Last couple of minutes of this get super real and terrifying. It's actually really uncomfortable because most of the rest of this album has a kinda "carefree" weirdness. This song is proper FUCKED and I love it.

This is arguably one of their darkest songs. And I love it for that!
Oh there’s no argument to be made. Even the lyrics alone are horrifying. The creeping dread of feeling like you’re nothing, meaningless without that which allows you to have your meaning, as the moon would be without the sun. And then, to make everything worse, it seems like the narrator embraces his nihilistic fate despite trying so hard earlier in the track to convince himself that he is something without that “other.” It’s very Lovecraftian in the type of horror and dread it conveys, and the madness seems to build to a fever pitch towards the end. You could probably write a whole essay about this one honestly
The "shines shakes and laughs..." lines toward the end are basically straight from an HP Lovecraft story, "Polaris."
It's only a few pages long and it's freely available in many different forms on "the internet."

For those of you who have awoken from the nightmare: Jon Mess is telling you that the moon is a massive projector defining our reality. If anyone finds the last couple of minutes deeply unsettling, it’s by design. He’s convinced to live the lie since he made ‘the deal’. This song is a painful confession.
Brandon Mickley I believe Jon Mess is a closet conspiracy theorist, and his lyrics, especially in secret band, bear this implication. They seem incoherent, but they make more sense when you understand the context. His writing style hides it and spares him the criticism. There’s a song called rabbit hole, for instance. Moon is a song about the moon as a reflection of the earth/him-meaning there is no moon, we’re in a simulation, and he’s just playing his part. Jon writes about this stuff and we all sit here headbanging to these songs without fully comprehending their meaning. If you feel like being entertained about that notion, check it out and it’ll (possibly) make sense in regard to his writing.

Yeah, im getting a lot of "illuminati" feels of the lyrics. Cloned bodies, mk ultra mind control (or demonic possession), lies hidden underneath (transpocalypse), a single eye winking (all seeing eye), and of course the moon, which people still swear we landed on. Where are the tapes, nasa? A kickass song anyhow.
