This is TEM7A, shunting, 8-axle, with an engine capacity of 2000 horsepower, power in hours 1450 kW, And it was also exported to America, but then it was bought back.
There are more locomotives built with this axle configuration. In the US the GE U50 (which was actual an Bo-Bo+Bo-Bo, same as the TEM7, because their four axle bogies are not rigid, but 2 Bo bogies are connected by a secondary structure, which is suspended to the loco body) The DD35 and DD40 had rigid Do bogies, which must have been rail killers. The suspension on the TEM7 seems a pivot less type with flexicoil springs to me. The Russians had built more 8 axle loco's, like the EP200 prototype.

the emd DD40AX has twice the weight the reason so the traction comes in to play because some rails in russian rails get down to 50 pound rail you need something to spread all that weight the dd 40 had the 4 axle trucks to spread the weight because a 3 axle truck couldent handle it at the time
its cool.. i found out tht info about them already :-) i've also found out tht no one make them in any scale yet which kinda sucks but its ok i'll make one..thanks again
The DD35 or DD40 are not double the weight, as they weigh at 236 metric tons, against 180 fot the TEM7. Axle load for the DD40 is also a little less than 30 tons against 22.5 tons for the TEM7 2000 h.p. doesn't sound a lot, but keep in mind that this is a shunting loco, and with almost 11500 lbs tractive effort it's an absolute Russian beast.
yes thts true...due to the fact its 98ft and has 2 engines in it and way more traction was attatain..actally the DD35 had the same wheel arrangement also..but yes with lighter rails and a heavy engine u need to spread out the weight more axles are required..the SDL39 did tht for the MILW road but i bet its no were near the weight of the TEM7a..but how much HP does the TEM7a make and whats the weight?.i am curious because I am planing to make one in HO scale soon although it'll be a challenge :-)
indeed the same wheel arrangement was used on the DD40AX because it was soo long an heavy..whats the hp power and the weight this unit?...also is it just used for switching or other job's like pulling frieght?

I don't know if I agree with this, but it is the most powerful shunting locomotive, but not the most powerful mainline.
