPad and keep my Android phone and Windows pc's. Or maybe there is a similar app that runs on Android tablets and phones.
Hi Rick, I haven’t found anything quite as good as GarageBand on Android but worth looking a BandLab. It is more basic but does many of the things GarageBand does. 👍
@@UkuleleWales I'm not even sure that Garageband has the pattern track option. I'm a Logic Pro user and I'm trying to use my iPad Pro as a physical instrument using the synths etc in Garageband. A randomiseable pattern track as is Logic woud be just the thing but I don't see this option.

Does it have songs like backing tracks that you can play with it
It has loops built in which makes making backing tracks quite easy, it doesn't have complete backing tracks built it in but you can make your own.
Thanks, that's very interesting! Can anyone recommend a similar app for android?
Hi, generally Garageband on Apple really is the best but it might be worth looking at BandLab app for Android. A bit more basic but still very good.
I have an android tablet. Is there an android equivalent of garage band?
I, too, would really like to know if there’s an Android equivalent.

Hi Bob, I started using Apple devices because of work but for mucis, they really are incredible and especially as they all work seamlessly.
Are WAVE files too large to Email to myself? Why is MP3 to way to go?
Yes, WAV files do tend to be bigger but you can send WAV files if your email provider allows enough space.
❤
Is there a version for Android users?
Hi Rick, I haven’t found anything quite as good as GarageBand on Android but worth looking a BandLab. It is more basic but does many of the things GarageBand does. 👍
