The Calgary Police Service, AB, Canada: Reimagining Policing

The Calgary Police Service is a leader in progressive policing in Canada. They always striving for new and innovative ways to better serve their citizens. Historically they’ve been involved in building strong relationships with the community. The CPS Diversity Team was established 44 years ago in 1979 with an Indigenous Relations Officer. Its mandate is to promote understanding and communication between the CPS and diverse communities within the city. Since that time, maintaining connections with community and elders, and building relationships through grassroots initiatives is at the core of where they see themselves within the community. They have been honoured to incorporate traditional Indigenous practices, under the supervision and consultation of local elders, into the traditions of the Service, as they continue on the shared path of truth and reconciliation.
