Unfortunately I am on the other side of that coin, I find most with out cords, vacuum and basically anything. People stopped free piles because over eager individuals, but I learned, if you see something, it never hurts to be polite and ask, 99% of the time they have tons more , givem a card and the calls will flow......🎉 I enjoy your vids man, people think I have company in my shop because you sound , well like any up north guy 😂
Color monitors and especially tv sets can hold a deadly charge on that wire to the tube! Attach a wire to the chassis and tape the other end to a long stick and short out the tube. Most have a dropping resistor but some don't and the arc you draw will get your attention. The tube itself can build a charge sitting by itself in dry weather if left unshorted. You can disarm a tube for good by breaking the little tit found in the middle of the plug on the back of the tube. No vacuum, no danger... Black and whites hold a much lower voltage and probably won't kill you.
When I first started I thought it was a good idea to acquire a bunch of free TV's from marketplace and get this copper out. Ended up being way too much stuff to throw away. A few good snibbits in there.
When you live in a place that you find them on the street....... the market isnt there with some exceptions. Yes they are novelties at best, i saved a few but there is a fine line between scrappin and hordin........ and if the tv or monitors are old enough to be sittin in the rain for a week....... they dont hold a charge....... with that. I do use a volt meter and unless i plug them in to check , i haven't come across a charge, done about 40 give or take .......
OMG...dont do this!!!...atleast not the way this guys did....CRT will hold a large charge that CAN kill you....discharge the CRT tube and caps FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I never bother with these, since my scrapyard no longer takes CRTs--I just cut the cord off (same with most vacuums and dehumidifiers)
I hear you... the ability to sell your stuff makes us all do things different. Thanks for watching.

I did 1000's of them back in the day, a good friend of mine owned a Computer Repair shop.
@@thescrapmeister Oh wow. I can't imagine! Was he able to dispose of the "waste" after you were done? That's a lot of tubes and plastic.

I hear ya, I don't have much room so I have to pick and choose, Thanks for watching!
Have you ever thought about getting a wire stripper? I have a friend that got one and he gets a lot more money just for the wire.
I do have one back in the corner... I just don't get a lot of strippable wire. Thanks for checking in my friend!

Myself I don't bother, cord candy and that's it...
Yes, they make a lot of junk.
If they work sell them to the retro gamers. they pay top dollar for crt tvs.
I hear you... I just don't have the space to store stuff until it sells :-) Thanks for watching.
Dude it took you 20 minutes to get 35 cents worth of copper out of that thing was it really worth all that damn effort
Thanks for watching!
If it works, its worth an easy 50 bucks. But at least ya got 3 dollars worth of scrap ! Lol
Yes, if I had the room & time to do that. Thanks for watching.
