I'm a beginner on the SPD- SX and this video was absolutely on point for me to apply at a gig.
Thanks so much for the feedback! That was my goal making this, so glad to hear it helped. If you have any other questions, let me know.
Would have been better if you showed spd sx screen thanks!🥁
Thanks for the feedback!
Agreed! .. as a beginner, it would've been more informative to watch how you actually chopped the wave and saved it on the spd sx screen! It's one of the most important parts of a good sample .. and you could've shown us a small part of the procedure so we could visually see it .... then sped up the rest! 😕
Great work on these videos! Super helpful
Thank you sir!
Nice Video!
now I can use my spd sx to sample
Thanks!
Very good video! I’ll get my roland spd this week and looking for material like this.
Thanks!
Very Informative. Thanks!
Thanks!
This video was very useful thank you. I just recently switch from strike multipad to an spd-sx. My alesis pad started malfunctioning and freezing at startup/shut down. Unfortunately the warranty had just run out by a month, with costs of shipping, hardware repair and approximately 9-12 week turn around time I sold SMP for 250$. I found a fantastic deal on a used 2 GB Roland spd-sx and bought it. The Roland and Alesis work flows are similar but do have some differences. Those differences definitely threw me off. I really like my new Roland pad however I definitely miss some features from the Alesis. The large color screen and endless rotary encoder knobs on SMP made editing samples on the unit much easier imo. I’m considering buying Serato sample program to do all my sample chops and editing on my computer instead and then transfer those to spd-sx.
Thanks for the comment! Sorry to hear about the Alesis. I've also heard some mixed reviews about Alesis quality - mostly on their e-kits.
HUGE HELP!!!!! THANK YOU!!!! 😁🤙🏼
Thanks so much! Let me know if you have questions on the SPD-SX or electric drums!
I’m new with the device.. You needed to show the screen so we can see what to click on
Great really helpful
Thanks!
Thank you!!
No problem!
I would like to see how you use this sample of course, play it!!!
Thanks!
in my Spd sx no signal from phone?. how you fix it?≥ thanks
Could you tell me a little more about how you have it connected? What cables are you using to get from your phone to the sampling pad?
How to roland spd20 octapad tone backup in mobile or computer
I'm trying to record a sample to a specific pad but it won't record because it shows wave #363 assigned to that pad but wave 363 is a "no wave", there's nothing assigned to that wave. How do I clear that pad so I can assign it a new wave?
Go to the kit that you're attempting to record to. Then Menu button -> Pad. In the top right corner, it'll indicate which pad is selected. Default will be "Pad 1" which is the top left pad. Use the left and right arrow to swipe between pads. When you've selected the pad you're trying to assign a new wav to, you can either highlight "Wave" (under Kit Pad) and press the "minus" button until it says "No Assigned". You can also press the "Quick" button -> Pad Init. This will Initialize (aka reset) the pad to it's default settings.
Let me know if that works!
Seeing how you don't respond to comments, I'm not sure I want to ask my wisdom question... If you're sampling from your PC is it best to use a midi cable, or a stereo/mono cable or otherwise??
Anyway, thanks for the viddy, it was extremely helpful!!!
Hello! Sorry for the delay. It depends on the application. In this video, since I was sampling a song from my tablet, stereo/mono was the way to go. I would probably use MIDI if I was sending data from the SPD-SX to my laptop/Ableton. Glad you enjoyed the video!
How long can it record for. I'm looking at it for playing guitar and bass on it. And want to know if it will record for like 3 minutes?
So it can hold 360 minutes mono/180 stereo which can be expanded with external storage - ie a flash drive. I'm not certain about how long an individual file can be but it's certainly longer than 3 minutes. My band uses backing tracks longer than 3 minutes.

is your cable from tablet to spd sx mono or stereo
I was outputting mono from the tablet but you can do stereo if you have the correct cable. The SPD-SX supports stereo input and output.
Will that work for mpc beats daw
So I haven't specifically used MPC Beats daw but I think you should be able to send MIDI from the SPD-SX. The SPD-SX has a MIDI out so you would just need to snag a MIDI to USB or something similar.
Can I connect hihat pedal?
So yes and no - you can connect a footswitch which can be used to cycle between different kits and a few other things. If you're trying to use a hi hat pedal to create open and closed hit hat effects you can't really do that
What screen are you using to edit the start and end of the sample?
I could not find the screen that expands the sample. Were you using your computer or the spdsx?
@@tlovesdrummin Hi! I was using the screen on the SPD-SX to edit the sample. You can either edit the sample immediately after sampling (I talk about this ~2 min) or after the sample is saved. To edit after the sample is saved, go to Menu -> Pad-> Find the file you want to edit -> Quick -> scroll down to "Wave Start/End". Hope it helps. Feel free to lmk if you have other questions!
